I wish you had shown some of the painting techniques, I am dying to make one for my Halloween costume this year (yea it's a bit early!), and I'm rubbish at painting this kind of thing. Ps you have one lucky kid!!

hi Zoe600smile. I am currently making 2 more for my niece and nephew, so when i get to the painting stage i will film that a stick it on here. Trust me, you hardly do any painting.... it's not difficult, or I wouldn't be doing it. :) You could follow my Facebook page The Cardboard Prop Company for more updates on the progress on the shells. I have 1 built and nearly covered with paper maché and will be starting on the second soon. Thanks again G :)

Loved the look of this and going to an "under the water" themed party so attempted to make my own!

I'd like to know your paper mache technique because i still see the complete texture of the cardboard thru the paint. Im looking to make an adult size shell within the week!

hi. the pva glue to water mixture is 2 parts pva to 1 part water. apply the mixture to the cardboard, then apply the torn newspaper square over the top the n apply more glue mixture. Repeat process, overlapping the paper. use plenty of glue mixture and leave it to dry 24 hours.

Make sure you use thick cardboard. If you use the thin cardboard, it wont have dimension. Also, use a GOOD hot glue gun. If you use the cheap stuff, you will have a hard time gluing everything together.

How did you get the top and bottom pieces together? Mine won't stay :( :( :(

hello. I just hot glued them together. There are some supports inside the shell that hold it together a little more, but it was just hot glue, nothing special. If you're on Facebook, then go to The Cardboard Prop Company Facebook page...on there you will find more detailed pictures in the album section . Hope this helps. :)

Hello. If you pop over to our Facebook page, there is a full detailed step by step photo album there, which will show you how to construct the shell. You can always swap the cardboard for EVA foam and save having to papier maché it before painting.
