@@SalemTechsperts "Commin up slammin Cadillac doors"
Hey Ya Car Wizard
Wizarddddds
Time to EV your yacht... make it happen !😉
It really is stunning how much space the electric motor takes up vs the original ICE setup in these retro builds. Never gets old watching the hood pop and staring into that vast empty space.
Even from the looks, motors have no fascination compared to engines. Totally crazy. Completely bland in every aspect.
Add battery (source of your movement) and converter in 1 place and you receive bigger space than 1976 old V6 engine.
For some reason people only admits electric motor, but not transmition, battery or converter, wiring and rest of important parts, but like to bash ICE on daily basis for having "100500" parts, which is false.
never overestimate EV or underestimate ICE.
want to have both
@@razzor4708 Also weight, EV's can be extremely heavy, especially in ICE platforms.
You can make them lighter but you start losing a lot of range.
Only the longest range EVs match a basic fuel (full) tank in a family car.
EVs have still a long way to go. I'm also worried about the reliability being ruined by planead-obosolescene electronics.
Can't believe I am thinking this , I miss leeedaa
Yep they really could have a huge frunk, surprised they didn't add any batteries in there. I wonder how the weight balance works out?
You finally called her. I'm so proud of you, Stevon.
I am a Cadillac guy through and through… and I love it. We know that 429 big block was probably really tired. Sometimes those old drivetrains take a lot to get up and running properly again… I don’t mind the EV build on it. Thanks Uncle Rich for bringing us the deets
An LS would have been way easier tbh! You don’t need those super heavy underpowered 429 big block….. even a Mercedes’ om606 is great option for more capabilities with the truck also run biodiesel…. 😂 😆
@@carholic-sz3qv Biodiesel is even worse for CO2 and air pollution than diesel bro
@@arthemis1039 who cares
@@arthemis1039 where do you get such stupid infos!? Lol…… biodiesel is litteraly your average oil minus all the particles found in petroleum diesel.
@@carholic-sz3qv I don’t think the easy route is what the builder was going for. Plenty of LS powered mid 60’s Cadillacs out there…. which is pretty ho-hum. LS is so overdone for a repower choice, don’t get me wrong it’s an excellent engine…. But I would rather see the improved 472/500 big block, a built/bulletproofed Northstar, and/or this. I’m sure it scoots it along real good…
wait, that was an ad for leather reconditioning product and i didnt notice till it was over
Stevon. My man. You called her. Amen! 🙏
😅🤣😂
I'd be interested in learning more about how revolt put that battery together
Buy a bunch of cells from Panasonic lol dunno
The old guy at the end when he said does that have an electric motor, he sounded impressed.
I rewound to watch that car launch a few times. It'd be nice to see that whole clip unobstructed!
I've always had a soft spot for these old land yachts and seeing an electrified one is awesome! Its beautiful.
Exactly, a lot of these cars had terrible motors anyway. I can see someone complaining about electrifying a Camaro or Mustang, but a malaise era land yacht is begging for an EV conversion. Quiet, tons of torque, enough batteries for a nice long Sunday drive, and plenty of storage space to take the missus shopping. About the only thing would be safety but meh 4/5 isn't bad!
The Caddy was cool but the truck is perfection. I love the powerplant. I can think of so many cars that I would love to install one it. If I can get 150mi range I am fine with it as a daily driver. There just needs to be an easy way to spread out the batteries so you can balance them throughout the car to get as close to 50/50 weight distribution as possible.
Well there's always under the hood.
@@dontrustwhiteyevery1 That and fire suppression/safety in the event of a crash. As it stands where the battery is situated, it's more likely to shear off the bed or stay in place but give enough space to anyone in the cab to hopefully get out in a roll over crash with the cage they have welded in. Of what I see in most cars, they spread the battery pack along the wheel wells or shove it under/behind the seats. The high mileage cars aside from having a high density battery cells keep the batteries stacked along the bottom of the car with multiple layers of fire retardant insulation etc.
