I think it’s more than seeing dominance (like width/curve/vertical) and more about does the feature need to be accommodated for. I relate to your mother in that I have strong shoulders but I don’t need to accommodate for them. I do need to honor my vertical. For me this system helps me think about styling options/breaking rules more than limiting and following rules. I love it!

Your mom and my mom have a very similar frame! I also think she's DC because the clothes for DC works the best for her (also my mom definitely has a couple of looks like the last outfit of your mom, mid length skirt with a sweater. Also think she has the same style roots.
On oversized sweaters, what my mom sometimes wears that usually works, is a long open sweater (not oversized), so you can keep the midwaist with the clothes under it, like a shirt and a skirt. Sometimes, for it to be more chic, she has a brooch on chest level to pull the too sides of the open sweater together.
I always love how put together yet effortless my mom looks, she figured out what works for her a long time ago.
I'm a FN, and in my puberty my mom tried to get me some clothes, but most of her clothes looks so different on me and don't work the same on me, even through we are the same height. The biggest difference I've noticed is that the right size clothes works wonders for her, yet I often need to wear clothes a size bigger for it to look effortless on me.

So curious if you would change anything about the way that you styled your mom, based on your new body-typing system. Wondering if you would consider her "medium" in your system.

Hi Ellie, do you plan to continue your shorts series of style roots combination? I guess it's lot of work, but I've notice you have a break from this topic. Are you planning to go back?

It would be so fun if you try to create outfits that look great with yours mum body type out of elements of this "terrible" look.

I watch your channel regularly, but sadly i do not seem to see what others see.. i don't know if that's the angle you filmed at or none of the result outfits really compliment your lovely mom.

And now I'm confused. The resulting outfit is what I imagine the Natural style to be, from the descriptions and illustrations i have come across. Except with a more open collar.

To me you both look petite! I'm not sure about what Kibbe rules there are for this, but what is "average" varies between different countries, and in my experience there are a lot of Gamine types in the UK, so average there and what then looks "moderate" is not the same as average here where I live, in a Nordic country.
I'd type you Ellie as Soft Gamine and your mother Anji as a Flamboyant Gamine, and I think that is why that wavy striped shirt looks so good on her! I think FG are the ones that best pull off that boxy cut, I understand it's not her style and I don't know her, but personally I'd love to see her in a 60's empire waist structured fabric shift dress, or the skirt equivalent to go with that sweater.

Thanks for a great video Ellie- Jean. You’ve really explained the thought process well for the before outfit.
I think I’m a dramatic classic but your shopping checklist has now confused me because you say mid to low rise but I prefer high rise (my torso is long whilst people say my legs are long). I am frame dominant except for my bottom and thighs (which are more flesh dominant). I do not have big eyes or a relatively small head to be gamine. Is it possible that my classic essence is confusing me when typing my body type? I don’t think I’m a full fledged dramatic (or SD) because I can get overwhelmed by long outfits.

I’m just learning about Kibbee so take my comment with that in mind. I see your point but personally I didn’t like the blue with white stripe top on your mom. Here is my reason, the strong white line across her shoulders made me look there instead of her face as her shoulders are already strongish. I think that no matter what you wear the emphasis should draw the eye to a persons face not one particular area of their body. At least that’s where I want people to look when they are looking at me. Just my opinion.

She looks like a Natural. The thing of dramatic classics is that they gain most of their weight in their thighs and ass and hips but your mom is more shoulder heavy not bottom heavy. But you sound so sure. The whole definition of Naturals are the are shoulder dominate.
I saw kibbe classify a woman you moms age and there type is different

I was prepared to be irritated by this video, but it was a pleasant surprise. I swear, if I have to watch one more young style/fashion vlogger in her 20s - early 30s gaslight her audience about how certain clothes that absolutely do make you look "frumpy" or "off" don't actually do that, it's all in your mind, silly. Reality doesn't actually exist on my channel, lol! Or how they constantly seem to believe that middle aged women REALLY want to dress the same as 20 year old women and we cry into our pillows at night because we can no longer wear mini skirts and corset tops because people might frown at us (no, it can't be that we're over it because we like to bend over whenever we want without giving a show, etc.). If middle aged women were just told by some plucky young vlogger that they CAN wear a mini skirt, if we were just given the right peptalk, we will wear all of the things! Except, wait, not that, don't wear THAT because you're not wearing your 90s or early 2000s fashion how we wear it nooooooooow. Blah blah giant pile of horse poo blah.
I would actually watch style/fashion vloggers my own age, if every one of them I stumbled across wasn't doing quiet luxury or something similar. I mean, you do you, but you're doing a "you" that isn't me so... off to see what the kiddos are doing, gaslighting and all.
I digress. Sorry, but I really needed to get that out in a comment section that might be able to relate and would be able to feel my pain. It can't just be me. I'm tired, so it's refreshing to see a younger style/fashion vlogger not do that.

I’m so sorry you’ve had these bad experiences! It sounds very frustrating 😞 It’s funny how what’s online doesn’t always reflect what we see in real life. Most fashion videos are for young people but we all wear clothes. And while I’m in my 20s almost all the people I actually know that are my fashion inspirations are older than me! Most are elderly. Their styles are vastly different from each other but they’ve all figured out what’s important to them in their clothes (which usually takes time). Whether it’s monochromatic outfits in their favourite colour, prioritising what’s flattering on them, very practical dress, classic looks, or throwing aside convention and practicality almost entirely it’s so clear that they’re happy in their clothes and as themselves and that’s always inspiring 😍
While I started imitating my grandmothers out of sentimentality, I quickly realised they know so much about style even though neither of them were ever interested in fashion. I thought athleisure was comfortable, but when I tried pants like my grandma’s I realised I’d been wrong. She was more elegant and I never understood why she dressed up just to stay home. I thought it must be uncomfortable 😅 But in reality she was living in the height of comfort at all times!!! And my other grandma began wearing fanny packs decades before young people made them a trend recently. To this day she’s still the most practical person I know, I should’ve known it was worth trying long before it was trendy. I still dress like a younger person due to my own preferences but I’ve learnt my lesson about overlooking older women’s fashion. I wish there were more style videos tailored to other ages online because it’d be nice for people in those age groups of course!!! But selfishly I’d be there to learn all your secrets đŸ€ I’ve looked around and I did learn from it but like you said there’s a lot of quiet luxury etc. which is fine but it gets repetitive.
