Richard this is going to start a chat riot…*laces up boxing gloves*
Looks like a trend setter, a lot of classics are sitting around waiting to be born again.
No, I think this is one of the best things to do to get some classic good looking cars back on the road. These types of conversations are going to be huge business once they become affordable. Thanks for the awesome presentation of this cool conversation. 👍👍
It's no different than any other restomod, where a classic is "sacrificed" for modern amenities, handling, braking, etc.
It only seems sacrilegious with a collectible like this '72 Satellite. However, there are a lot of other nice 1960's and 70's cars out there for cheap that nobody wants as a daily driver because 11 mpg and barge-like handling, no matter how stylish the appearance.
Maybe this type of conversion can give a lot of old iron a second life? Maybe help re-launch the "Keep America Beautiful" movement of the '70s?
You guys have built some amazing machines, but it is awesome to see the enthusiasm you have towards someone else's build! Thank you for sharing!
That means a lot to us. Thanks for the kind words, we want to give credit where credit is due.. and this is a truly phenomenal build.
@@boxeclectic That interior design is better than Tesla's, because it's more creative and while thought out. I can't believe Tesla even put any thoughts into their interior after some nerd put 2 tablets and a Gameboy gear inside.
For real! This keeps viewers like us excited! its all about community.😍
"No ABS, no traction control, no safety nets of any kind."
On a lightweight EV with monstrous torque? I like this guy.
I have a 2013 P85, you can turn the traction control off but not the stability control. It is a handful to drive with no traction control! I can only imagine this thing, you twitch your foot wrong, you’re gonna light them up and spin into the ditch. Freaking awesome!
The reduction gear alone can add weight too lol.like the ev hummer guy
@@allterrainrandy2587 With the Model 3 Performance if you disconnect a wheel speed sensor you lose all stability and traction control, or, if you enter Dyno Mode you get the same effect.
That thing becomes an absolute MONSTER, but it'll also throw you in a ditch as fast as you launch. Breaks all 4 wheels free a little too easily to be practical, I understand why Tesla doesn't let you turn it off normally. :)
When he said that, I turned to the wife and said, "Hell yeah, die like a real man!".
battery mangent placement could have been better ( and other thing's ect. aka im not a complete hater but constructive criticism is something sometimes matters and welcomed my 2C ) as there's a lot of potential space wasted say in the trunk its all batteries now and no real room for real airport luggage 😉 as intended, i know as im working on hybridisation ( Tesla's motor core + tr6070 transmission + 8-3/4@3.2G and RB hemi ) on my 70 charger and im keeping the T-bars unlike him ps. side squirrel idea why didn't he use t-bar's ( F1 use's something similar to it ) on the back it would have saved space and work ok 👌 on the Tesla's subframe
Watched the dash amp gauge go to 1800A when Rich or Stevon floored the accelerator. If the Tesla motor runs at 300v nominally, then we're talking about 540kw or ~725 hp at the rear wheels. That's a muscle car! No wonder the rear wheels break loose.
723.6 HP
I had to do the math hahaha
Thank you!
It's a real shame there's a lot of 'car guys' who completely dismiss EVs! I think things like the Prius (Not even a BEV) gave them all a bad name from years ago. EVs got this perception of being underpowered, can't drive far, and just generally being an econobox.
These days... Imagine someone putting the Plaid powertrain into some classic like this, that'd be an absolute MONSTER.
There's some insane cars, I just wish people gave the platform as a whole a shot, there's a lot to love. It's just different. :)
Big props to Holley for hosting the event, really helps bring the performance aspect to people's attention.
