Didn't get around to Mario until I got a plug n' play thing from the mall when I was a teen. It broke not even two weeks later from one rage quit too many.
I actually only played Red & Blue before Pokemon Go, but getting to know other generations of Pokemon through Pokemon Go has made me go back and try the other games.

I have only played bloodborne and I would say that if you owned a ps1, ps2 or any console from those generations and finished games some of the hrader titles then you can finish a soulsborne game.
There are other games that could easily become super addictive! I'm about to start gaming but getting addicted is one of the things I have to watch out for!

Hi, I'm Carl and I'm an Old Geek. ["Hi, Carl!"] I have never played Call of Duty. ["Gasp!"] Seriously, I'm not talking myself up here, but I'm a combat veteran and my nightmares are vivid enough, thank you. The *last* thing I need is a hyper-realistic shooter. And that's weird because I've played and enjoyed games that simulate combat with firearms, but I think there has to be a certain cartoony element that distances the 'reality' of experience.

I honestly tried WoW. My friend grew up playing it, and she tried to get me into it too. I played the free trial for a while and was not a fan at all. FF14, on the other hand, I've been playing since the PS4 version had a beta lol

I've been an avid gamer for 30 years, played some of the greatest games ever made, genre defining games and yet every one of their picks I haven't played either. Even down to Mario 64 - I played that in a store but never played it at home. I feel your shame!
If you've never player modern warfare, you've never played a fps. You may as well be saying you've never played fifa because you got bored of sensible soccer.
Me and Scott had a similar gaming projection. I went from Sega Genesis to PS1 and had a Gameboy/GB Color. Though my brother was always the opposite gamer, I was Genesis he was SNES, I was PS1 he was N64 and Dreamcast, I was PS2 he was Xbox, PS3-360, PS4-XB1. So I always got a chance to play the other consoles...they just weren't mine. But I'm also in the same boat as Rich. I never played Crash or Spyro back in the day. Back then, I saw those as little kids games, I thought they were the kinds of games you give to a 4 year old so I always waved them off (considering I grew up with a Dad who didn't care if I played violent games like Mortal Kombat or something). So I do have the Remake of Spyro now, and absolutely loved the first game (haven't played 2 or 3 yet).
FFX's combat is probably my favorite of the whole franchise. Hot-swapping party members gives you a lot more options. Seeing the exact turn order lets you plan ahead and strategize better. Mix the turn-based hot-swap from X with VII's material system and you'd have the perfect combat and character progression.
🇩🇪 I understand Ewan. I got into FF because of FF7 Advent Children and when I re-bought me a PS2 and my first PS1 that little shop gave me FF12 as present, that was in 2017. Now I have 6, 7, Dirge of Cerberus, 8, 10, 10-2, 12, 13, 13-2, Lightning Returns, 15, 12 Zodiac Age, 10/10-2 HD, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, Dissidia NT, KH1, KH2, KH1.5 + KH2.5 HD, KH2.8 (2019) AND I DONT STOP, NO ONE STOPS ME.
Ash's point is the exact reason why I haven't played many RPG's, and Borderlands proves that point. I finally started the series two years ago, and now I have over a month clocked in amongst all of them. I think right now, I have over half a month alone on 2.
lol - same, except my list is a little more shitty! I've never played an Uncharted game, in fact, I've never played a Naughty Dog game, not one till this day. The first and last Mario game I played was the NES Mario Bros the only NES Game I played, other than Final Fantasy 2/3, I've never played a Final Fantasy game beyond those two. And now let's get even more disgusting: I've never played on a Playstation or Xbox console, and the Nintendo devices I owned were the Gameboy Advance and 3DS, where I only played pokemon LeafGreen and Emerald on & the 2 final fantasy games, and I've never played a 3Ds game - so yeah, I had a 3Ds with no games on it. Never touched a PS 2/3/4 controller and the only reason I used an Xbox 360 controller, is because they double as a PC controller. And not because I had a PC all my life means I played a real Pc game, nope, No RuneScape, no WOw, No C&C, NO Diablo, worst of all, I've never played a game from an indie studio, despite how much I support them verbally.
I missed put on ALL the cool Nintendo stuff growing up, outside of the handhelds. My family never has an NES or SNES. When N64 was out, I was given a PlayStation for Christmas instead. My first Nintendo home console was the GameCube. The main reason I rushed out to get one was due to the announcement of the first 3D Fire Emblem. What a time to be alive!
I've never played any fromsoft games but I love them all never played metal gear well a demo on PS1 but I love the whole franchise the original 3 silent hiills never played them but I sure do appreciate them
Me neither - except that one time my housemate hoarded the Wii and sneakily played the latest Mario in my room - the only other room with a TV in it. At one point she got stuck on a level and being really into platform games, she just handed me a Wiimote and I sailed past and was completely bored by the experience. I feel like Mario is only revered because it 'got there first' in terms of platform game history.
I can relate to a lot of what's been said. I never owned a Nintendo console, nor did I ever own a PS1 or PS2. I've also never owned an Xbox console. My first console was a Sega GameGear in 1994. The number of games and game series I've skipped would make some people's jaws drop. Never played any Spyro game, any Crash game, any Ratchet game, any Sly Cooper game, any Metroid game, any Pokemon game or any Zelda game. I thnk I played a Mario game once or watched another kid play it once. Haven't played WOW, Bioshock 1 and 2, the entire Dead Space series, all of Resdent Evil aside from one of the Revelation games (1 I think) and RE1 remastered,, none of Final Fantasy 1 through 11, none of the Halo games, none of the Gears of War games, none of the Left For Dead games, and it goes on.

