Tesla Swap Plymouth SURPRISES 700HP Turbo Dodge Dart! (He Built his Own EV Muscle Car)

  • On this episode we feature Kevin's 1972 Plymouth Satellite "Electrollite" that is tesla powered using Model S ludicrous powertrain. This one may be hard for some to swallow, a lot of people will argue that he ruined this beautiful classic American muscle car. We were skeptical at first, but after meeting Kevin and learning about his story we couldn't help but love the build. Kudos to Kevin for building this incredibly clean tire killer!

@@aussiegruber86 which type of actual engineers have You EVER worked with ?
'Sanitation Engineers' and other Fake ones including 'Software Engineers' or perhaps an 'old' locomotive train engineer-driver ?
This work is a simple task and accomplishment for any actual engineer.
WARNING ["Will Robinson"]: FALSEHOOD ALERT 🙄😲😧😖🤥‼
Am actually an engineer with extensive mechanical, mechanic, technical, electrical, electronics, physics, knowledge, experience, expertise.
My MATH 142H, multi-variable calculus professor built a scale steam locomotive, train and track on his property, large enough to ride on sitting and on/in the scaled cars.
Proven, You are falsely portraying actual engineers. 🤥‼
      @Rookie To Pro Buildz;
If You search on this platform and in general, there are numerous EV swap builds and better EV platforms than Tesla.
[See REE - individual motors per wheel - four current platforms - also cooperation with Toyota]
This "Electrollite" - 1968 Satellite EV swap, is clearly a well developed, built, done, with most of the details worked out.
However, it clearly vehicle lacks several proper details which resulted in the first 'rear end', differential issue, and still has issues with spinning the tires with full throttle.
A proper technician-mechanic and especially engineer would know use proper assessment, evaluation, analysis, design thus a complete plan and design prior to beginning the build task.
There are other EV swap-builds which achieve much better results= than what this vehicle has, though it clearly achieves the 'daily driver' with 'fun' and enjoyment type results.
My choice, as an actual engineer would be much different than this. Kevin basically used a Tesla chassis, placing the Satellite body with the customized interior, etc. Clearly he doesn't know enough how to arrange proper EV controls and seems to have had some assistance, which is from a non-engineer also, though most basically works - minus the many Tesla driving controls, etc.
There are far better option than using a Tesla design chassis, electric motors, system, especially their heavy weight batteries, and better performing, charging batteries too. Tesla didn't design, build, manufacture these components either, rather they assemble everything and have in-house design engineers and S/W development.
      Sincerely

Conversions are actually getting somewhat easy, you can buy off the shelf parts to handle a lot of the really complicated electrical engineering and computation stuff.

My expertise in both mechanical, electrical, mechanics, teccncians, design engineer lead me to figure You are clearly ignorant.
A LS/LT, Coyote, Ford, Mopar, Honda, Toyota, etc. swap using any ECU-PCM, is not even close to as easy as You are describing.
An expert within proper tuning for combustion engines is required.
If You choose an older LS, SBE, BBE, etc. without any ECU-PCM, then if You know how to tune an engine, carburetor, ignition properly. it can be relatively easy. - as those did 40-50 years ago

It's not the same as the experience created when going fast by means of a breathing, fire-powered piece of engineering. When you think about what a gas engine goes through, the forces experienced, the strength and precision required to keep it all together...it's a work of art, with so much more inspiration. Much more soul, mechanical feel, excitement.

Not too soon I hope. I love being able to walk away from gas cars in my EV. I had a young fellow in a Newer Dodge Charger wanting to race at a red light a few months back. Normally I just ignore them... unless I'm in my Olds 442, (a more fair race, but I drive it sparingly because of gas prices) but this kid was being a bit obnoxious, so as soon as the light turned green, and I heard his engine revving, I gently pushed down my pedal and saw him in the rearview, making a lot of noise, but not getting any closer. He gave me the finger when I hit the brakes and let him fly by. I know buddy... the fear-based "Get a horse" mentality that has persisted since automobiles where first invented is deeply ingrained in you. Gas vehicles will be around for quite a while, although the ratio of alternate power to petrol will be in a constant state of shifting away from them. The nice thing about that, is that eventually the gas cars on the road will be the fringe rebels, and seeing a fully restored MOPAR product will be even more impressive than it is today.

I had questions about how he was going to make that car stop, with all the added weight and speed, until I saw the gigantic brake rotors and calipers. Also, the cantilever rear suspension blew my mind! Well done. I think a nice finishing touch, would be a black strobe stripe across the roof and down the sides, like my 1972 roadrunner had.

To be fair on the roll race comparison, if the Dart had more convertor stall, and gears steeper than 3.55 it would have turned out differently......the dart makes both more HP and weighs less......it's torque over time = work, and the dart combo (though nice for cruising), kept the engine out of it's power band for a lot of the pulls duration, which is why it faired the way it did.......I'm not anti-electric but, you could take about any turbo-car, and kill its capability with the wrong convertor and/or gearing (a setup capable of 7's in the quarter, would be lucky to run 10's with a stock stall convertor.......just an observation / no-hate.

As time passes, and Electric becomes mainstream, actual gas classic car replacement parts will become more expensive and more novelty than mass produced. If restored classics can survive into the late 2000s-2100s, but as electric restos, I think thats pretty cool.
