I vividly remember watching this live as a 10 yo and being mad that “the Temps” weren’t there live to accept the award. They were arguably America’s #1 group at the time

@@daffyduckfan4478 You have to remember that there weren’t any music videos at that time, The only way you saw your favorite R&B groups were award shows.and occasionally a talk show. Back then you listened to the radio a lot just to hear new music. Award shows were very popular then because you could see your favorite artists live

This was the award that Otis says stopped their song "Heavenly" being a hit. The man who accepted the award only credited Dick Clark and not the radio disc jockeys that were pushing Tempts records. The jocks punished them by ignoring their next couple of releases.
Yep. I think "Heavenly" and "You got my soul on fire" were both cooled off because of Abner's snub. Both hit #8 on the R&B charts, but we're 43 and 74 on Pop.
This is when The Temptations popularity started to dwindle, because the guy accepting didn’t thank the disc jockeys.

Donny went from famous to a life long stable marriage, good family, and awesome stable career. Donny loved Michael and always spoke good of him, even today he said his intentions were always good, but good ole hollywood/entertainment industry took advantage of him. I am sure Michael is singing his heart out in heaven, and heaven is better for it.