I'm with you, Ewan. Only FF game I played was Mystic Quest for the SNES. I was in a Nintendo family (still am), never had a Playstation or any console that could play a Final Fantasy game. But now that a bunch of titles are coming to the Switch I finally have an opportunity
I never even realised Ewans point! Just imagine playing the original releases of every game in a franchise in order, no enhanced versions or remakes, ONLY the original first version of a game, and you don't allow yourself to play anything else before finishing the series! It's like when i go back and watch EVERY MCU movie every time a new one comes out! Just imagine how long it would take to beat every main series Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior/Quest or Assassin's Creed game, just to make sure you didn't miss anything... I mean, you can plow through NES and SNES RPGs in a day if you know what you are doing, but if you don't use guides or have played them before, it can take WEEKS to get through just one game!
Desperately tried to get into the elder scroll games, got morrowind, oblivion and skyrim but never went further than a few hours into them. I guess western rpgs are just not my thing. Never played any fallout game either.
Morrowind sucked, and Oblivion and Skyrim take a good 4-5 hours of playtime before they really get going. I mean definitely fair play that you wouldn't want to sink 5 hours into a game just for it to START getting good, but if you ever wanted to give it another go, know that there IS a good part coming up...
The Metal Gear series, I've always wanted to play it, but as a kid I rage quitted MGS1 after I thought Meryl died after she's shot lol Most of PS Exclusives as I didn't have a PS4, I recently got a PS4 so I'm going to be playing catch up for a bit. I own the Borderlands, Halo and Bioshock Collection, but never played them. Not fussed about Pokémon, not really a Nintendo fan either but would like to play the Zelda games. Others include Dark Souls, Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
First off I applaud your ability to State this. Second off I am appalled and demand you play at least one of them. Right now. Go. Are you playing them yet? Why not?
All of those early mascots missed me. Crash Bandicoot, Jax and Daxter, Spyro, Rachet and Clank, Banjo-Kazooie. I couldn't bring myself to play those early collect-a-thons.
I did the 10-day trial back during WoW's Burning Crusade launch. I ended up subscribing before the trial was over and it took another month and a half before I stepped back from the abyss. That's a month and a half of nothing but eating, playing WoW, and grudgingly sleeping as little as I could so I could get back to WoW.
To be fair to Ewan though. All the final fantasy entries, aside from xiii-2 and lightening returns, are not connected so you wouldn't be lost in the story. Reappearing characters share the same name but their personality and actual character are different

