- Julie (Wendy Schaal) has inadvertently made a deal with the Devil (Roddy McDowall) and has to get Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) involved to save her. So, he decides to take her place.
From Season 5, Episode 2 'The Devil and Mr. Roarke/Ziegfeld Girls/Kid Corey Rides Again' - Mephistopheles uses Julie to force Roarke into another confrontation; elderly Joan Michaels and Ruby Rogers relive their Ziegfeld Follies days; and Brooklyn shoe salesman Ned Plummer travels to the Old West to meet outlaw Kid Corey.

I was a busboy back in the days in L.A restaurant and Montalban was a regular and I have to say he was a class act all the way and always treated you like a VIP, and was a good tipper , his wife was very humble too. Miss those good old days

Fwiw, I appreciated everyone's efforts, but this series was hardly great TV. Looking back, the camp aspect was obviously something I missed the first time around.

Disagree, Lord Love a Duck was a cringey actor unworthy of wearing even the embarrassingly cringey Rock Hudson's loafers.
Roddy McDowell was a beautiful man!
McDowell and Montalban were good friends in real life and you can tell the times they played together they seem to be hamming it up and having fun.
From what I have read there wasn't a single person in "Hollywood" that did not love McDowell.
They were both in Planète of the Apes, Caesar and Armando
They became the best of friends when they worked in the Planet of the Apes sequels in the 70s. I heard it was McDowell who personally asked him to be interviewed for the documentary on the Apes film series in the 90s.

Eh, it was pretty brainless a lot of the times, and some of the episodes are embarrassingly inane. It was harmless, though, and there are plenty of less-cringey episodes where you can just switch your brain of and enjoy some frothy, substance-free fun.
That "Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays" line had me rolling! 🤣🤣🤣
Fantasy Island was one of the great TV shows of my youth. Two actors of exceptional skill through their careers. This was an excellent scene to demonstrate their ability. Now I want to see the conclusion of this episode 🙂.

Classic Ricardo mistake - he’d beaten the devil, demonstrated his intellectual superiority, he didn’t need to beat him again. But the devil tasked him, and he shall have him.

Ricardo Montalban was epic incarnate. Those two acting that scene made my skin tingle. What raw power and presence. Few modern day actors can command such gravitas! And all that in a simple TV show from so long ago. Amazing.
And that is how the start of the fantasy island movie started.

I’ve been a member at the LA Arboretum for 25+ years . I stroll through there frequently. The Victorian home is there and always reminds me with each visit ,of a scene out of fantasy island.

Mr. McDowell is one of my favorite actors. From his early works in My Friend Flicka, Batman, Planet of the Apes to his various positions on the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Selection Committee for the Kennedy Center Honors.

Roarke gave Juile his soul before they went to meet with the Devil. I used to watch the reruns of this show on Nick at Night or Classic TV with my late grandma.
And that was it for Roarke. End of series. 🤣🤣🤣

To finish the scene, Julie had a contact, in which she owned Mr. Roarke’s soul, and he was saved because the Devil didn’t claim his share by midnight.
What we didn’t see was that two days later, Julie, in a hostile takeover of Fantasy Island, relinquished her claim to Mr. Roarke’s soul, hence the devil’s claim took first priority.
Roarke was claimed by the devil, Julie took over Fantasy Island, and Tattoo was imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit.
It was a very dark series finale.

Season 5 episode 2 is how it is listed, but maybe it was shown out of sequence?
I saw this entire episode when it first aired, and none of what you described happened: the devil lost big time.