@@VoxelLoop im haft way there as my original, i give in point 🤷♂ was the wife instead that i buy a original equipment coded AC 2G charger so to spoil my family i decided to use electric air/A-C ( and im stuck with having all of the problems and parts might as well take advantage of it 💯 ) ( which ment for me in case having at least 25kw ish 120v+ pack ( for a 2+ hour parking and or car shows ect .) and that point justified using a BEV packaging and not a 1-off parts combo and a big + is i can use it for other accessory's too 😉 ) for the same reasons as the Tesla's do aka for shopping and not coming out to a hot car, that and im using C7 transmission so there was dead space that normally would have been used but i just mated the main out put shaft and the cv driveshaft yoke together useing the hollow/donut 🍩 BEV motor core, as a bonus for it now its the starter and i can do smaller trips in town/moving in the shop/carshow/parking space/lot without acidification of my engine and or 0-40w oil / extra cold start ware ect. and better running costs in town 😉 👍 . sorry just can't do full ev on my charger as it's missing some of the old flavours ect. and i would miss it two much but the 68 mustang convertible i have in the back im game for a full BEV swap ( the drivetrain hasn't been picked out yet unlike my charger and my 80's 1500 im ok with the idea as the local/state/EPA has made some diesel ( and gasoline like using a RB440 v8 TT ) swaps harder to road/tax tag year after year aka getting harder as time goes by and there is benefits to it as the new f150 showed ) as its a mild girly family good handling cruiser sub-80mph/60-10s ish and or looking for the comfy boulevard feeling 🤠
@@richardprice5978 Honestly, out of everything, being able to keep the climate control running when you're in a store or set it off like 10 minutes before you get in is a god-send.
I live in the UK so it's quite cold most of the year, being able to get into a hot car when it's freezing outside feels great. :)
@@VoxelLoop btw the 80's is a 1/2 ton Chevy/GMC long bed single cab just to clarify it and iv had it for 15+years/razed in it. the ev motor's i been looking at are the borg warner HVH255 core and a P100D rear core aka guted the housing/slide it on the mainshaft @ 1:1 gearing ( sorry that i don't have final numbers but it's not 💯done yet as its taking more time than i plan on / life is getting in the way 😉 but i have made good progress on it and the two different motors have different sweet-spots and im leaning towards the newer p100 ect-type / PRM/model-3/y/plaid 💭 ? as its easier for my to find and buy and right now and cheaper as well the downside is less low end torque vs amp's that i need @ 🛑 "S /under 40mph ) and using a different rear end ( say a CVT or ford 2pr3 speed rear end 9" ) some day as opportunities present themselves to me and for now stay with the fixed 3.2FG just to get it backup and running for now on the Denver/slc 🇺🇸 streets ) ( and should make it quickish 0-60 mph but wasn't my ambition to as that was for the econo box side of things but id like not to get ran into 😉 i know confession time but being the 540ci 7.5+L ish 108x114mm-x-v8 engine is easily capable of 1kw/1000+ hp on boost/nitro and no EV/battery help id say its ok and far ) instead of using it like this Plymouth does transversely @ 10:1
When you're driving Someone else's car and the owner looks at you and goes" let's get it" is a beautiful feeling.
This truly was one of the best conversions we’ve piloted. Kevin did a phenomenal job and should really get that rubber issue sorted. That’s how people die of dysentery.
Oh we could tell you loved it! The way you were hammering the poor guy with questions. Be well man 🙏
That was a super cool build thanks for documenting it and bringing it to us people Uncle Rich and Daddy Stevon
Keep them coming Steven. You're showing these muscle car owners more ways to power their ride and still keep it classic. Oh and I hope Rich didn't hog all the stroopwafels.😁
Nice mustache bro
Rich will never be a survival knife guy, he needs a broad sword.
Imagine if car companies went back to the 50's styling with EV components and tech interiors.
Dodge is with their E lineup
Basically the cars from fallout, but not atomic/nuclear power.
I say it all the time. It would be so easy
They can't go back to old style, because of modern regulations. They have to build it to certain specs.
Check out charge cars
"...I wanted to learn something new...."
That earned so much respect from me. Hell Yeah.
So it has the space of a family saloon, comfortable ride, enough range for a daily driver, it looks awesome, all the comfort tech you might need and its fast on a racetrack.
This guy built himself a Rolls Royce Phantom! 😁
Hmm, EV a Rolls?
People that know absolutely zero about cars should not talk.
Kevin was probably one of the nicest guys I’ve met at an EV event. The Electrolite won my heart instantly. Awesome build, awesome builder/owner.
He should have named it DisCharger.

I've been wanting to do this for like 12 years but it just never tickled my tummy enough... The craziest thing is in 6 years from now this battery technology is going to look as classic as this car... It's so huge, there is better energy out there for sure.
