What Powers Luthen Rael's Ship - Star Wars Explained

- Luthen Rael’s Fondor Hauler seems to have a little something extra powering its engines. Cassian noted that its hyperdrive seemed stronger than any version of the ship he had ever seen or flown. I think we’re going to discover that it’s powered by kyber crystals, or lightsaber crystals. Luthen gave one to Cassian in episode four, after all. And he’s an antiquities dealer who has at least two holocrons in his collection. And from teasers for the series we’ve seen that his ship can emit energy beams that look a lot like lightsabers to me. I think we’re going to learn more about the ship’s secrets and what powers them soon enough.

Literally the more we learn about Luthen, the more questions we have, and the cooler he becomes. Such a fun character so far
He also has a cool name.
@@Salem-1610 IF THATS EVEN HIS REAL NAME
It also went to hyperspace incredibly quickly. That droid in the dashboard seems to calculate routes very fast.
It does it while controlling the guns too!
This is up there with my favorite ship designs in sci-fi
It’s interesting that despite Tony Gilroy’s apparent disinterest in Jedi he really likes kyber crystals. His projects are what made the Death Star be powered by kyber crystals and now he’s using it to supercharge ships.
Luthen has become one of my top 10 Disney era "new" Star Wars characters. He is just so interesting, I want to know more about his story and what happens to him.
Thanks for the clarification. When I saw the ep I thought Andor was basically saying he had never seen a ship enter hyperspace before, which would make no sense because he had to travel to steal the starpath unit
I’ll be honest with you, it is an AWESOME ship.
aged like wine. holy
Sounds interesting! Looking forward to discover more.
Best ship ever seen since Millennium and Mantis
I assumed it meant that these model ships normally don’t have hyper drives and that Luthen had installed one. Rather than it being upgraded?
There are different variants of hyperdrives in star wars, some being slower than others, for example, the class 2 hyperdrive on imperial star destroyers is a slower one compared to class 1 hyperdrives seen normally on corellian frieghters, with the millenium falcon having a class 0.5 hyperdrive after being modified
Are talking ship computers even normal in Star Wars? I've never seen that. I know 3PO can talk to the Falcon but the Falcon doesn't just talk like an Alexa.
I mean it would be weird if they didn’t exist given the technological advance they had, but I also don’t think that’s ever happened before.
Astromech brains are a thing, no reason that a protocol interface couldn't be wired in too.
You’re right. In From a Certain Point of View, we learn that the various droid brains/components of the Falcon can talk to each other, including L3, but yeah, they don’t usually talk to anyone else. Maybe eventually L3 will have a chat with Lando.
I just wonder if he made it look like a old ship that people will pass over but turns out to have the latest tech and engine under the hood.
space sleeper ? resto-mod for sure
Uuuuuh, i found the design of this ship a little too futuristic for Star Wars, since most of them look aged or even improvised, that machine is anything but _"old"_ or _"discreet"_ , if that's what you mean...🤔
@@Call_Me_The_Storyteller have you not seen the Naboo ships?
@@benbowland
Of course I've seen it, the N1 is my favorite ship in Star War because of the handcrafted design.
If I remember correctly, George said in an interview that the designs of the ships in the prequel trilogy are directly inspired by the cars of the 50s and 60s, being better crafted and more artistic, while in the classic trilogy, they have a purely industrial, simple design, easy to mass produce, that's what I meant by "improvised".
Since this is covering a canon version of The Force Unleashed and the start of the rebellion, his ship needs to be as cooler as Starkiller's Rogue Shadow.
I can't wait to see that!
It had never occurred to me that hyperdrives could be more or less powerful
I'm pretty sure those lasers are just beam cannons similar to those on Republic Gunships. They'd have to be powered by bled kyber to be red like that and that seems incredibly unlikely.
I mean he has holocrons in the back room of his antiquities gallery so is it that far fetched that he could have plundered a sith tomb?
Make a PVC model of this ship please Lucasfilm, and not just a bloody LEGO.
WHAT. Dammit I hadn't seen the energy beams until now...wish that had stayed a surprise.
Me neighter but maybe it doesnt even happen.
Speculating that Luthien had some connection to the Jedi, which is why he fights the Empire now.
I watch and listen to a lot of review shows and your the person to highlight this point! Good work
I would prefer if luthen wasn't a jedi, it would make him special as just a normal guy
I love his ship!
Kyber crystals aren’t an energy source. They channel the energy from the power core into a plasma beam.
Electron microscopes aren’t powered by lenses. They are powered by electricity.
I don't even remember all the Star Wars movies which one was this one from
It’s from the new series called Andor
Its not lightsabers its energy beams like the cannon from clone wars that emits a few seconds of big red laser beam
It is more likely to become more of a mystery than fact. The more we seem to question the Star Wars universe the further we go away from truth. At this point they’re just making it up as they go and we’re here creating theories.
I don't know if I like that addition they used kyber crystals to explain too many different things lately
Like what?
Kyber crystals don't power anything. They seem to function as an amplifier for plasma beams but those aren't used to propel anything
I wonder if Huyang helped him with that? ;) Or Galen, since he won that engineering medal. But seriously, I am curious why we’ve not seen this before (or after). Is it just because kyber is too rare?
Thought I was the only one who remembers huyang. Hope we see him again someday
The ship is powered by Warp Drives ahahaha
Dilithium.
If he's using kyber crystals for those lasers on his ship, wouldn't the technology be similiar to the death star ? Except on a much smaller scale
SW fumbles when it tries to explain stuff like this. The ship is what it is, nuff said.
