  • One of the biggest celebrations in American Samoa bringing together villages through pride, song, dance and of course, fautasi racing!
To think I was going to be here 4 months earlier with a different plan! Ended up shifting to be a part of such a big unique and beautiful celebration of American Samoa’s territorial relationship to the US, while retaining a strong sense of pride and culture, as SAMOA ❤️🥰

question. how do they ACTUALLY FEEL to be a us TERRITORY for America Samoa? I know that how the Us aquired them is better then how the US acquired hawai'i but just wondering

Ahhh BIG question that I will never have the answer for as im not Samoan, but from many conversations i've had. Samoans (AM SAMOANS) are genuinely proud or should say love their status with the US. Whether it has to do with access to resources such as the military or simply moving to the US or other factors. Their matai around the time it became a territory protected the lands so no outside forces could buy and own. It's all family lineage and percentage. Now the topic for citizenship rights is a whole conversation. But that sums up what I've learned :)

We’re proud to be under the U.S and proud to serve under it as they protect us from any threat around the pacific. And yes I’m American Samoan 🇦🇸

Hi, question, how do you connect with people on your travels? How do you really immerse in their culture? Please be specific.