I don't doubt that fire departments have started some suppression training measures for EV fires but it is pretty much a new game so far as fire fighting goes because we just don't have enough accidents to study for the best ways to power down/put out a battery fire yet. For reference on average there have been approximately 213,000 car fires per year. If anything, it actually means safety systems are under utilized in ICE cars AND EV's and as of yet there is no ready accessible way other than fire retardant or extinguishers to prevent/manage them.
Rumor has it Ryan Reynolds’s is Eddie B’s stand in..

did anyone notice how humble these Ev guys are? they are just passionate!
This channel is definitely a game changer for the EV community. Unk Rich and Steven Congrats 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Don't say that too loudly or he'll do another diesel engine conversion to an ev lol.
Agreed 💯
Rich, you need to upload more often , I’ve now watched all your videos from 4 years back! You are awesome, best CZcams channel out there, makes my day every time I see there’s a new video out 👍
Both of the cars are pretty sweet, and I love to hear their stories here. So with all those batteries, that Caddy is even more of a lead sled now.
Rich’s intros are undefeated.😂 that’s what’s being forced upon you.
Them reVolt boys have something special. I hope it only gets cheaper and easier for these swaps for the "average man"
Wish I could have seen and learned more about the Caddy in this video!
That Hillbilly Deluxe drivetrain is the sweetest. That motor is a thing of beauty.
Indeed!
These retro-ev builds are growing on me. Very nice Cadillac! Thanks for sharing.
Vintage EV more like
Thanks gentlemen. Really enjoyed seeing what other companies are offering and what they are creating.
Thank you for showing this car Steven and Rich
I found you through The JRE and I'm so intrigued by your passion and your ability to articulate it for the common man. You sir are an inspiration.
35k for a revon crate motor. Needs to be about 1/4 the price for it to be even consider that build on a working man's salary. Unless you mean 365 days nothing but work for the supplies needed and on the truck. Anyway beautiful truck.
Once the well heeled adopt the tech; prices will fall, give it time...invest now in copper and rear earth metals
Most car resto mods aren't actually done on a "working man's" salary anyhow, unless it's lingering in a garage for years.
35-39k without bms, charger etc. not exactly a working man’s budget there. Maybe in 10 years once we’re flooded with model 3 parts this will be a realistic prospect
It's based on tesla core which is what requires that price....manufacturering needs to catch up
@@uome2k7 yes and my comment was based on what they said about being able to build that truck on a working man's salary.
I don’t watch JRE unless I see the clips on CZcams and it’s really someone I want to watch. Man, your episode was great. Glad you got to get on there and do your thing.
Good stuff man.
I remember just 5 years ago trying to look into these heavier EV conversions and would rarely ever see stuff like this. It would always be the smaller compact (and rarely even anything cool like a 70’s Honda) cars that I’d see get converted.
Even though I’m trying to be less car-reliant, I love seeing this become more and more of an option, especially for out-of-town trips or even rural areas where public transport besides maybe Amtrak can be genuinely hard to accomplish, even with the best planning/funding/whatever.
To be fair, one of your main reasons to try a conversion is your old motor was starting to fail. So a lot of early EV conversions where crappy old cars.
@@Skylancer727 True, though it’s not like bigger cars/trucks don’t have that issue. It would usually be something small that’d get the treatment. Something like an 80’s Lincoln Town Car or a 50’s Caddy were just unicorns in regards to EV conversions.
One of the few guides out there at the time even specifically said to use a car that was:
- Manual
- Less than 2,000 lbs.
- Wasn’t totally new (usually pre-2000’s).
Basically, it had to be a Beetle or an 80’s Civic for optimal effect. It’s also ignoring the annoying big-batteries-in-the-trunk method a lot of conversions used, and well before proper kits like this were being sold.
That’s why the one EV Accord from a few years ago was so fascinating to me: Not only was it impressive, but it used a *bigger* and more common-ish car that was unlike most EV conversions beforehand. It’s becoming less and less needed to shell out a bunch of money (and miles) to get the one cool project car that’s both good for conversions and unique/old enough to have. Stuff like my high school dream EV conversion (an 80’s town car, which are quite common in my region, converted to EV) is now becoming more and more possible!
