I own the Selten and it,s amazing how they made such a great watch for the prize. I was sure, there would be some corner cutting, but no. Only gripes I have is the bracelet endlinks, not a quality, but a design issue. Also it's quite thick, but it comes from the amazing dial with floating hourmarkers.
Also waiting for my Bel Canto, not happy for them pushing the delivery date, but I quess they didn't have a choice.
This video is exactly what I needed on an otherwise uneventful Sunday 😊

Bought a Nivada Superantartic a couple of years back and recently rediscovered it in my collection. Kinda looks like that big branded one, some good stories around it ( the Antarctic explorers actually wore it, not carried it in their pockets in preference to their Smiths) and really robust. I also picked up a Longines Spirit GMT 39mm when I happened to be in St Imier on the day of the launch. My other GMTs ( including that soft drink package coloured ones) have now taken a back seat to it……

Another well narrated and humorous video Andrew. I have to agree with the Longines Big Eye bit. I wasn't a fan when it was re-released but it's one of the best tool chronograph watches that you can still buy without making an oath that you can't not break to some dodgy dude in an odd hat. It's available if you look around enough and arguably one of the most readable at a glance in the steel version with the black dial. Needless to say I ended up getting one some years ago and definitely do not regret it. Many thanks for sharing.

I have a friend who was kind enough to show me, midst my bragging about my Glycine Airman Chief, his Christopher Ward jump-hour. The hour indicator being at 6 o'clock was the most shocking thing... I have since looked for that watch, or another that does NOT have the jump hour jumping under the seconds hand, but to no avail.
The D1Milano with Myota 9015 for less than £500 after negotiations....amazing quality and the only reason I haven't bought the 12.
I just looked at the D1. It's very nice. I also will not buy a CW12. I like it but don't love it. The integrated bracelet watch that I saw and immediately loved is the Maen Manhattan 37. I already ordered it for about US$700.
One of the best for my money is the Glachutte Orginal Panoreserve if you want the A Lange Sohne look.
I’m curious if there is an alternative to Ressence because man at 20k I would love to see that ability to display time in more of an affordable way like a solar quartz

I have been watching your channel since its beginnings and love your content. I think you have earned the right to some kind of set behind you. The white wall is not giving justice to the fantastic content you create ;)
I guess a Zenith Chronomaster T (full calendar chronograph) from late 90’s/early 2000’s would be the closest to a PP5970. It edges any competition with the high-beat of the respected El Primero Chronometer-adjusted caliber, which is actually very smooth to operate. The aperture calendar indications are easy to read. It wears comfortably at 40mm, has an interesting case not unlike PP’s classic ones and to this day, I challenge you to find any competition, not even in Zenith’s own catalogue. The black dial version in particular will have everyone look twice at your wrist because it looks the business and most importantly it isn’t some random microbrand wannabe vintage something that will vanish tomorrow while the market price makes it a bargain. Yes, it’s a bit old now but then again, so is the Patek 5970…

I'm not one for the weird and wonderful complications even at discount prices. My takeaways from this list would be the CW Twelve and the Longines. Christopher Ward are knocking it out of the park at the moment, I'm so pleased with my blue C63 on bracelet. It has me lasting after a black Trident Pro 300....who needs a BB58...?

Not super cheap but a solid alternative to a A. Lange & Söhne Lange One would be the Glasshütte Panomaticlunar. That one comes in at around 10K€ instead of your liver and first born.
Then there is of course the Zenith El Primo Chronographs vs the Daytona.
$2565 for a Zeroo Time T3 Leo Blk/Blu. Seems too expensive from the origianl $1100 shipped. Worth it?

I've ordered an Oceaneva Deep Marine Explorer. It's a 1250 Meter, Titanium dive watch that I'm pretty sure I don't need.. Looking forward to a Rolex Sea-Dweller vibe for $500.

Being a pedantic git I have to point out that the Bel Canto does not chime(multiple tone) but strike(monotone).

Huh?... is there some weird watch specific use of the words "chime" and "strike" that I'm not aware of? A strike and a chime are to different things. You strike something (like a bell) to make it chime (make a sound). You can strike a bell once to make it chime, or multiple times to make it chime, doesn't matter.And unless you you have two different bells to strike, striking a single bell multiple times will still be monotone, or one note.

I bought a Seiko Samurai Save the Ocean with a blue graduation dial, but also with a texture on the dial. I now no longer desire the Rolex Deep Sea Cameron.
Citizen NB1060-12L has Grand Seiko looks without the Grand Seiko price tag.
I was recently notified by Christopher Ward that my order for the Bel Canto is delayed to ship next March, instead of by the end of this year. Oh well, at least they are holding only a deposit.

A vintage Seiko Weekdater is a good budget alternative to a vintage Rolex DayDate.

I own watches with prices ranging from £15 (Ebay Vostock Komandirskie), up to just under £3k (Doxa Sub 200 T-Graph), and amazingly the one that I wear the most is my Seagull 1963 Heritage Chronograph. It's NOT all about the money! Then again, I'd LOVE an A Lange & Sohne, but I doubt if I'd wear it often!

To me a bargain watch is $15 not $1500. My expensive watches stay in my dresser drawer because in my work I tend to break watches and a Walmart $15 special being broken is not a cause for tears. My pricey watches are reserved for dress-up occasions.
41mm for the longines chronograph is NOT BIG! many chronograph and pilot watches are way larger and indeed too BIG! this is actually very good size !

I get that the bel canto is cheap for a chiming watch, but at AUD$4,000 this is far from a bargain watch

It’s odd that they only made 300 of those supposedly but everytime you see a reviewer with one or someone who says they own one it’s always blue.

40mm dress watch = FAIL. It's too big for a dress watch, always has been always will be. 38mm is the sweet spot for a dress watch, I though this was universally accepted now? Quite like the diddy date window though! The 36 looks better proportioned to my eye.
Why nobody from wrist watches influencers and leaders of opinions after all do not tell us how unbelievably close Christopher Ward “Twelve” to Czapek Antractique? Why everybody try to make us blind and force to compare “twelve” with Audemar Piguet and tell that the first inspired by the second.

Who would cross shop that and the Big Eye? The later is sell like crazzy. The former, probably needed a boost, by being compared with a very successful design.
