    Big thank you to Mr P for the loan of another cracker. I rate CW a lot. Good looking, well made watches, and they now sem to have moved the logo to the 'proper' place thankfully. Is this one their best yet? Well, no. It need better lume and a retro colour scheme for me. And maybe more than 150m water resistance! Nice engineering flex, or sorts, though. Next up, the pocket watch? Cheers, Jody

    I handled one today at a watch GTG sponsored by Nodus. I was impressed. It’s a very nice watch. The dial design and execution are spot on. This is the first diver with an inner rotating bezel I’ve handled where I’d actually have confidence using the bezel for timing without worrying about knocking it out of place. I might not be a buyer but I think it’s worth the ask.

    I got the black dial on sale and I love it. The bracelet fits perfectly with excellent drape. The indices are gorgeous and I appreciate having a real compressor on my wrist versus just a dual crown watch. And the light catcher case is a stunner. The sparkly indices on the back dial really shine like the night sky.
    I wore mine for 3 days last week and was again appreciating it as I did my daily chores.

  • @markwheeler4417

    I bought a C65 Super Compressor Black Sand when they were released. It's a great watch and in real life mine runs about +7 sec/day (which is typical for my CWs) but I haven't put it on a timegrapher. The Black Sand model was not popular. I believe they made only one batch, all with slightly off-centre text below the pinion (you can't tell in real life). The rest of the Black Sand models were sold at a 30% discount in their Jan 2021 sale. CW offered anyone who purchased one before the sale a refund to match the sales price. The black sand was the best colourway IMO but clearly the market felt otherwise. Time to doubt the wisdom of crowds but I would say that, wouldn't I? Lume is often a weak point on CW watches, always has been and in many models always will be. Not sure why. Ig you want great lume on a CW then you're looking at the C60 range. Great to see CW on the channel and another great video.

    Just bought the C63 Auto last week and I love it. But, based on my sample size of one, I will say that one department where CW are lacking (and where other Swiss Made brands offer more) is accuracy/regulation. I've owned seven Steinharts (still own five of them) and all of them run/ran within -3s to +5s/day. More precisely, they mostly run at around +3s/day and that's based on months and months of regular watch-checking. As it is after a week of ownership, my CW is nowhere near that accuracy. Granted: It meets the promised -20s to +20s/day at roughly +15s/day, but for a Swiss watch costing €750 on rubber, and considering my experience with the much cheaper Steinharts, I would've expected a bit more from CW.

    Hey Mr. Just One More Watch,
    Being a pedantic engineer who works mainly with the imperial system, I feel the need to point out that a mil is a different unit from a millimeter. A mil is one thousandth of an inch, about two and a half hundredths of a millimeter. I do understand that in common parlance where millimeters and centimeters are used as measurements it is easy to know that the meter is understood and just use the prefix, but I couldn't keep hearing it without saying something.

      I agree. I bought a trident pro 600 last year for just over £700. I couldn't believe the quality for the money paid. Defo bats above its price point. The bracelet is comfortable, easy to change out fast, has the on the fly clasp adjustment, great lume, excellent bezel action. Top quality materials. God knows how much you'd have to pay for a more mainstream brand with the same quality and specs. I only have two divers in my collection and the other is a Planet Ocean I bought new last year too. When I compare the finishing and quality, there's not much in it to my eyes and touch, and the omega was 8 times more expensive. Wish the omega had quick release bracelet too.

    A true "super compressor" watch is really only safe from water intrusion when diving. If worn while only swimming, not enough pressure is exerted upon the case to engage the seals and make it water tight.

    • @nusbacher
      @nusbacher Před 2 lety +1

      So how do you get to depth?

    • @AdAce21
      @AdAce21 Před 2 lety +1

      Lynette Nusbacher that’s kind of the point. As you’re descending, the increasing pressure makes the seals tighter and tighter until you’re at depth. If you’re just swimming in shallow water, there’s not enough pressure to engage the seals.

    • @nusbacher
      @nusbacher Před 2 lety +1

      … unless you keep the supercompressor watch in a box under pressure, and only open the box at depth, and put the watch on then. This could explain some of those boxes that dive watches come in -- you know, the ones that look like aqualungs.

    • @algorithm007ify
      @algorithm007ify Před 2 lety +3

      @@nusbacher I think what he/she is saying is that if you move your arms too rapidly or with excessive force in shallow water, there is a higher probability of water entering the case, as there is no pressure to produce the seal and you may force water in with the rapid movement. However, if you dive to a suitable depth without crazy arm movement (i.e., from free style swimming), then you will be ok. That is my interpretation of the comment. I am not sure if this is actually true or not, however. It sounds a little bit far fetched, as it means that you have to baby the watch in your descent. Surely the initial dive action will exert a similar force as freestyle swimming.