Oh absolutely will grow in a decade
@@vanderumd11 I'd say honestly we will see radical changes in all energy tech in 2 years time... We will not have those giant 1200lb batteries much longer.
@@WarpedPerception the reason I don't think that is because look at Tesla. The huge factory and the amount of research they put into the tech. We can't make and build a manufacturing system to roll out something quicker

Uncle Rich you should definitely invite Kevin to the electrified garage and try out some of the stuff you guys made, props to this dude for that DIY project.
Before watching the vid, I was: WHYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Then after watching the vid: That's really a cool mod. I think I was mostly afraid it would've been an half-assed job. But no. It was really well built. Now, if only EV makers could make cool looking cars as this one, instead of their ugly cars!
You have little faith in Uncle Rich???
As an way old time automotive trimmer, I had to notice that the visors were slid onto their rods backwards. The narrow ends are supposed to go to the center to avoid the mirror when flipped down. As he flipped the visors back up the mirror needed straightening. (20:56) Please change them!!! It's driving me nuts!!! Other than that it's a hell of a sweet build. Well done dude! 👍👍👍
It's so funny you noticed! Those were one of the biggest PIA to disassemble/reassemble and I did it backwards! 😆. I assure you they are next on the list.
@@MrMoparMan great work Kevin. btw which motor did you used..?
@@fist003 Thanks, it's a Tesla Model S large sport drive unit. Controller is a T2C from EV controls.
@@MrMoparMan Electrolite is lovely! Lots of love from India! :)
@@IbbiAhmed Thank you, that's very kind!
I remember seeing a group of EV enthusiasts meeting 20ish years ago with their Volkswagon Bugs and Jettas packed with lead acid batteries and home made controllers. It's amazing how far things have come.
I remember those days too! Plenty of Ford ranger conversions too, but yeah all those lead acid batteries.
Yeah, especially amazing when you consider that this car would smoke any diesel or benzene based car.
I'm really digging EV's. I'm mechanically inclined, BUT feel ignorant when it comes to EV's. I'm paying attention and want to learn for sure!
Thanx
You don't need to be a mechanic, you just gotta plug it in when it quits working!
If you’re really interested in EV and want to learn more I really suggest starting with a golf cart. Start with that. The SAME THING applies to cars just scaled up. Very easy and understandable once you have hands on experience. Hope this helps or inspires
@@nickpollay1681 very helpful, thanks
Im the opposite. Im trash at fabricating metal shit, but im good at electrical stuff.
No different than building a computer. Or I should say working on a printer/copier
Great that Rich and Stevon share the love to other builders. Sharing the love, sharing the story, sharing the enthusiasm with another builder. And all with fun along the way. The USP of this channel. I always feel better having watched one of this channel's videos. Greetings from Prague, CZ
The scope and outcome of this build reminds me of the same spirit in the old-school muscle cars. It's just that instead of six packs and cams it's batteries and motors. Great project and even better that the end result isn't just fast but is still usable as a vehicle. An excellent way to keep a classic on the road where it can be seen and enjoyed.
Yes!
He said it's his daily driver.
Ad stereo with muscle car engine sound and go 😜
The cool thing is that classic cars don't have to conform to modern DOT regulations. Makes them ridiculously easy to make them street legal.
I’m betting we’ll see a rich rebuilds classic muscle car conversation after their excitement driving this
I'd like to see him electrify a '66 Mustang!
I get annoyed when a classic gets modified too. But when the quality and engineering is so well done like this, I can really appreciate it. A muscle car that you're not thinking about gas.
"you might want to pull your seat up"
Stevon dies inside 😂
To be fair, he's about 6ft 4. Stay safe, my short kings.

I always dig the effort to make sure to shout out to the folks that deserve it (I mean the mention of Stealth EV). If someone's doing a good job, that should be recognized. Helps the viewers that are potential buyers find businesses deserving of the money, and helps the buyers not get screwed around.
Uncle Rich was right it's truly an amazing build. If I had the money I would do a 70-72 Chevy Malibu EV build.
