In talketneea there is a sled dog tour that your can take in the winter or do dryland mushing in the summer. You actually get to mush your own sled dog team, learn about the races and also meet the dogs. It is owned by a 5-time Iditarod champion.

I would suggest adding Girdwood on the day trip to Portage Glacier. You can take the tram (from Hotel Alyeska) to the top of Mt Alyeska for incredible views. Stop at the Girdwood Bake Shop for a yummy cinnamon roll (what they’re known for).
On the return to Anchorage, you could stop at Flat Top Mountain. There’s a short walk (on paved trail) from the parking area for great views of the inlet and city of Anchorage. Or choose a different day to hike to the top of Flat Top. There’s so much to do and see!

The drive over Hatcher Pass is very cool, and near the summit there are a couple great hikes that feel like you’re a million miles from anywhere. Also the road is dirt, but it is possibly the smoothest dirt road I’ve ever driven, perfectly rental car friendly.

I lived in Achorage for three years. Talkeetna was my favorite small town and I would recommend eating and staying at the Roadhouse. As for other day trips, I'll mention the three favorite things I did while living there... visiting the Matanuska glacier via ATV tour instead of car, visiting the town of Glacier View on the 4th of July, and hiking Crow Pass (an ambitious overnight hike through the Chugach State Park). Honorable mention day trips include hiking Arctic Valley, rafting 6-Mile Creek and hiking the Butte in Palmer.

My daughter and son-in-law took us to Thunderbird Falls. We went to the Farmers Market in Palmer and Anchorage where I was introduced to Reindeer corn dogs. These were delicious. We have gone to Homer where we have slept in a Bed and Breakfast that was the first building built in Homer. We went halibut fishing for the day.

Very succinct coverage of the sights. Well done. Btw, Kenai is pronounced KEEN-eye, (my hometown and another interesting one-day trip from Anchorage. Other day trips down towards, and to, the Peninsula are Alyeska Ski Resort (in off season there are numerous hiking trails, the lodge, and chair lifts to some stunning views of the inlet), Girdwood (near Alyeska and a fun walking town with nifty eateries and shops, and Cooper Landing (more trails, Kenai River fishing tours, ATV tours, and Horseback rides),

Hey I may doing this trip but I am on my own, wondering if there are tour groups that I could out and see these things with? Is renting a car super expensive? Can I see a lot without renting a car? Seems like a rental would be a good idea though....I want to go next fall August sept? Any thoughts or advice out there? I love your videos!!!!!!!!!!!1 Hey to your daddy! I lost my pop so many years ago and I am glad he took us camping a lot and to the beach every summer. I cherish all those memories....

Is there a winter activities in Alaska video?

Great video as usual! Brings back many fond memories for me. Two really interesting tidbits to share about that Turnagain drive: 1. possibly the only place in the world where you have a chance of spotting mountain goats and whales on the same drive. 2. turnagain arm also boasts one of the largest bore tides in the world.