@@keybyss98 honestly, I think the trunk battery is a decent enough solution. It's basically the cheap option requiring way less over working and you also don't need it water proofed. Most cars have open bottoms and rather poor sealed fronts so the batteries need weather proofing. So I think it is a solution, just not a quality one.
Amazing conversion! The analogue instrument panel is fantastic, so much better than digital touchscreens.
That truck but a carpeted ‘frunk’ to put your shopping in would be awesome! …Maybe lay out the cells so that they fit under the bed or under a false floor in the bed too.
You could just put them where the gas tanks used to be. I would split them up and put some under the hood, too, for weight distribution.
As an.old man who approves of land yachts, thank you for this outstanding episode. I've often wondered what the cost would be to electrify my Lincoln Town Car. Shout out to Rich for not eating a stroopwafel in that gorgeous Cadillac. You know what happens if you replace the st in stroopwafel with a p? That's right.
Proopwafel?
@@DiscoFang pronounced with the correct accent.
OMG I'm so happy I saw you on JRE. Wow old school Cadillacs are my all time favorite all time. my father had a 1978 coupe deville, 1983 eldorado Biarritz, 1991 fleetwood brougham, and 1996 sedan deville. ALL OF THEM WERE SAME MAROON COLOR. I failed my driver test in the long ass sedan deville. I couldn't parallel park that behemoth. lol. good times.
That square body is a true sleeper and the custom fabricated parts in the rear end is totally bad ass... Uncle Rich get that 5 cent royalty check
Hands down this is my favorite show on CZcams! Uncle Rich and Esteven are the funniest! Great work fellas!
I was 9 years old when my Mom bought a brand new 1966 Cadillac convertible Aqua metallic black interior my fave Caddy!
The white Caddy Tesla version is so totally beautiful and impressive! Thanks so much for the ride and the memory Mr Yoga pants🥮
These old barges are a great place for some regenerative braking. And the crazy torque with no real need for top end is a good fit for electric as well, haha
Those Revolt motors are super nice looking. $34k buy in is pretty steep though....
$34K buys a bunch of gas. I'd love to ev swap one of my cars but the cost exceeds just buying a used EV.
@@quademasters249 Lucid will make a killing if they start selling their tiny 600hp motors to the general public. I'd buy one... Or two...
@@Rollin8.0 It's a tiny niche of a tiny niche. Of the small number of muscle car owners, you need to sell to an even smaller group who want to trade their V8's, one of the primary reasons for owning a muscle car, for a whisper quiet ev motor.
I'm sure they can sell some. Whether they can sell enough to sustain a company is an open question. $34K is just the entry price too. Then you have to pay for everything else like the battery and charging electronic. I notice most of these cars don't have AC or Heats too.
I'd rather install a crate LS for 1/3rd the price
Plenty of good products died because they cost too much for people to buy in. Ultimately you're talking about spending $50K to convert an old not particularly good car into an EV. Losing heat and AC in the process.
Man salute to you guys for featuring builds like that Caddy. Very very nice build . Salute to Mr Ward for sharing that Ice Cold Caddy. Great episode.
Love the Legacy EV Caddy! I built an electric board track racer with them last year. Great guys!
Rich... Or Mr. Richard... Just wanna Say Thank you for video's.. pull me out of dark place in life an help me laugh an your very original love learning new things..an you don't try copying people ur blessing my guy 🙏
That mother of pearl steering wheel is the most Cadillac thing I've ever seen.
You could put a solar panel on the hood damn that car is massive
The "ducks" in the Cadillac logo were a big part of the original Caterra marketing campaign "The Caddy that zigs". In the ads, one of the ducks (named Ziggy) would pop out of the logo and face in the opposite direction. The ducks were removed in the 2009 update of the logo and the wreath was removed in 2014. Cadillac said becuase the logo kept getting bigger due to larger grilles on cars, the ducks and wreath looked awkward when the logo was made larger.
