    I have worked in the auto industry for decades. After I left for military, I no longer worked for dealers, but part time worked at stereo shop. We have done this on many cars. But your kit seems way better than the stuff our customers had us use. I am not so much into the looks stuff with cars, maybe some carbon trim and outside spoilers etc.. But for how much you spent on materials, the cost is low for this feature. You did a good job buddy! I wouldn't do this to my cars, I make them fast, and I make them all performance oriented. But for show car folks this is pretty cool. Did you know that Rolls Royce charges $12,000 for this feature in their cars? I thought you'd appreciate that... Good work, I bet the wife and kiddos love it.

The fibers will get bent, broken, become loose eventually and it will just become a mess. But... if anyone does try it out and succeeds without making the roof leak on them or whatever... please share the info with the group! We’re all here to learn from each other

    • @ReynaldoVelasquez
      @ReynaldoVelasquez  Před 4 lety +4

      Oswaldo Mancilla in the video I show how I ran it, basically the light engine is just help in the trunk in a little netting that came with the car to store the lugnuts and assorted things

  • @JayyDoodle
    @JayyDoodle Před 4 lety +27

    Just got finished installing this in my 2016 Sonata and this video helped me out a ton, so thanks a bunch! I bought pretty much everything on your tool list. The gorilla glue worked like a charm, and the trim removal replacement kit came in handy for a few retainer clips that I broke while removing the pillars.
    I ran into the same issue of not being able to get my headliner out of the car so I also had to work inside, incredibly tedious work! I ended up routing the cable up the B pillar like you considered doing, as in my car you are unable to reach the trunk from anywhere in the passenger compartment.
    I'll add a bit of advice for anyone that may be watching this video - DON'T buy the light kit with multiple sizes! Especially if you have a light colored roof like my own (tan). The largest of the strands left pretty noticeable holes in my headliner, much larger than I anticipated. It looks pretty awful during the day, though at night you can't tell the difference. I'm considering going back in and wrapping my headliner in black like others have done and then pushing the strands through the new fabric - we'll see

    • @ReynaldoVelasquez
      @ReynaldoVelasquez  Před 4 lety +1

      JayyDoodle awesome! I’m glad i was able to help out a bit. I wish I had a second camera guy just for recording. Did you get to document your process? Upload a video I would love to check it out. I got all the same size strands because it came with MORE. And one of my buddies told me with the twinkle effect, some will naturally look bigger and brighter than the others. So for me there really was no need to go bigger. But that’s a great tip, thanks for sharing about the hole sizes. How long would you say it took you to complete with breaks included? Make sure to give us an update.

    This video was very helpful! I live in a very hot area and I was wondering if the fiber optic pieces would be more prone to melt or conduct heat. Have you had any issue with this? The only reason I ask this, is you mentioned not to use hot glue because they could melt. Wouldn’t another source of heat do the same thing?

    • @chadjay828
      @chadjay828 Před 3 lety

      No you should be good they are highly durable and the only thing with the hot glue gun as you cannot touch the metal tip of the hot glue gun onto the fiber optic or then it will mess it up but as far as The normal every day heat from outside will not affect the fiber optics I noticed in the video he said it was 100° outside and his Starlite system was still working without a problem not just that but at night the temperature should drop so it should not affect the starlight system

      @ReynaldoVelasquez  Před 4 lety +6

      SportsDomination hey dude, lol I meant to press reply and accidentally removed your reply. But let me see if I can remember your questions:
      1) will your headliner fit the projector (light engine) on my video I show how I ran the fiber optics into the trunk and store the light engine in the trunk. I did this because of its large size and also because if the light engine ever goes out you can buy a new one a small swap it out without having to drop the entire headliner again. There are others who have purchased a cheaper $30-$60 smaller light engine and packed it into the headliner but those are cheap and don’t twinkle. And some have gone out... probably due to defects, and guess what... now they need to drop the entire headliner again. What a pain.
      2) how does it have power? The light engine box came with two plugs that power it. An AC adapter for a wall outlet and a lighter plug for a car. I just used the car lighter plug and ran it between the split foldable rear seats into the backseat car lighter. It powers the lights when I turn on my car.

      Matt Miller you should look up some videos on doing wiring. I suppose you could, but obviously look at what other videos say to do. Possibly use a relay and definitely insert a fuse between the battery and the the light engine. But yes I’m sure it would work. I’m not an electrical genius though. Haha so look up wiring led under glow kits etc on CZcams to get the correct advice. And when you do it... make sure to share it with us too

    • @ReynaldoVelasquez
      @ReynaldoVelasquez  Před 4 lety +14

      Skyelar Brennan I answer that question in my FAQ section towards the end. Details are in the description. But no it’s not obvious at all. No one will see it unless their car is lower than your car. They would need to be low enough to be able to look up at your ceiling. Plus the roofs of cars are usually Concaved so it’s even harder to see. If you turn the brightness all the way up or even mid range, people may be able to see your face changing colors or shining and then dimming as the stars twinkle. But that’s about it. And it’s harder to tell if you have window tint. Cops don’t care at all. I’ve turned the lights on and stood outside... nobody will know you have them, it’s like a surprise when they step into your car.
