- Can you balance the Zhiyun Crane M3 with Canon M50 & Sigma 16mm lens? Yes you can! Today I show you the exact vlogging setup I am using with the Crane M3 gimbal, and the specific trick I use to balance it with the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 - aka, the perfect vlogging lens.

The Crane M3 is the first high-end gimbal to fit the gap between lightweight gimbals built to handle phones and small cameras, and big gimbals built to handle professional-sized camera bodies and lenses. It takes a very specific balancing act to handle the Canon M50 Mark II with the Sigma 16mm EF-M lens, but it is definitely possible. In this video, I walk you through the process and share some additional vlogging accessories I include to create an awesome Crane M3 vlogging setup.

You proved to me long ago that the best camera is the one you have with you when you did your vlog from AMSTERDAM on a Go Pro! Your goal was to show us that great city and you did it in spades. Using that Sigma 16 MM seems to really push the M3 to its upper payload limits. This photography game changes so much faster than my wallet. The new smartphones are both very forgiving and awesome. The amazing editing software lets us make magic. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with the latest equipment and always thoughtful advice. We need many more competent video journalists to show us what our lamestream media won’t. We do need a way around CZcams censorship and Algorithm chicanery.

Hey Alicia. Great video as always. I have experienced the ND filter issue with exactly the same setup. However I decided to mount the Rode receiver on the camera hot shoe and it counterbalances the additional weight of the filter. As long as I balance as best I can, then the ND 0-400 filter and the rode receiver pretty much cancel each other out. Take care and stay safe. Ray @Ray and Sues Travel Channel.
Hi there, thanks for this video it is very well done. Could you please do a video explaining the functions through the zy play app. I have a Canon m50 mark ii and crane m3 but I can't figure it out how to use its functions like a re order with the bottom from the gimbal or cellphone.
Just upgraded to the M50 Mark II with my Sigma 16 MM lens. Now I have the M3 gimbal too. It’s a boat anchor to carry around. That lens is heavy. Great lens but for interviews I prefer using a tripod I always have in my car trunk…. For moving targets that M3 is amazing. Getting used to the M3 from no gimbal is a learning experience. The results are wonderful. That Sigma lens has no stabilization on its own. 1.2 is amazing. The little zoom kit lens is so much lighter!
That's so awesome to hear!! The 16mm is definitely a bit larger than I would like for crop sensor, but that aperture can be SO worth it!
Do you find that you prefer this gimbal over the WEEBIL-S overall? Or is this just your vlogging preference?
I'm looking for a canon m50/sigma 16mm gimbal, but I don't necessarily care about optimizing it for vlogging myself. I'd also like a gimbal that can scale as I upgrade to larger cameras in the future.
I watched your initial review of the WEEBIL-S, and you seemed to really love it, but then came across this video that is more recent. Have you ditched the WEEBIL-S for the Crane M3, or does the Crane just serve a different purpose for you? Will the WEEBIL-S balance more naturally since it's built for larger cameras?
Hello Alicia, I would like to know why you do not use the m6 mark II with the g6 max gimbal, I ask you because I just bought the gimbal and I have configuration problems, it seems that it does not resolve the weight well, the camera shakes a lot even only with the kid lens, I would like to know if the g6 max is not enough. Alicia, thank you for this video. I had searched so many to balance my M3 with my Sony ZV1 and yours was the most useful. Can i just ask a couple of questions, does the M3 vibrate ever so slightly when in use. I have collaborated it and it was successful. Do you know what settings in the ZV1 menu are to connect the lead to the M3 so that i can use the M3 to record. Thanks

Hi! I’m just wondering how were you able to make the functions of the gimbal work for the M50 Mark II. I didn’t see you connect the transmount bluetooth or the cable wire from the camera to the gimbal. I’ve been trying to make it work too for my M50 but no luck!

*Nice to see someone not use so much terminology as oppose to just doing it at the same time because not everyone can learn at the same pace. I have the Crane M2 paired with my a6400 with the same lens but find it easier with the ZV1 but still refreshing to know someone explaining it in simple terms*
I'm glad you found that helpful! Trying to memorize which term means what is not the most important part of using a gimbal.. It's more about getting a FEEL for it. Have fun with your ZV1!

Much more expensive than the Crane M2, do you think it's worth the price?
It depends on whether you want to put a mirrorless camera on it and attempt these larger lenses.. if you're just using a point and shoot or iPhone then you can definitely stick to the M2!