Would love to make this car meet in my SOLO but it would be one hell of a trek
That Revolt is rad. Good stuff. I might be able to own a truck again with a kit like that.
Beautiful Caddy. Even nicer big portal frame shed, I'm jealous. I sold mine, still grieving, LOL.
So happy to hear my old High School, James Madison home of the Warhawks!!!! In San Diego doing the ev race car rebuild!!!! They do have a new awesome auto shop now!!!
Needing a calculator to convert from inches to feet, cracks me up everytime. Would be easier to measure everything in hotdogs!
Man i wish I had that level of skill to build something like this
Straight cut gear whine on the caddie made it sound like an old forklift
If tesla made a Cadillac, it would look exactly like every other tesla and you would have issues telling it apart.
Cadillac is already making EVs, all you have to do is look at that, lol.
@@jaydlytning Yeah the Celestiq looks amazing!
Seeing these conversions, I would be tempted to do my '05 Jeep LJ.
currently the only limitation is battery energy density. In the next 5-10 years you will certainly be able to purchase a cheap swap
Go ahead its junk anyway
@@alwaysbadideas What's going to be changing energy density wise in the next 5-10 years? Lithium is lithium - there isn't going to be any magical boost of energy density. There hasn't been much of a change at all with lithium in it's entire lifetime (unless you're an Elon fanboi and believe his "we made the battery store 70% more power (because we made it 70% bigger)" "density improvement" BS)
@@alwaysbadideas Good point. No rush to do it now, but it would be something I’d try out as EV tech continues to advance.
That Caddy EV is hard never seen a cleaner ride huge thumbs up!
I like these segments. There are a lot of small startups with innovative ideas. They should interview Roborace.
People thought 4 cylinders were being forced on them in the late 70s and early 80s. Everyone thought the v8 was dead. 40 years later the V8 is still here.
Point is, gas vehicles will be around a long time.
I drive EVs but its going to take a lot of time.
Exactly, nobody says you can't get an old shell (or a new one, they still make popular body in white muscle cars) and throw in a junk yard (or shiny crate) motor, and still have fun on weekends at the strip or road course with some synth-fuel, then drive the BEV commuting appliance to work, where most people spend 99% of their driving time anyway.
If we don't run out of petroleum underground, gas engines will be around for a long time. EV is still in its infancy and I live in a very hot weather and the batteries don't last here in Vegas! I love EV technology but I also love the sound of gas engines! Sounds like I want a hybrid muscle car. 😆
Raw oil can be produced less then two weeks. Earth will never run out of oil as recycling methods get better.
Prove it
There's no practical reason we can't have ICE vehicles around a long time but they are being legislated out of existence
That angelic “aaahhh haaaah aahaaa” track was from the tv show doug.
I'd imagine that if this Caddie were around when old people were young, at this level of package, they wouldn't mind one bit. What's to hate? Charge it from the plug, decent range, and it's quiet as a whisper. Upper class folk wouldn't even so much as whimper thinking about it. No maintenance is a big bonus.
If I remember correctly. Wasn't that what they were trying to achieve!
It's got half the range of the standard car and costs 20 times as much.
It's getting hate because it's a downgrade.
Guys this caddy is absolutely freaking awesome. I love it.
The battery mounting on the truck is pretty neat. That's always been my question mark for a lot of conversions I've had in my head.
Nope..just no. If the powerplant can be between the framerails...so can the batteries. They said they removed both fuel tanks somthere literally is a huge amount of room under the truck. Stupid to give up the bed. Also, put in trunk floor of somekind like in the new Hummer. AND DEFINATELY DO MORE BODYWORK! That was just half assin it!
You guys find / build the coolest cars
Forget the Caddy, I'm digging the rat rod truck. It would make a heck of an EV ute.
Rich what a work of art🤓. Beautiful car converted in future tech.
That Caddy was freaking gorgeous
HBD was fantastic. Loved his presentation/explanation. That guy is a role model👍
"You know they say black don't crack" 😂😂😂😂😂 I was not ready
One day automakers will understand we want retro style electric cars. Like the truck concept from Ford
They don't care. They'll give you what their designers want or compliance cars that satisfy Cali and EU nanny states.
