  • Do you have anxiety about being successful? You're not alone.
    When things start to happen for you and you're on a roll in your life, it can be easy to feel like time is passing us by without you realizing it.
    That sense of urgency can shoot your emotions straight into the future, where anxiety lives. I’ve come to understand that the warp speed and thoughts about the future can be controlled, and in this video, I share the strategies I use to ground myself and slow. life. down.
    This was a great question from a private event with alumni of my Power of You course. It's a big concept that I think so many of us can relate to. Remember, you're in charge and you control the pace!

    This is so true! I just published my first novel and I’m 57. Some super cool opportunities have come up as a result, and I’ve suddenly felt regret that I didn’t do this sooner...but it’s ok. “Jump on board and go for it” is my new motto, along with the 5 second rule of course, Thanks Mel...that “stupid” rule (as you say) changed my way of thinking!

      Hi TeriGigi, Congratulations on publishing your novel. I'm 55 and I just published my first novel last month, and it's a great feeling. And I've been surprised at how happy and confident I feel talking about my novel, compared with other things (like my business) - I was on the radio yesterday live, and when I listened to the recording I sound so positive and enthusiastic. Like you, I'm questioning why I didn't do it sooner, but I'm glad I haven't put it off any longer! What is your novel called TeriGigi - I'd like to buy a copy? I want to support other 50+ first time authors!

    • @TeriGigi
      @TeriGigi Před 6 lety +4

      Congratulations on your first novel! Mine is called Marie Antoinette and The Hidden Door of Versailles. What is your title? That is so great that you got a radio interview! I was interviewed on an author's You Tube channel if you want to check it out. The channel is The Daily Connoisseur and it's called "TeriGigi + Jennifer L. Scott Interview."
      I know what you mean...I can be so confident talking about my book because I believe in it. But then my inner voice tells me to shut up...I've learned to ignore my inner critic...it's more fun that way! 💜

    • @deborahoxberry4939
      @deborahoxberry4939 Před 6 lety +4

      Hi Teri, your book sounds fantastic. I've just downloaded it on Kindle and will leave a review once I've read it. And I've just watched your online chat with Jennifer L Scott, that was so good. I'm excited for you writing your next book too - you sound so hyped and excited about it. It's just great! Yes, I'm learning to ignore my inner critic too - after all, some people will like our books and some won't, but as long as we like them, that's all that matters (or at least that's what I think). Although it is nice when other people enjoy them too! I was really interested to see you have a CZcams channel too, I watched a couple of your videos. I've been mulling over the idea of setting up a channel for book reviews, new authors etc. I planned on calling it 'Scribbling Saturdays' - I might just go for it. Like you, I'd rather just talk than have to write blog posts (I write bids and tenders for a living so don't need anything else to write!) This is a link to my radio interview: soundcloud.com/bishopfm/deborah-oxberry - it was on our local radio station, I'm in the UK near Durham. My novel is called 'Hurt and Revenge'. It must be great to relive your teenage years in your new book. A friend of mine, Rosemary Blake, is writing a series of books about strong women, also set in the 70s. Her first novella is 'The Boatman's Daughter' and she's nearly ready to publish the second one in the series, Brioche. Best of luck with your books, and I'll post a review once I've read it - can't wait! Best wishes, Deborah

    I think the reason for it is that we compare ourselves with others on our age without knowing exactly what's going on the background and the social media makes things even worse, highlighting only the successful people without showing 90% that fail and the failures of the successful ones. Be gentle to yourself. Give your best and keep going and know that you are trying.

I have a passion for writing/singing and producing music. I'm left my job to live with my parents and now I'm trying to get this music thing off the ground. It's really hard because I don't have anyone who can help me in that business, so I'm doubting my decision all the time. My friends are starting to buy houses, settle, start a family... This video made me 5-4-3-2-1 and put down in here the question I am struggling to find an answer to. How do I know if I'm tired or overworked? Or depressed? Or just being lazy and should 5-4-3-2-1 and go back to work? It all looks the same: lying down and wathing youtube or reading books, or just sleeping.

But it’s also the reason why I can’t sleep. Even when I try to close my eyes my mind starts racing and I start thinking about all the things I wanna achieve before I die. Sometimes I start doubting myself. Sometimes I get disappointed at myself when I look at others around me succeeding. I’m 20 and I feel like time is running out, Idk why I’ve been feeling like this. I’m literally at work right now and somethin made me wanna search up “why do I feel like time is running out?” I’m just confused. Meditation helps with that 5 second rule. When I started meditating I realized that I have other options not just the first one that pops into my head. One example is when I feel anxious. I calm down realize it’s going to pass and I don’t have to become anxious. I can feel it but I don’t have to become it. And I can make that feeling as distant as I want it to be. As long as you don’t ignore the feeling.

    I would like to just point out that another version of 5-second rule is 3-second rule which was invented by PUA Industry way back which explained the same thing. Other than that , great video.

    ... and meditation/practicing stillness is like the bridge of the gap.. it’s like the GodGap I call it and the more we meditate the bigger the gap becomes ie the bigger our state of stillness becomes and in that state of being we begin to understand the ‘momentum’ which is life. We understand how we are all just momentum - and when we’re ‘in life’ practicing our state and we go back n forth in and out of it; into life then something happens and we’re all of a sudden pissed off and have to come back to our state (5,4,3,2,1) breathe and in the remembrance of it, we go back to our ‘state’ - slow it down.. in this sense we start to realise that this is all there is, we live, we die and that’s it. At that realisation we start to shit ourselves thinking we’re never gonna do all we want to do and we’ve wasted so much time! So that momentum then starts to push us to the ‘fuck it’ stage and we just head on into ALL the stuff we wanna do. We realise we are way more powerful than our mind, we are not our mind or our emotions we are way bigger than that.. Mel you’re awesome can we do a podcast?! ☺️

    That 5 second gap for me also means on opposite sides: "lizard brain" like Seth Godin explains and on the other side: "infinite amouts of peace in the present moment" its the ying and yang of bending reality.

    This is not true you're called to do several things throughout the years and maybe the quiet was Your growth time. Maybe the quiet doing something to get to the next level so I disagree everything has a purpose and it's time.

      You need to understand why....why aren’t you motivated? If you start to journal just once, it is a beginning. The purpose of a journal is too mind dump, both positive and negative. Good luck! Took me 53 years to start. I have been journaling for 4 years.....feels great
