    Another great vid Koosh! When I bought my 2004 LLY dually, the standard Xcelerator XG0109S gizmo was in the console. Previous owner pulled a close-to 40 foot gooseneck camper with three slide outs around the country. I had no idea what this was, he said not to screw around with it 'til I had a manual, had no idea what it would do. Mine looks just like yours only the "NO" is on the lower left. Just turned over 90,000 last week, got it with 51,000 three years ago. I'll look around for a manual for this unit, I'm sure he had it tuned to something other than stock from what he hauled with his Silverado. Is it true if you install a non-stock stereo, it can screw with the tuning?, or is that bs? One side note, I installed a new stock type fuel filter, it constantly reads "water in fuel" every start now, even though I have drained the petcock on numerous occasions on the bottom and not much water comes out, and with diesel at 5 bucks a gallon, even that hurts! Any advice would be much appreciated. I'll be getting one of those double fuel filter-separators that mount midway under the frame like Fass or the other one soon too, maybe this will help with the "water in fuel" light (is one better than the other?). Followed your instructions on the rear axle seal replace, piece-a-cake, zero leaks, just shiny chrome cover now, thanks again sir! Thanks for showing the tools you use as well, the big castle nut wrench/socket made it easier. Every time I work on my trucks, I realize what tools I need to make things go smoother, my wife loves it too since we save tons of money doing it all ourselves. So nice to be able maximize my trucks potential from your videos! Thanks again!

      Capt. Kevin, thanks a ton for your words good sir! It's comments like these that let a guy know he's on the right path :) You have an LLY? Cool! I really want an LLY in a short bed, single wheel single cab version that I can use for crawling around the mountains with. I like that the LLY is a bit easier to work on than an LB7, is built relatively the same and it has a VGT turbo with lots of great options for customization. The non-stock stereo thing will not screw with your tuning. I have a non stock stereo. The main thing you have to worry about is when you are in the actual process of tuning and your programmer is re configuring your ECM. When this is happening you do not want any electrical fluctuations that may pulsate and momentarily interrupt your tuner while its doing its thing. This can screw up your ECM and you may or may not be able to recover your tune on your own. Most likely you will either have to have your truck re flashed at a dealership or purchase a new ECM if you are unable to recover it on your own. This is why PPE recommends pulling certain fuses (differs per year), pull your lift pump fuse if you have one, pull your stereo fuse especially if your stereo has a flashy display, etc. I had the "water in fuel message" a couple years ago when one of the wires on my water separator sensor was damaged. I swapped out the sensor for a new one and the message went away. You might check to see if you have a short but I think there is also a fancy reset procedure as well. Let me see if I can find the link..here we go: itstillruns.com/reset-filter-alert-gmc-duramax-5588760.html This might work for ya. Honestly though, unplugging the sensor will not harm anything so long as you change your fuel filter on a regular basis and/or drain the filter every now and again. I can't remember if I hooked mine back up after my last filter change??? haha. a Fass or Airdog lift pump is an excellent idea for your Duramax! I don't think it will help the water in fuel message because its likely a sensor issue since you've already drained your fuel. However, a lift pump will do a fantastic job separating water and air from your fuel. I have a FASS Titanium 95 GPH that's I've used for a few years now with CAT filters and it has done the trick for me. It really helps your CP3 fuel pump run the PPE Xcelerator tunes due to the higher demand of fuel. I also noticed that with the added air separator that it mellowed out the engine idle quite a bit. And not that I mash the accelerator everywhere I go but when I do, the truck pulls through the entire RPM range instead of falling flat on its arse once the fuel demand exceeds what the CP3 can handle. The added fuel cleaning to boot is icing on the cake! Thanks again for watching Kooshdaakaa Garage Capt. Kevin, it means a lot to hear they are helping. Cheers! 🍻

Once I changed my oil and cleared all the gunk out, the change oil light shut off :) One of those rare occasions things work as they should! lol. to answer your question: Yes, you have the option to set back to original stock settings, this will allow you to sell your tuner or use it on another truck if you want. Once set to stock the PPE tuner will say its in stock mode.

      Congrats on getting your Duramax a PPE, it'll be like night and day! You can still run tune 3 without a lift pump, just be aware that your truck might throw some low fuel pressure codes at you and it may put you in limp mode untill you use your PPE to clear the codes. Remember that stock transmissions may slip in the 4 & 5th gear which will also put you in limp mode, so mind your lead foot ;) That being said, I've casually drove in level 5 without issues, but mostly my truck lives in level 2 to keep my transmission happy. Cheers!

      That's strange 🤔 does the check engine light stay on when you put it in stock setting? Can you clear the dtc code with your tuner? I think one of the main reasons the other tunes shift a little harder is because the tuner auto selects the defueling between shifts so it's easier on your transmission. You can turn that mode off if you want but it is a bit more rough on the trans.

