As an African football lover and follower, this was the golden generation of Nigerian 🇳🇬 football since 1990 to 2023. They could put another starting 11 and still win the AFCON. 🔥🔥🔥💖💖

The last 15mins really was Zambia's. They came back with so much steam. Kalusha's strike would surely release tears in the eyes of many. The support from the crowd got many Nigerians uncomfortable. An equaliser would have turned the stadium upside down. A great match.

I remember this match. Watched it on black and white tv sitting on the floor of a parked hotel reception area in Lagos. I was 14 then. The only time my dad would come with us cos we had no light and no petrol for the generator at home. Sonwe haf to find somewhere anyhow. We were all sweating. The whole place went upside down after the final whistle. Respect to the Zambian team though. I remember being afraid that they could score an equalizer in the dying minute and win on pens everytime they crossed into the box. Great match.

I see Nigeria playing as a team and not a separate entity, unlike this day every player want to shine, we need a good finisher.... I hope the new breed of players will learn from them

@@atjjr he was a special player. I think if the departed players had been there, the odds would have been even. They were good.

Okocha's replacement Nduka Ugbade would have made a record of first man to play in all FIFA age grade tournament if he made the USA World Cup 1994. As a youth player, fresh from St. Finbarrs College Akoka-Lagos, Ugbade was captain of the Nigeria U-16 male soccer team that won the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship (later referred to as JVC/FIFA at the following edition after which it metamorphosed to its current name and status -Coca-Cola/FIFA U-17 WC). The event was held in China and brought Ugbade into prominence after Jonathan Akpoborie(5min) and Victor Igbinoba (80+min)scored unreplied goals for Nigeria against West Germany, securing what was Nigeria's and Africa's first major win in football on the global stage.