AS OLD SCHOOL BUILDERS NEAR THE TWILIGHT OF THEIR CAREER, NEWER , YOUNGER BUILDERS TAKE THEIR PLACE.......THIS GUY DESERVES TO CARRY THE TORCH FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE! JUST AWESOME..
Nice restomod. Best part was when he said it was a no-cut restomod.
I see this car get so much hate online but personally I love it. I prefer gas engines but we’ll be able to preserve these classics if we convert them.
This car would be better in a junkyard. Better dead then made into this disgusting cursed heretic build. I hope this car ends up burning down in an electrical fire.
FORD GT40 so rather than preserving classic cars you’d rather them be scrapped because they should have gas engines? As much as I hate electric cars this thought process makes zero sense. Actual car guys would appreciate how much thought went into this build.
@@Marsupial2 I wouldn't destroy it but what is left of the original car in terms of engineering? No engine that was originally engineered and made by the manufacturer. No transmission that would of been paired by the engineers to be the best fit with the engine. Again the engine and transmission would of been chosen to go with the chassis. I'd assume the brakes and suspension will be upgraded. Interior will require new gauges. Wouldn't surprise me that the steering is altered. A completely different powertrain from a different manufacturer and many other non original components. So we are saving the bodywork and chassis. And that's it. Might as well rename it. No association with the original marque and model anymore
Guys...this is the 21st century!
Don't be afraid.
You're using devices to communicate your frustrations that have existed for only 1 generation.
I grew up watching a Black and White TV.
And I was taught to blow the asbestos brake dust all over the garage with compressed air!
Change is good.
Don't be a 25 year old ....old geezer!
@@jstravelers4094 It doesn't have anything to do with change. If they want us to drive electric cars we have no choice. If that's the case bring out new models and create a legacy. If you want an electric muscle car then build a kit car or purchase whatever Dodge etc. make in the future. But please leave alone original cars. Sticking a Tesla motor in it is not preserving the vehicle at all. It's like repainting the Mona Lisa in neon with a moustache and telling everyone to just chill
Sweet! It's also great to ride along when Rich and Stevon drive your car. Rich is so gentle and Stevon drives it like he stole it LOL
This build is so clean. I love the stance and the color combination.

Uncle Rich delivering that much needed car- fix ! 🤤
I am an old school guy and at first it made me mad to see what he had done to a classic but the more I saw about what he did and how he did it I fell in love with the idea. Taking an iconic car and making it electric ensures it will continue to do what it was designed to do, long after the gas guzzlers are dead and gone!
Well if porsche comes out with their eco friendly fuel soon that wont have to be the case
@@nissanpatrol8950 Yea well like all the rest of these eco fuel ideas, if they cant make it affordable it will never make it out of the lab! At a current cost of $37 a gallon, they are a very long way off getting it to go main stream! Keep in mind "soon" is a very over rated timeline and very rarely means what it says!

I'd love to have a electric classic like this one! Beautiful!
Wow! I'm blown away! I loved the shape of the Plymouth Satellite. But I had a Valiant Custom. My best friend bought one used and got it repainted for 79 bucks at Earle Schibe. He had a blast with it and I don't know how he learned to deal with its handling, as is was a pig in turns. I drove it once and the stock suspension was sloppy and useless. Seeing how flat it corners and no front end lift when accelerating, is quite an achievement. Mopar muscle cars ruled in their day for styling. Road Runner, Challenger, Barracuda, etc.
As a kid, I remember these cars and always loved the body style. GREAT conversion. Love it.

Even though it's an EV it still has that old muscle car sound...at least on the interior with all the squeaks, pops and rattles.
Amazing build. Could you imagine taking this back in time to the 70s and showing it to an owner of an original factory Satellite? Pop the trunk and hood and it would blow their minds.
I was the owner of a 1972 Satellite, my first car at 16. The original dash was far better, i cant believe he removed the dashboard light, one of its best features. I do love the electric drivetrain he put in it. My Satellite lasted until 1984, when the transmission was down to 1 gear. I was able drive it to the auto recycler and sell it for $50, then hitchhiked back to my college campus. It was overall a very reliable car, very well built.
Wow... seriously what a phenomenal build. Kudos all the way to you sir.. Phenomenal build.. great attention to detail.. just great!