Can I just say I started this with Rach is awesome...which she is....she just has very limited games that she can talk about. yeah, as someone who never owned a console or a handheld, there's loads of games I never played. Add to that the fact that while in Uni all I had a was a crappy laptop, and my backlog spans several generations of games. The good thing is, even if this always online, all streaming future thing ever happens, i'll never run out of old games to play.
Not gaming but last Christmas ET was on TV and my Mrs said " Shhh I'm trying to watch this, I've never seen it before" the next night Jaws was on and she'd never seen that either...Im still looking for the rock she grew up under

To be honest, I’ve been an all out Nintendo girl although I am Sonic the Hedgehog’s number one fan. I haven’t played much of the Final Fantasy games, the Crash Bandicoot games, and the Spyro games either and I need to play more Kingdom Hearts. I also wasn’t into the Zelda franchise when I was a kid. Though I have fond memories of watching my best friend’s older brother playing Ocarina of Time and being fascinated with it and renting and enjoying WindWaker. I was eighteen almost nineteen when I finally gave the franchise a chance and have beaten Twilight Princess and played some of Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild. There’s still a whole lot I need to catch up on though. Lol I always loved Link, Zelda, Young Link, Toon Link, and Ganondorf from Super Smash Bros though.😊

Never played any Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed, Zelda, Metal Gear, and others. lol Thing is, I grew up playing video games but the variety of what I had was different. On my Super Nintendo I had things like Primal Rage, Super Mario World, Buster Busts Loose, Sunset RidersR, Revolution X, some Spiderman/X-Men games, and others. When I got my Playstation I mostly had wrestling games and Tony Hawk.

Besides a single game of Mario Kart at a friend's house and possibly the original 2D Donkey Kong, I've never played anything with Mario in it. Never played a Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Halo, Uncharted, Sims, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Resident Evil, Metroid, Need for Speed, God of War, Mass Effect, Mortal Kombat or Star Wars game. According to the video, never having played Spyro is apparently a big deal, so add that to the list. But I have completed Hour of Victory, and that game was absolutely dire.
I've never played a Ratchet and Clank game before. I love adventure platformers. I've played Crash, Spyro, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, and even the ps2 era Scooby Doo games but have never played a single R&C game.
Don’t feel bad Rich, the only Spiro game I’ve ever played was the one for the game boy advance and I probably played it for a minute before getting bored.
Grew with only Nintendo consoles but even I’ve played Spyro. Went to a cousins house and had a good time with it with there. Yeah, rich’s surprised me the most.
I finally played Shadow of Colossus, the remaster. Thank you PS Plus for offering it as free download in march 2020. I'm halfway thru it and it is fantastic.

For me, I've never played the From Software Souls-Borne games. Everyone talks about how difficult they are and that just sounds stressful to me.

Me and Scott had a similar gaming projection. I went from Sega Genesis to PS1 and had a Gameboy/GB Color. Though my brother was always the opposite gamer, I was Genesis he was SNES, I was PS1 he was N64 and Dreamcast, I was PS2 he was Xbox, PS3-360, PS4-XB1. So I always got a chance to play the other consoles...they just weren't mine.
But I'm also in the same boat as Rich. I never played Crash or Spyro back in the day. Back then, I saw those as little kids games, I thought they were the kinds of games you give to a 4 year old so I always waved them off (considering I grew up with a Dad who didn't care if I played violent games like Mortal Kombat or something). So I do have the Remake of Spyro now, and absolutely loved the first game (haven't played 2 or 3 yet).
Ash's thoughts on WoW are why I never played Overwatch... I just know I'll forget to go to work someday.

