A pair of newlyweds leases the house next door to the Addams family. But the honeymoon loses its tranquility when Uncle Fester enters their house through a tunnel. I can't get over how elegant Mrs. Addams is. She makes everything sound so regal and smooth even if it is something deadly. She's such a caring mother and great all around person and so open minded and kind and it's amazing. A true hero.

Carolyn Jones was spectacular as Morticia. She gave her so much grace, warmth, sexiness, elegance, and a sense of fun. And that voice, perfection.

Yes! In my experience people like that are the kindest, most open minded accepting people around. It's a shame that "good" judgemental people sometime label them as satanic, just because they wear black, like serial killers, listen to metal and aren't freaked out my the concept of death.
I think that is very significant. Weird doesn't have to be bad. It's just their good intentions are weird to other people. Different standards. But, they show so much respect for the difference. Whereas the normal ones don't.

i mean seriously... they've got to be the most solid couple i've ever seen. they deal with their problems head on, respect each other, love each other and share in all that they do with out losing themselves in the process.

The neighbors from nextdoor was the ideal couple for most of the 1900s and that kind of perfect kitsch lifestyle is frankly unachievable for most people, even then. So idk why old people are so surprised it didn't work out that families are the way they are now lol.
The only family really close to the Adaams family is the Brady family, who (I think) did a good job of showing a loving and functional household and marriage- but you know, they still had a maid and a huge two story house. The average american wasn't ever gonna have that back then, so they would watch these shows and then people would be all disastisfied and crazy and just get a divorce instead of being realistic.

They were the ideals, White picket fence, starter home, married in a nice neighborhood and perfectly normal with the man being able to support the two of them and probably kids too.
However they were in an unhappy relationship with him not consulting her on where to even live? And dragging her into a whole mess with the Addams. Ignoring her wishes for a beautiful wedding day that will definitely build some resentment.
Morticia and Gomez are the most healthy couple that has EVER been portrayed on television probably in all of media, yet are so "out there" that people at the time barely noticed, in fact from what I've observed of older couples them being as close as they were probably contributed to the idea that they were "odd" and "weird."
And meanwhile the other couple have been married about five minutes and hate each other already!
Why admire Joker and Harley Quinn? Morticia and Gomez are way better

Supportive and passionate to an extreme, trying to be helpful to others, thinks only the best of others, polite and classy, and other than into morbid things, they’re healthy.

Suspicious and gossipy, thinking of the worst of others, argumentative and judgmental with themselves, to the point where they have to convince themselves they love each other. They maybe “normal” but they kinda represent everything wrong with the American ideal family.

I’m honestly not looking forward to the new movie. It just can’t be nearly as good as the originals.
@@saturnsghost The new animated film isn't that bad. Not as good as the live action films, and especially not as good as the original TV series. I think one guy said it best in another episode's comment section. The appeal about the Addams family is that they believe they're normal, but they're actually uniquely dark. The problem with a lot of the movie adaptations is that many of them tend to focus more on the aspects of them to make them way more edgier than they ever were on the show.
However, I think the new movie is OK though. Yeah, it rips off a lot of story elements from "Hotel Transyvania" though in that they use the Addams family movie as an allegory for racism in society, and tries to teach the moral lesson that no matter how different someone is that doesn't make them any less of a person than you. And the fact that they make the reason why both Wednesday and Pugsley are homeschooled initially is because both Gomez and Morticia fear they wouldn't be accepted by the outside world, which is eerily similar to what happened in Hotel Transylvania when Dracula kept trying to keep his daughter away from the outside human world for the exact same reasons.

Wednesday was so different in the original show. She was still strange like her family, but she wasn't dark and angry sounding. She sounded kinda... Polite.
I prefer this Wednesday really. Gomez and Morticia would have raised her to be quite polite and considerate despite their macabre tendencies instead of the monotonous, grey girl in recent adaptations.

The fact that Carolyn loved this character so much she kept everything. Her dress, wig, her wicker chair… I was always kept in her room until the day she died. I wish her and John could have been together outside the show, but she died knowing how he really felt all long and he found that out too. I love that they got their backstage kisses when the 60’s era shows wouldnt allow people to kiss on the lips in television. Doesn't sense since they allowed John to kiss hey whole body… but a peck on the lips is out of the question. They were too sweet and their affection on camera was groundbreaking during this time period.

I've always considered the *Addams + the Munsters* two of the most _kindest, tolerant, and accepting_ groups of people, and had always wanted to live with either family as a young child.
As an adult now, I still do. In a world full of _ordinary people_ , they were the ones who were truly _special_ because they harbored none of the 7 _Deadly Sins_ which the rest of us are guilty of - they were all "pure of heart + mind" and nothing they ever did was sneaky, underhanded, hateful nor evil.
All I know is : If they were my _neighbors_ , I'd be over their house every single day!
Totally agree about your take on the Addams. But The Munsters were actually very prejudiced against others and kind of snobby even with Marilyn, who was a doll yet her own family always openely considered her not as "gracious" as them.

I think it's good there were only two seasons. The entire premise was based on one joke: The Adams, blissfully unaware of how odd they are, freaking out a "normal" couple with their weirdness and being perplexed why.
Had it gone longer than 2 seasons, that joke would have worn very thin. Indeed it tends to wear a bit thin if you binge-watch the show.
Golden rule of entertainment: always keep them wanting more. Had The Adams Family gone for 4 or 5 (or mroe) seasons, we'd be bored and unimpressed.

One of the other two best one side like I hope MGM puts up is: when they go on I think it was a second honeymoon or to go see a hurricane. And instead of leaving the children with Uncle Fester and Mama the hire this sort of Nanny.. and this upset Western mama and they threw her out.. and that ain't reprimanded Morticia and Gomez for pulling that stunt on them.. at the very end that playing volleyball right in the living room and then hurricane Fifi or Gaza strikes it's Thunder. And the everyone yells out fifi or gaza and Morticia tells everybody go outside. That episode was so cute
Years and years ago in the late 1970s I was watching this particular re-run with my mother and she said, "You know, they really are very kind and lovely people." I answered, "This is the best show on television . . . Why did I say that?" But re-watching this, I really do think this is the best show TV produced ---- "Do you mind if I smoke?"

I love the Addams family, but it WOULD be pretty dangerous to live on the same street as them.
I think they'd keep themselves to themselves if they were a real family, to be honest. They seemed hospitable too..even if they offered something to eat or drink that we'd find gross or unusual 😬😄

We live in a world where MGM, a massive studio, couldn't manage to upload this episode without glitches, and yet the DVD release is flawless.
However with the discs you won't hear Carolyn Jones singing "It's so nice to have a Thing around the house"; that's been jettisoned, it even says so on the DVD's insert. I guess it's about music rights. Silly but what can you do.
