Nice cheerful piece. The best thing about Christopher Ward is that you can tell the month and year of manufacture simply by looking at which logo is on the dial.

Have this exact CW. It's so gorgeous it literally made me curse loudly for about 5 minutes when I unboxed it for the first time. I love it. It's fun, gorgeous, well built, exquisitly finished, and can be dressed up or down. Some watches just feel special to me and this one has that "X" factor for me personally. Another great review as always Evan.
Most modern super-compressor cases are just for show (JLC Polaris, Longines Legend Diver, IWC Aquatimer etc) as modern seals negate the need for these complex cases. So I applaud CW for making one of these supposedly working super-compressors.
Super-compressors went the way of the Dodo due to one fatal flaw - they often leaked if the diver did not descend into the water quick enough during a dive as the shallow depths don't produce enough pressure for the cases to work. Quite an interesting piece of trivia for a pub quiz ...🙊

    • @jamesblonde2271
      @jamesblonde2271 Před rokem

Well that and the fact that the rubber for gaskets improved and the "super compressor" effect can be achieved bythe Blancpain/Vostock ring shield back and deformable acrylic glass solution, that Finnish channel took a standard Vostock Zisou to 800m+. I' did a post once about how that famous Vostock engineering "solution" came out at the same time Blancpains patents for the ring/shield caseback lapsed, (they stopped actually using them before the 60's bagan) Like other watch myths, did you know for instance Blancpain did not invent the tourbillion, Omega invented the dive watch and the first watch is space was a Sturmanskie, also Seiko is the second oldest watch company in the world after VC?

      I have to respectfully disagree...
The logo argument has been rumbling for years and France, doing what France does best, completely ignored it.
As for innovation, I think the range over the past few years has consisted of more and more blatant copies than at any time in their history. Prices have gone up dramatically, QC and CS has deteriorated ( especially since Wera left), so they're a brand that I've grown away from.
Maybe the colab with Fears will interest me or the rumoured minute repeater.

As they grow in subscribers, many youtubers move up market with their reviews and end up focusing solely on watches in the > $3000 price range or various micro brands that they get paid to review. Which is fine, but misses out on a lot of cool watches. With this true compressor case, this is an example of a cool watch that some other guys wouldn’t ever do, which is a shame.

Then you have their luxury pieces which are frankly mind blowing and represent I think even better value. So with the C60 Apex LE they partnered with Armin Strom to do a skeletonised version of their INHOUSE SH21 movement and they even BLUED the BRIDGES! For only $4300 USD... Lunacy. They only made 100 of them but I'd take one of them over a $30k Omega Sea Master. I really would.

To get this clear. If a manufacturer offers a watch for being able to take 30bar, no costumer fools himself if he expect this watch to take a least 50 meters easily or for example a jump of 10 meters height into water which can cause high pressures easily. The only fool is the one who thinks that a watch being a mechanic one is a good excuse to expect nothing.
I like to wear expensive watches also in my vacations. I understood that a room safe in a Hotel isn’t a safe option. So I needed a watch that could withstand 30 to 40 meters of free diving. At the same time, I don't need a diving watch for my more or less unambitious free diving. I know my abilities and the possibilities that result from them. So it doesn't necessarily have to be a diving watch, just a very capable sports watch. It was just a matter of not being able to leave my watches lying around in the hotel or on the beach blanket. Even $500 would be too much money to let it be stolen knowingly.

    great vid as always,
Love the watch, looks great, quality seems a given etc. etc.
    But I couldn't buy one.
The name. Not the 'snobbery brand bias'. Just the name. IMHO it's just a bit rubbish, and taking up so much dial space. And did I say it? The name...
it sounds like a fashion brand. Sorry to all the CW lovers and CW forum contributors.
    Just my opinion.
    But it's a beautiful watch.

Beautiful colours but people nitpicking over something like a slight off centring of letters means people have no lives anymore.

Not a bad looking watch. What is the other watch you're wearing in the video?

I have tried very hard to get into this brand (CW) but feel that it's like putting lipstick on a pig. I can see any amount of similar looking sub £50 watches in the display carousel at my local supermarket. Please tell me what is special about them.
