  • This video shows the basic body before the back, paper maché and paint are applied. The cardboard can easily be substituted with EVE foam, to save you having to go through the paper maché process.For more detailed photos and information on how to get this far, please, like, follow and view the pictures on our Facebook page. Thank you.Sorry for poor sound.

    So I've just finished my cardboard armatures and now I'm ready to start the paper maché. I do have a few questions though - What kind of paper and paste did you use? How did you keep your final project looking so smooth? Did you have a specific method of applying the paper maché? Did you use strips of paper, or smaller pieces?
    Thanks for your help! I'm making two shells for my boys (4 and 6) for Halloween. They are over the moon!

      hello. The paste is used was a mixture of PVA glue and water at a ratio of roughly 2 parts glue to one part water. The paper was just newspaper, ripped, not cut into squares of various sizes from 2" to 3". If you cut the paper with scissors it can leave the edge showing more when the glue dries, but the ripped edges blend better. As for a smooth finish, well, if you follow the first two parts to this answer and put plenty of glue down and over the paper pieces, overlapping them as you go, you should get the same result. Good luck for Halloween. The clock is ticking. :)

    ? when you put on the paper mache on the shell was the glue water down or did you keep the glue thick ?

    I'm confused. Is the bottom piece all one piece? or did you cut them out and glue them back together? Also, how do you attach the front piece? (the piece with the straps) does it just stay on with hot glue?

    • @thecardboardpropcompany949
      @thecardboardpropcompany949  Před 9 lety

      it is 10 separate pieces all bent and curved over my knee then glued together to create the domed turtle shell shape. The front piece with the straps is hot glued in place then paper mache over the top to seal it. There are loads more detailed pictures on the Facebook page of the same name as this channel. :)

      Thanks for responding! I did see the facebook photos, but I wasn't quite sure what was going on, might I suggest that you add a link to your facebook/G+/other platforms on your CZcams channel? (It would also probably be helpful to add it to the video descriptions in your case) ;)

      hi
      you make the the base first. Then glue the smaller segments over the top of these and then paper mache over the top. If you go to my Facebook page The Cardboard Prop Company, there are loads if more detailed photos on that. :)

    Can I get a link for the file so I can easily cut out

    • @thecardboardpropcompany949
      @thecardboardpropcompany949  Před 10 lety +1

      hello. There is no link as it was all scratch built. The first part of the video shows the inside, which starts off as hexagonal pieces of card mould over my knee to form a concave shape all hot glued together, with the outer piece edges cut to form the elliptical shell shape. The top layer that covers these to form the final look of the shell are similar pieces to the first layer but cut slightly smaller to leave a gap between them for some definition when glued on. I hope this helps. G

      @thecardboardpropcompany949  Před 8 lety

      +Angel Soler Thank you. Don't you want to have a go at making yourself? There is a step by step guide on our Facebook page, which explains everything in great detail. For you to start from scratch and have to buy a glue gun, glue sticks, knife, paints, paint brushes, straps, buckles and whether you used free to obtain cardboard, or used EVA floor mats for the shell, it would still work out cheaper, than me building one for you, and be a lot more fun too. This is why I made this video in the first place, as I thought the ones in the shops where to pricey for what you get.

      @thecardboardpropcompany949  Před 8 lety

      +Angel SolerSorry. if you get stuck you can always ask. If you made it out of EVA floor mats it would be quicker, lighter, ad take out the boring time consuming papier mache stage, filling all the edges in. The acrylic paints work on the foam also.
