I have one and my only advice for beginners is take it easy this quad has some power easy on the throttle and stay in angle mode until you are confident you have the basics down. Stay low at first learn how to move around line of sight (it helps to try to keep moving forward and then in circles until you can make laps) this can be a frustrating hobby when I started i lost or broke something almost every time out so have some spare parts ready. Lastly every time you burn through your packs (this is important) check all your screws make sure they are all still tight i had my cam mount come apart mid flight causing a 150ft fall loosing a side plate and all the screws, i barley found it. The beeper is not loud enough to rely on so keep it in the back of your head where you are flying this does have some range so your spotter can loose sight of it and still be flying. All in all this experience is priceless when everything just comes together and you loose yourself in the sky. Your battery wont last long when you start to "float like a leaf". If your watching this video thinking this is amazing and i want to experience fpv, do it, its a rollercoaster of emotions but its worth it.

Hopefully these RTF kits will continue to improve until we eventually have something to whole heartedly recommend to a brand new person to have fun with.

Everybody hates on the TinyHawk Freestyle battery setup, but it is fantastic for people that are new to the hobby. You get a 6-port charger with the TinyHawk. You get another with the Freestyle or Race. You get to buy one inexpensive battery and fly it on your first indoor and outdoor quad, and you don't have to figure out how to choose a real charger and charge real batteries.
Tell Emax they need to scrap their radio and put the BetaFPV Literadio in a kit like this!

Thanks for this quick review - I totally agree with your views as a new comer to the hobby.
This RTF kit and it taught me so many things. It's an amazing educational kit! Having the drone, transmitter, and a goggle to mess around with teaches a new comer just how complex fpv flying is compared to a $20 toy drone in stab mode.
I absolutely agree that spending time in simulator first is the best way to start. It's like playing a game so the time passes very fast. There are free sims on Steam that are good enough to get started. Make sure you learn ACRO mode.
Plug in the drone to your computer and learn betaflight. Learn the jargon by watching endless tutorials on tuning.
Put on the goggle and have someone "pretend fly" the drone so that you can get used to the fisheye view with constant noise in the analog feed. You'll learn just how fast things seem to get up close and not panic and disarm the drone into the ground.
Based on my personal experience is that with 15+ hours of ACRO mode control training and being used to noisy visual feed, you're ready to fly fpv somewhat safely and not lose/destroy your drone.

A couple years ago you could go to Walmart or Target and buy a quad called the Skyviper 2450 GPS. It used Ardupilot instead of Betaflight but you could connect to it via wifi and enable acro and tune the rates yourself. It only had brushed motors but it flew pretty well considering. I was hoping they would keep going in that direction and get better quads to retail but they seem to have given up on the drone market.

I bought the TinyHawk 2 RTF kit. Was really nice for a beginner's fast jump start.
The radio cannot be used in simulators via USB cable in the radio itself! It is just for loading.
You have to plugin your quad and go to BetaFlight CLI and use something like "set usb_hid_cdc = on" and save. Then your quad relays the stick movements to the PC as a joystick input device. Afterwards you have to turn it off again otherwise you cannot fly with your quad.
----> really cumbersome to use! Would not recommend
Another downside is, that the quad is heating up, since it is not flying through air. So I was anxious of burning my quad, while safely practicing in a sim....
After 2 weeks throttle stutter kicked in and this is very very hard to fly with. So I bought a BetaFPV Lite Radio 2. I am sooo much happy about that radio. And you can connect it via USB and use in a sim :)

Sounds like a fair review coming from an experienced pilot but if they had somehow found a new user to test it, it sounds like the wonky rates would have done them more harm. I think that the only reason to put the rates low is for beginners. Slow rates are much easier for beginners and advanced pilots can just change it. Beginners tend to go further on the stick than they should and that happens automatically. So I think it’s good to put the rates low.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  Před 4 lety

No the rates aren't low by default how you get it. They're extremely erratic. The stick does nothing until the end when it goes nuts! • @Kabab

You'll just need to bind it to the controller and flip the channel on the goggles to match the quad. You can likely find very simple tutorials for both on CZcams. Alternatively, you can pickup a soldering iron and fix the connector if that's all that broke. The Emax Facebook group is also very helpful.

Yeah radios are overall a big opportunity for disruption if you ask me. So much room for improvement. The latest like Radiomaster add value but no one makes it really good across the board or more importantly really easy. More of the same generally. I’m still using an X9D. Yes the Tinyhawk series flies better, the Freestyle is great, but the Whoops, while they fly better are horrible to repair because you have to solder the motors in an awkward position, plus Emax don't sell motors with plugs, and the plugs are not your standard whoop motor plugs, they are camera ones.

Hey, I’m getting the version that doesn’t come with the controller or fpv goggles. Since I already have the taranis X9D+ and I can easily enable D8 mode to bind it to it. And I also have some cheap fpv goggles (for now) and I’m just wondering do I need to use beta flight to do the disarm/arm and normal/acro mode? Or can I just set the switches without betaflight and on the transmitter itself (also I have 5 years of normal drone flying and 100 hours in my drone simulator so I think I’m ready for a real one now :)

Hello there, I am having this as my first ever actual irl fpv kwad, I've flown some old school toy-ish but also not for kids kwads that are basically brushed kwads locked to angle mode and I've flown in simulators (in acro) for quite a while. I am also a pretty smooth dji pilot which probably won't help that much, anyway. I don't have much knowlegde on setting up a kwad though, does the rates it comes with are still not so harshly flyable in acro or you have to connect it to betaflight and set the default rates in order for it to fly like something?

    • @Kabab

This is made for a beginner. It shouldn't be this difficult but it does work so they get a win on this one. Just barely but the kit does work. I still wouldn't recommend this to a total beginner. If the controller worked with simulators I'd consider recommending it but the fact that it does not makes it a sideways buy at best. Anyone experienced would probably already have better goggles and a controller too so I'm kinda confused at who the audience is for this kit.

I strongly recommend this after helping many thousands of people over the past seven years. You will not have a good experience as a new commer to anything that is outside the standard 5" because that is what has had the most development and is most well known. The code and electronics are mostly geared towards the standard 5". You should also pick up a controller and play simulators before attempting to fly FPV.
