It is still astounding, though, that apparently even with the talent of Jim Carrey it is necessary to start out with something the audience already knows. His impersonation skills are from another planet but still it's tapping into the fame of others, imitating the unique features of other persons. It's like an unknown band that has to play cover songs until finally someone notices that they can play well until they can play their own songs. And I think that says more about us, the audience, than about the artists or the industry.

It is almost like Jim's entire career was one big Max Headroom impression... but, he did kinda do it better than Frewer, to be fair. But, there is a reason The Mask, a total rip off Max Headroom was Jim's first big break. Max Headroom STILL polls high with audience surveys. But Frewer made it too much of, and too accurate, a social commentary for Hollywood to embrace him. But what he created was such a success Hollywood had to figure out how to take it from him and make it their own. Max headroom was the most successful show canceled at the time. I've never seen this performance before. This is why Jim is so great! I've seen his Clint Eastwood before, but not a lot of these. His Kermit and Miss Piggy are priceless. I'd sure love to see him do stand up again.

He even made Ryan Gosling at the end! The expressions on his face are the best.
