I choked up when he said Ed Leffler. For anyone that's doesn't know Ed was the man. A good man and a peacemaker. After Ed died Van Halen fell apart. Ed was a special guy. She was older but would roll with Eddie and do coke with him just to be around him and be his friend. Ed lived a great life until the end. He found out he was terminal like a month before he died. I'm sure that those boys hard. Hey Ed in real life if you knew him if you knew anyway that knew him he was great great man. The fact they mentioned it like that and they mentioned to a bunch of times before is awesome. Brought a chair to my eyes to hear that. It was great and now Eddie is great. They probably up in heaven just haven't laughed maybe a couple cigarettes and some coke LOL they just having a good time. Yeah Ed leffler is like the unsung hero of Van Halen. He's unsung hero a lot of people he's a great agent not going to get too much into that and why I know that but I'll just say that it was awesome Ed leffler what a good man

I think with Van Halen, and this is when they were with David Lee Roth by the way, that the guitar tone had a Heavy Metal sound but the song structures were more hard rock based...so in a way there classified as hard rock and heavy metal but it shouldn't matter anyway, just as long it sounds good and the songs are good.

VH and GnR were both heavier than Black Sabbath for example and they are considered heavy metal. Sure when normal human beings think of Van Halen they think of songs like Jump or why can't this be love. I think of songs like Unchained, mean street, ain't talkin bout love, romeo delight etc. they got some heavy songs. Not Doom metal heavy but heavy at that time.
But if you gotta put them in specific groups =VH= is hard rock and GnR is more glam.

VH is hair metal, it is right between Rock and Heavy Metal. But they did have some heavy metal tracks. People tend to confuse Death/Black Metal and Heavy Metal, those are two different Genres.

The category was for best heavy metal/hard rock album. The two genres were lumped together back then. Don't see y people need to continously comment VH ain't metal. Sure they're not metal but they're definitely hard rock so they qualify. As for wether they should have won, that is a whole different argument. I like all three albums (the only VH album witth Sammy that i like) and all three have their strengths and weaknesses. In fact I would have preferred Countdown to Extinction or Slave to the Grind over these three.
Judgement Day is 100% a heavy metal song in my book, so this album qualifies either way.

There hard rock, which alot of the hard rock bands get thrown into the heavy metal class, especially Van Halen, ACDC, GNR, and Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin, which are all hard rock bands
I hold Van Halen as one of my favorite bands. I like both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar but how can F.U.C.K. win over the monster albums that is "Metallica - The Black Album" and "Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illiusion 1" ?. F.U.C.K, is a decent album but has not made close of an inpact as the other two albums. Fun for Van Halen.. But if the same choice would been made today, there is no chance Van Halen would have won. Not against those two albums!
The album had Right Now which won them a Grammy, poundcake , top of the world dream is over all hit #1 on rock radio and also judgement day which was heavier than the black album and illusion

Two decades later if you think Van Halen's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (FUCK) won the prize over Metallica's black album it seems very strange, black album is just ridiculously good and today it wouldn't even be put in the same competition. FUCK isn't Van Halens best album, good album but nowhere near as good as Metallica.
THREE decades later now I still like Carnal Knowledge; actually like it more than I did then (which wasn't that much tbh). Black album I stopped listening to, 2-3 years later after release.