    Been looking into getting one of these since I bought a super compressor style Spinnaker Bradner a while back. I like the aesthetics of the dual crown design.

    I bought the C11 Elite about 7 years ago - 500m diver, inner rotating 120 click bezel at 2, movement crown at 4, HEL on the left side of the case. Great watch - bombproof. So I see this watch as a mesh of a true supercompressor mechanism in the back as well as 7+ years of design evolution on the front.
    I agree this should be at least 300m WR - a supercompressor diver at 150m doesn't impress! Plus, it gets more waterproof the deeper you go, so is it 150m at the surface and then ?? 200m at 30m depth...????? 🤣🤣

    Some of us don't mind the name of another man on our watches but are Canadian and old enough to remember Christopher Ward was the name of the MuchMusic VJ who wrote the Alanah Myles' hit Black Velvet. Just seems weird seeing his name on a watch, even though it's not his name, even though it's his name. Maybe if the watch maker's name was Bob Ward....

    There is a lot to like from the CW C65 Super Compressor but I would like to see the bracelet reduced down fro 22mm at the lugs to 20mm with a 2mm taper down to the clasp. Offer a true BoR bracelet with the great push button adjustable ratcheting CW clasp would be a great improvement.
    Plus, regulate the movement to +0 to +8 range at this price point, would be welcomed.

  • @FlyingSpaghettiMonster2000

    Standard £100 discount if you sign up to the mailing list, so would make it 900gbp

    Still loving the Sealander but agree that should of been regulated. Although not a deal breaker or the lume for that matter. I do find the dial a little busy but overall it seems like a well thought out offering.

    Great insight Jody.
    This one, however, is in my colour range and would look fantastic on my wrist.
    I must say that I just recently discovered CW watches and find them to be very well built and have great thoughtful designs.
    Thanks for sharing.

    I had never seen a video of this darker blue one. It’s very sharp, but I still prefer the lighter, Turquoise version.
    I love color so that blue on such a fun, updated retro design is just glorious. Could care less about the lume or the water resistance. I’m not a fisherman or a diver.
    It’s 3 on my list for about 2 years, but now it’s next in the que and I’m no longer sure.
    The Oris Aquis 400 is 3 times the price, not a deal like this CW, but I LOVE the Aquis and it’s clean, modern, flawless (to me) design.
    Decisions.

    This is a good looking piece. That inner rotating bezel is something a bit too. Not seen one like that before. I really wouldn't be happy with a pin and collar system and that lume for this kind of money though. The on the fly adjustment is nice too have though.

    That alone should be deserving of abit more recognition than they're getting.

    Well, I got to be the first viewer today. Big fan of CW watches because of the build quality you get, and this particular one looks beautiful in the blue and orange. I love that they are a British company, and the customer support they offer. Thanks Jody for you usual balance, clarity, and analysis. Top work as always, I may just add this one to my (modest) collection!!

    It reminds me of a Citizen I a) only paid £125 for and b) regretted buying after looking at its face for 2 weeks.
    Tone down the orange, boost the lume, and make it 660ft. Then I'd buy one.

    JOMW! GREAT review, as always! You never fail to impress with your detail, humor and on-the-nose critiques. This one is no different, however I have to say I've never been a fan of cushion cases. They look like a turkey platter with a watch dial stuck on. Also, what's with the constant complaints about having a watch maker's name on the dial? Really?? Following are watches with men's (and a woman's) names on them: Joseph BULOVA, Antoni PATEK and Adrien PHILIPPE, Antoine LeCOULTRE, RICHARD MILLE, Louis-François CARTIER, Charles-Félicien TISSOT, Aletta Francoise FREDERIQUE Stas-Bax and Peter CONSTANT, Andrew HAMILTON, and finally BREGUET... I guess it's fine if the name sounds more French, Scottish, Dutch, Swiss, Polish or Russian? (These are the true origins of all these fine watchmakers.) Anyway, having gotten all that out of the way, I currently own the C.Ward C60 Trident Bronze Ombré COSC Limited Edition (a superb watch!) and a C.Ward C60 Trident Pro 600 with red ceramic bezel, also a superior watch. I had the older C60 with black bezel, but sold it. And you're right Jody - that S.Compressor movement should have been adjusted better. I paid the same for my COSC Trident Bronze (WITH an $81 USD Import Duty!) as what they're asking for the Compressor. NO excuses C.W.!!

    People keep commenting negatively about wearing a watch with another mans name on it, this makes no sense to me ! Would it bother them if it had 2 men’s names on it ? For example A. Lange & Söhne or Patek Phillipe ? Somehow I doubt it 😳

    • @MRFUCKOFF202
      @MRFUCKOFF202 Před 2 lety

      I think it's anglocentricism, Christopher Ward could be your mate from the pub whereas "A. Lange & Söhne" doesn't even sound like a name (as long as you're not from a related European country).