      I have gotten away with unplugging the lift pump and powering down my radio and that's about it. If I had more electrical devices in the truck I would probably pull those fuses as well. Ultimately you do not want to disrupt the electrical current while your programmer is doing its thing else you run the risk of ruining your tune. Make sure everything is powered down, don't open the doors (dome light) or use electronic window controls or anything while its tuning. As always cross reference you year truck/options with the user manual!

      It is good practice to but personally I don't. The important thing is that there are not any electrical fluctuations that could corrupt the tuning process. So I turn off the raido, turn off the heater, turn off all lights, don't open any doors while tuning and just sit patiently until the tune is in place. Oh I pull the lift pump fuse of course so that it's not running the entire time.

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Caden. Your transmission will be fine unless you turn it up past the stock trans capability. The PPE tuner has a transmission re learn function you can do that will sync up the trans to your tune and driving style. Usually takes about 15-20 minutes of driving around for the re learn to settle in. During that re learn period be sure to drive through all the gear shifts. Don't go to crazy during that time because the trans will be pretty clunky at first until it finishes its relearn.

    Did you have to get the ppe boost controller to get the most out of that tuner? I assume the hot #5 tune pushed the stock waste gate to its factory psi limit.
    What was the boost max at before and after the tuner was installed? If the turbo boost doesn't increase then the tuner wont ad the increase in fuel. Im curious what the psi has to be to hit those hp numbers.

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for your questions! I actually didn't get my boost gauge until recently and by that time already had my PPE tuner and PPE boost valve for a couple years so I cannot speak to the PSI before the tuner and boost valve. I can say however (now that I have a boost gauge) that the tuner on different power levels push the turbo psi differently. Example: level 1 you really have to get on the accelerator pedal to see 20 psi, whereas level 2 will do it with about half the effort. Level 3-5 it's pretty easy to get in the 25-28 psi range if I mash on the pedal. Daily driving acceleration in level 5 the turbo easily spools from 10-15 psi with minimal effort and will quickly spool up to 25+ from there if I step on it where as daily driving in level 1-2 it takes a bit of effort get spool up to 10 psi when accelerating. Since I have the PPE boost valve, I'm thinking about doing a "with and without" test to see how the boost valve actually effects performance on this truck with this tired nearly 20- year old turbo.

You might check with PPE, but they may sell you and additional license so that you can run the tuner with 2 trucks. Don't quote me on that though. Also in turn if you sell the ppe tuner, you'll want to put the truck back in stock tune so that the tuner can be used on a different truck.

Breaking down in the middle of nowhere on a mountain is not fun so my aim is to give it all the air it needs to run efficiently, and cool without overstraining the components. The tow haul mode (tune 2) fits the bill for what I'm after. Great bottom end torque that allows the truck to crawl up steep logging roads with ease. I've tried the high performance settings on the same logging roads just to see the difference and its a total turd on the bottom end. Makes sense though, the timing, trans shift schedule and air fuel ratios are optimized for top end and not bottom end. Its when I added the 45 over SAC nozzle injectors that it really started to smoke. I'll get an efi live tune before to long to help balance the fuel and air out. All and all I love the PPE tuner!

Although I do not have a lot of experience with later model Duramax engines with emissions systems, I did a little digging around and this is what I found out: The PPE Xcelerator "Standard" like the one I have is designed to work with your DPF systems. However, you can purchase a unit with them already installed on it and the hot tunes will turn off the DPF regen procedure to increase overall performance. That said, if you are looking to delete your DPF, you will want to look into the PPE Xcelerator HOT +2 E.T blessedperformance.com/ppe-xcelerator-hot-2-e-t-power-programmer-111040000/ Just be careful with that beast 😬 Check out that link, they have a full description of its potential, and it looks pretty badass. @KooshdaakaaGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you for your question Tk. This largely depends on the year truck you have and options that came with it. The intent behind pulling fuses is to limit electrical flow while the tuner is changing computer settings so that attention of the computer isn't interrupted which can potentially ruin your tune and result in needing a re flashing. If you have a lift pump, definitely pull that fuse, and it's a good idea to pull the radio fuse and any accessories that might be running while your key is ACC position. I personally have a base line LB7 and have gotten away with pulling the lift pump fuse then turning off my radio and other electronics without pulling additional fuses. Not recommended, but it works. When I do this I make sure to not turn on any electrical components, I don't open the door, turn on any lights or anything so that there isn't any electrical disruption while the computer is being re calibrated. This is a "enter at your own risk" type of scenario though :) Happy tuning!

I get a bit if coal when I floor it but it cleans up pretty quick. Less coal now that I have the CAI, intake heater plug delete, turbo horn, intercooler pipes and 4" exhaust. You'll absolutely noticed a huge boost in power from stock. The higher the tune (1-5) the more power. Level 1-2 are solid tow tunes. 3-5 are pretty solid race tunes.
