- Continuing Heriot-Watt's interview with Ian Rankin, he discusses why, out of all the countries and cities he could live in, he has chosen Edinburgh.
This video forms part of our interview with Ian about Dame Muriel Spark, Heriot-Watt graduate and author of, amongst other works, the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. To find out more, download the Heriot-Watt University alumni magazine at bit.ly/1OceSpR

I prefer his talking to his writing and let me make it clear that I absolutely love his writing.
Very good - so true ! One more reason why I didn't stay on after graduation - lack of loads of quiet country roads to cycle through, anywhere in Scotland, seemingly.
The long cold months and the grey architecture drove me to leave Edinburgh as a young man of around 20 in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The constant overcast and dark skies together with the grey buildings made the city look like a gigantic Victorian cemetery.
Totally
I thought Ian was UoE Alumni???
I think Edinburgh is a shitehole.
....but I think Mr Rankin is a very talented fiction storyteller , in more ways than one.