Allmost all cars today basically look like jelly bean sedans based on the 2001 BMW 235 basic body. Toyo and Honda are starting to add silly tailfins on the corners to look different...but then everyone else will too. A wind tunnel and South Korean body shop produce the same styles.
That's why gearheads are now on trucks. Cars are all the same. Trucks still had some variety in 2019...but when they stared advertising their fancy tailgates as their only distinctive feature...I knew trucks were headed for the washing machine vanilla factory too.
Eventually the F150, Ranger, Maverick, Tacoma, GMC, Dodge, Rivian will all look alike with EV drives or GasElectric. The F150-Rivian box. Cyber Truck will be a yuppie hipster status wierdmobile for office drones and weekend cruisers like the SSR was.
Vehicles are just becoming appliances. Once you aren't allowed to actually drive them, they will just be rented....because they have become inefficient mass transit.
Definitely the future of the Automotive culture. I'm glad to see the new meet the old and co-exist in peace. EVs are here. They're here, and they're not going anywhere.
That caddy ev conversion is my dream build. I’ve always that, early 60’s Lincoln continental, or a early 70’s lincoln mark III or town car… really almost any of the land yachts from the old days
A Lincoln Continental with the suicide doors would be the shit.
Almost done the pod rn man it’s a good show! Looking forward to you guys doing it again in another 2-3 years 🤙🤙
Came for the Cadillac… stayed for the truck
That caddy's nice but the real winner for me is the truck. I'd love to get a truck like that as my daily drive.
Rich still going crazy with the vids 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It was great to see you guys again. Great video.
If you don’t know about the Ducks, you’ve never seen the Catera commerical
Amazing, Rich. I came for the Caddy (my dream) but the pickup blew me away. I want. And you're right: rust free old pickups are rare beasts here in the NE.
Rich this has inspired me to build an ev now and I’m a gas guy. I have a supercharged camaro with 700 whp but these rides you posted go hard and Sonoma is my home track so you basically filed this in my area.
The best thing about enthusiast. Their enthusiasm
Thumbs up for the cruise control trivia.
This is pretty much the only way I want to experience these older cars anymore. It's not like anybody ever keeps the engines stock to begin with.
I started putting strait 6's in 2 of my 69 trucks before I got sicker. But I need that electric motor in my 68 c10
I don't like the way Revolt Systems made the mount, it's too close to the center of the motor, under real driving conditions I see that eventually twisting or distorting the frame where the bracket mounts and also loosening the bolts that mounted to the actual motor housing,. This should be a solid wider CNC bracket. But that's one beautiful caddy.
I think they’re should be rubber bushings if it doesn’t have any yet, but those mounts would hold a 500lbs engine making the same hp. Even with that over hang.
If they got some real investment, this system would be a DYI hit..
This actually work really well for this car when I think about a Cadillac I usually think of a quiet luxurious ride always been a fan of the coupe deville
Not sure I agree with the battery and fuel analogy. An empty battery is a fuel tank. The battery charge (energy) is the fuel (energy) in the fuel tank.
as a firm believer in IC engines, im a hard sell rich, but youre getting my attention
Yes!
This hillbilly deluxe is what I want to build!
Maybe not quite as high performance.
But I want to take an old truck and turn it into an electric
Yep, just for weekend work. Don't need big battery or speed.
I've been drooling over this ideal every since I seen that guy with the white Mazda mini truck(early 2000's)...🤔 but for some reason cannot find that video anymore and I and I had it saved on on my CZcams channel.
But yeah I want to do this with my 68 c10.

This car is nothing short of amazing. I love all of the cool stuff you do on this channel ICE and electric. On the electric side I would like to see more of what makes these cars drivable. Heating, AC, and Power Steering. Outside of sunny California it gets cold, hot and humid.
You should search up the Electric Classic Cars channel here. He has a bunch of videos about how they replace all the accessories on EV conversions.
