Rye Patch Nugget Shoot 2021

The Nugget Shoot is Nevada's largest FREE planted Metal Detecting Hunt. Join me on this 2021 GPAA of Northern Nevada-Reno, Nevada Parks Department, and local organizations sponsored event. Located at Rye Patch State Recreation Area in the Nevada desert, this free hunt is a wonderful event for kids and adult Metal Detecting Buffs alike. Thousands of dollars worth of gold, silver, coins and prizes are up for grabs for the most skilled and luckiest hunters attending.
Event hosts are as follows ...the Nevada State Parks Department (Rye Patch), the GPAA of Northern Nevada, Reno Inc., the Reno Prospecting and Detecting Club, the American Mining Rights Association (AMRA), and the Reno Gem & Mineral Society.

I've lived in Winnemucca for 30 years and I metal detect and this is the first that I have herd of the nugget hunt please keep me informed Thanks

It has been an annual event in the past but I heard talk that every year is not guaranteed. Search "Rye Patch nugget shoot" sometime to see if one is planned for this year.

I'm going to reno at the end of September. Do you think rye patch is the best place to detect or is there a better place I could go. Thanks

George, you do realize that the nugget shoot is a sponsored planted hunt and a completely different animal from hunting in the wild. They were talking about skipping a year or two and I don't know if another one has happened since 2021. Other than that I don't know of any good spots in the wild except for the usual locals like parks and schools. Contacting Northwest treasure hunters club might be a good start to get information.

Is the nuggets shoot on a claim. I've been trying to find a place to detect for gold near rye patch but dint want to drive all the way just to find there is no area open to the public

As far as I know it's not on a claim. I believe it's state park land but there are claims in the area. I don't want to give you bad info so I'm really not the one to ask. You might inquire with GPAA.
