Scottish people are the nicest indeed. I only spent 2 weeks in Scotland a month ago, but I am in love with the people. I remember at one point I was travelling on bus 26 to Portobello and a drunk guy on a seat behind me puked all over the place. Everybody had to get off, the bus didn't go any further and we had to wait for another one to come. Me, coming from Hungary, expected people and the driver to be angry at that guy, but nobody were. The driver made sure he was fine, gave him advice (like take deep breaths, etc) and when he got better, elder ladies were nicely talking to him while we all were waiting for the next bus. In my country people would have shouted at him, ignored him, etc. Scottish people were genuinely nice to me too all the time, they were smiling at me, etc which is such a huge shift from what we are used to here in Central-Eastern Europe. (And not just here, honestly, no offence to French people and English ones, but I have always found them to be extremely rude for no reason, so I tend to say that this kindness really is a uniquely Scottish thing).
As a Scottish woman who’s been living in Germany for 25 years you can imagine how sad I was coming here wondering why nobody was friendly to me or asking me questions. Even after all this time, and I speak German, I am still pretty sad about it. I also miss getting away from people. If you go for a forest walk you meet cyclists, joggers and dog walkers. Impossible to pee in private or just get away from people.
I'm "moved by bagpipes". In the sense that I "move" as far away as possible the minute I hear the skirl of them. Awful instrument and I hate that my culture is associated with them. Other than that though, there's not a thing I'd change about being Scottish.
I'm a senior citizen (from the U.S.) who loves the pomp and ceremony that comes with the Royals and I genuinely believe that even if the monarchy was abolished it wouldn't make poor people any better off. There will always be rich people and, unfortunately, poor people. A Constitutional Monarchy seems to be a better alternative than the CLUSTERF#*K that is our current government here in America. We have extremely wealthy people and extremely poor people too. Just saying that if the monarchy went away it wouldn't necessarily solve all of the inequity woes. The castles, traditions, etc. contribute to the tourism coffers because of people who do like the royals! I enjoy your videos since my daughter and her family also live in Edinburgh and have for over twenty years!
I say "thank you" to the bus driver 😊 I learned that here in Scotland.
It does really offend me when people think of the UK as one singular thing, we are different countries with different ethnicities and cultures. UK is often just conflated with England too and this is why it bothers me so much. we are not the same in any way. i have no affiliation with england or even britain, im scottish and only scottish.
People in Scotland live on 8% of the land. 25% of the land is occupied by hunting estates. We are definitely NOT overfull!
Point Number 4. Very telling. My wife, of 22 years, is English and understands what you have seen absolutely. People need to come to the UK and Scotland and SEE the difference for themselves. It's the only way to do it.
The schedule may be tight but the quality never dissapoints, take your time making those videos, there are people who appreciates them a million! (:
But it is cold AF.