FFX's combat is probably my favorite of the whole franchise. Hot-swapping party members gives you a lot more options. Seeing the exact turn order lets you plan ahead and strategize better.
Mix the turn-based hot-swap from X with VII's material system and you'd have the perfect combat and character progression.

lol - same, except my list is a little more shitty! I've never played an Uncharted game, in fact, I've never played a Naughty Dog game, not one till this day. The first and last Mario game I played was the NES Mario Bros the only NES Game I played, other than Final Fantasy 2/3, I've never played a Final Fantasy game beyond those two.
And now let's get even more disgusting: I've never played on a Playstation or Xbox console, and the Nintendo devices I owned were the Gameboy Advance and 3DS, where I only played pokemon LeafGreen and Emerald on & the 2 final fantasy games, and I've never played a 3Ds game - so yeah, I had a 3Ds with no games on it. Never touched a PS 2/3/4 controller and the only reason I used an Xbox 360 controller, is because they double as a PC controller. And not because I had a PC all my life means I played a real Pc game, nope, No RuneScape, no WOw, No C&C, NO Diablo, worst of all, I've never played a game from an indie studio, despite how much I support them verbally.
I missed put on ALL the cool Nintendo stuff growing up, outside of the handhelds. My family never has an NES or SNES. When N64 was out, I was given a PlayStation for Christmas instead.
My first Nintendo home console was the GameCube. The main reason I rushed out to get one was due to the announcement of the first 3D Fire Emblem. What a time to be alive!

I've never played a single Mario game in my entire life.
Me neither - except that one time my housemate hoarded the Wii and sneakily played the latest Mario in my room - the only other room with a TV in it. At one point she got stuck on a level and being really into platform games, she just handed me a Wiimote and I sailed past and was completely bored by the experience.
I feel like Mario is only revered because it 'got there first' in terms of platform game history.

I can relate to a lot of what's been said. I never owned a Nintendo console, nor did I ever own a PS1 or PS2. I've also never owned an Xbox console. My first console was a Sega GameGear in 1994. The number of games and game series I've skipped would make some people's jaws drop. Never played any Spyro game, any Crash game, any Ratchet game, any Sly Cooper game, any Metroid game, any Pokemon game or any Zelda game. I thnk I played a Mario game once or watched another kid play it once. Haven't played WOW, Bioshock 1 and 2, the entire Dead Space series, all of Resdent Evil aside from one of the Revelation games (1 I think) and RE1 remastered,, none of Final Fantasy 1 through 11, none of the Halo games, none of the Gears of War games, none of the Left For Dead games, and it goes on.

Just imagine playing the original releases of every game in a franchise in order, no enhanced versions or remakes, ONLY the original first version of a game, and you don't allow yourself to play anything else before finishing the series!
It's like when i go back and watch EVERY MCU movie every time a new one comes out! Just imagine how long it would take to beat every main series Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior/Quest or Assassin's Creed game, just to make sure you didn't miss anything...
I mean, you can plow through NES and SNES RPGs in a day if you know what you are doing, but if you don't use guides or have played them before, it can take WEEKS to get through just one game!

Desperately tried to get into the elder scroll games, got morrowind, oblivion and skyrim but never went further than a few hours into them. I guess western rpgs are just not my thing.
Never played any fallout game either.
Morrowind sucked, and Oblivion and Skyrim take a good 4-5 hours of playtime before they really get going. I mean definitely fair play that you wouldn't want to sink 5 hours into a game just for it to START getting good, but if you ever wanted to give it another go, know that there IS a good part coming up...
The Metal Gear series, I've always wanted to play it, but as a kid I rage quitted MGS1 after I thought Meryl died after she's shot lol
Most of PS Exclusives as I didn't have a PS4, I recently got a PS4 so I'm going to be playing catch up for a bit.
I own the Borderlands, Halo and Bioshock Collection, but never played them. Not fussed about Pokémon, not really a Nintendo fan either but would like to play the Zelda games.

