    • @2010DDB
      @2010DDB Před 9 lety +5

      Gospicnic You should know that during Nowadays, 5 countries from Africa days FIFA only allowed 2 countries from Africa to enter the World Cup.Even a good team had a chance of not qualifying. Secondly FIFA now uses Africa Nations Cup quaslifier as World Cup qualifiers unlike back then , it was seperate, so Fabisch and players had more on their plate. Because of that, at team could be knocked out of the qualifiers if it looses 2 games. I feel that Fabisch elevated the team more than any other, if you do not look at the silverware.

    Gospicnic, I can answer that, simply because the warriors where not a team. Let me first say I was in Zimbabwe when Energy Murambadoro was signed by Caps, and I started to love caps because I just couldn't get enough of his acrobatic saves. To me he is the big part as to why warriors made Tunisia 2004 because of the blinder he had in Mali when warriors drew 0-0 over there, usually for the warriors this game was the deal breaker. Which brings me to my point.
    This team was propaganda. There was a sever drought in Zimbabwe at the time and so the media marketed fabish (because of what he had done with Malawi). This wasn't fabish's team, Sunday Chidzambwa and company were picking and Id-ing players for this team. If you look at this team there is no style or recognisable positions or formation execpt the guy who was right back. The reason being, camp times where short yet players where coming from highlanders, dynamos, caps and other clubs, no real brand here. If you look at the Bafana they have more skill, especially touch, they have a recognisable formation and system, such elements are crucial for sustained success in this sport. However warriors have some familiar compos in the last third that is why they scored plenty in this game against a budding Bafana still affected by apartheid.
    Further evidence, this team didn't make the journey because of Kalusha's header the next year against a resurgent Zambian team. Deal breaker failed. Now there are lot of pple saying this was the team, no, if anything they were serial failures. Because Cameroon lost to them but in the deal breaking game they romped the warriors to the tune of 6-0 in Yaonde, where everything fell apart (fabish spanked some boys in the dressing room, got fired, shonayi got a serious knee injury I'm sure there were red cards involved) all against a new cameroon team with fresh faces like rigobert song , raymond Kalla, late vivien foe, mboma, these players would later dominate 7 yrs later from 93. I woud say the warriors played power houses at their weaker periods i.e Cameroon was gone by 1992 ANC because that generation dominated in the 80s, went on rebuild as of 1992-1999= 2000 ANC triumph against super eagles in their back yard, never mind a brilliant Okocha effort to level up the final. So they got beat by warriors in 1992-3. This Bafana team was newly formed in 1992. You can tell that while they got team cohersion there still isn't sound understanding of each other. However four years later they had won the ANC. in 1998 mad e the world cup an also made the ANC final losing to Egypt in one of the empiest ANC finals if no the emptiest , there was noone in the stands. Yet warriors beat South Africa 96, Egypt98, Cameroon 2000. So you can see that this team was about how the media painted them to the undescening povo in Zim there.
    For the record I am basing my analysis on facts and records. I would say the best warriors team was in the 80s because those were men with skill like late joel shambo ( I've read that he was master dribbler) I would say getting education is the best thing.

      The 6-0 bit is incorrect but I do agree that watching this team play against sa highlighted a very poorly organised team defence and midfield wise and SA played the better football. It was a lot of kick and rush football from Zimbabwe and we were lucky to have a little genius playing upfront. The dream team did make us dream as a nation but I think they lacked the necessary quality and experience to go that extra step.