All of those early mascots missed me. Crash Bandicoot, Jax and Daxter, Spyro, Rachet and Clank, Banjo-Kazooie. I couldn't bring myself to play those early collect-a-thons.
I did the 10-day trial back during WoW's Burning Crusade launch. I ended up subscribing before the trial was over and it took another month and a half before I stepped back from the abyss. That's a month and a half of nothing but eating, playing WoW, and grudgingly sleeping as little as I could so I could get back to WoW.
I've never played any Final Fantasy, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Red Dead 1 or 2, any Metal Gear Solid... Probably shouldn't have a gaming podcast.

To be fair to Ewan though. All the final fantasy entries, aside from xiii-2 and lightening returns, are not connected so you wouldn't be lost in the story. Reappearing characters share the same name but their personality and actual character are different

I really loved Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 was passable, Lightning Returns never finished...
I agree, lightning returns had good combat and the cosplay features were awsome but thats all it had.
I played and finished all three, going Platinum on XIII-2 bc I honestly loved the gameplay, graphics, and music. The plot was a bit of a mess. Ha!
I played all 3 and though some combat bits were a bit... Ehh.. The over arching story was lovely
I loved ff13 once I accepted what the game was, the sequal turned out as big disappointments to me mostly due to the story

Can I just say I started this with Rach is awesome...which she is....she just has very limited games that she can talk about. Don’t get me wrong I love her personality and perspective even when it’s something she hasn’t played but I stand by what I said and I do believe that she is very limited in comparison to the others. yeah, as someone who never owned a console or a handheld, there's loads of games I never played.
Add to that the fact that while in Uni all I had a was a crappy laptop, and my backlog spans several generations of games.
The good thing is, even if this always online, all streaming future thing ever happens, i'll never run out of old games to play.
Not gaming but last Christmas ET was on TV and my Mrs said " Shhh I'm trying to watch this, I've never seen it before" the next night Jaws was on and she'd never seen that either...Im still looking for the rock she grew up under

And have played all of DMC games. But I think it's time I change that . If you're willing to give DMC a chance, I can do the same for FF7. I'm a grown adult now, so maybe I'll take me longer to finish ff7 that I would back when I was a kid🤣

To be honest, I’ve been an all out Nintendo girl although I am Sonic the Hedgehog’s number one fan. I haven’t played much of the Final Fantasy games, the Crash Bandicoot games, and the Spyro games either and I need to play more Kingdom Hearts. I also wasn’t into the Zelda franchise when I was a kid. Though I have fond memories of watching my best friend’s older brother playing Ocarina of Time and being fascinated with it and renting and enjoying WindWaker. I was eighteen almost nineteen when I finally gave the franchise a chance and have beaten Twilight Princess and played some of Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild. There’s still a whole lot I need to catch up on though. Lol
I always loved Link, Zelda, Young Link, Toon Link, and Ganondorf from Super Smash Bros though.😊

On my Super Nintendo I had things like Primal Rage, Super Mario World, Buster Busts Loose, Sunset RidersR, Revolution X, some Spiderman/X-Men games, and others. When I got my Playstation I mostly had wrestling games and Tony Hawk.

In exactly the same boat as Rach. I missed so many games as I played WOW (and Championship/Football Manager) exclusively for about 6-7 years.
Now making up for it, buying old consoles and games to experience these great games.

Besides a single game of Mario Kart at a friend's house and possibly the original 2D Donkey Kong, I've never played anything with Mario in it. Never played a Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Halo, Uncharted, Sims, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Resident Evil, Metroid, Need for Speed, God of War, Mass Effect, Mortal Kombat or Star Wars game. According to the video, never having played Spyro is apparently a big deal, so add that to the list. But I have completed Hour of Victory, and that game was absolutely dire.
I've never played a Ratchet and Clank game before. I love adventure platformers. I've played Crash, Spyro, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, and even the ps2 era Scooby Doo games but have never played a single R&C game.

Grew with only Nintendo consoles but even I’ve played Spyro. Went to a cousins house and had a good time with it with there. Yeah, rich’s surprised me the most.
I finally played Shadow of Colossus, the remaster. Thank you PS Plus for offering it as free download in march 2020. I'm halfway thru it and it is fantastic.
