    Christopher Ward seems to be a really great balance between affordability and quality. I'm becoming a fan having owned some of their stuff. A little weird they decided to do a real super compressor but whatever.

    I love that they got away from the push pull crown like they had on some of the c65’s. Also the logo below 12 is what people were asking for. Nice to see a manufacturer do that. Great looking watch.

    I get it now...thanks for explaining this...the super compressor spring is operating in harmony with the gaskets on the rest of the watch! So that's how they make it waterproof to...whatever. Otherwise the gaskets have to be too tight and like said...in today's tech maybe that's okay and satisfied like on my Sub or B&R but this is how CW chose to do it. Cool.

    Great watch but it looks like this was the first run where the words Super Compressor are not centered. If you look at their site the images have been corrected now but you will see in the Loupe magazine that it has been off from the start and only corrected with newer production runs. Cannot understand how they overlooked it!

    Great piece! Love the pops of orange throughout. I was a fan of the signature at the 9 position, but this obviously looks good too. I don’t understand the fixed color dots at 12 through 4 either. But, man, this is a looker!

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt Před 3 lety

      @Scott Barnett Well.....good stab at it. Air (not oxygen) on an average dive (lots of factors) could easily be 45 minutes worth with enough reserve to resurface safely. But even if that timeline was 20 minutes, or even a 20 minute ascent, you would see that notation on a ROTATING bezel, so that you could set it when the event starts. As it is here, in order to use it, you would have to start your "event" exactly at the top of the hour and use the minute hand to track. Not bagging on you, just curious if this is an intended feature of some sort, or just cosmetic variation. And I'm not a diver either...I've only been once before via a resort course!

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt Před 3 lety

      @Scott Barnett Excellent...nice to know it’s just for looks! I imagine even in its cosmetic stance, like you said, it’s a nod to the usual 20 min shading. It’s a beautiful piece. This is one of the most attractive dials I’ve seen.

    I LOVE the design of this watch and have been reading a lot of reviews about it.
    I just have one point that was not mentioned in the video. You can clearly see that the "SUPER COMPRESSOR" text on the dial is slightly offcentered towards the left. This topic has already been discussed quite a bit in the short amount of time this watch has been available. If I am not mistaken, Christopher Ward admitted that this was a design flaw and corrected this point : you can have a look on the website and see that the text is now properly centered on the 1st picture of the gallery (not on the other ones though, that were probably taken before this issue was raised). I think I read somewhere that they also accept to replace the watch if you bought it before the correction and thus if the issue is on the dial.
    Thank you for sharing the video and conforting my opinion on how great this timepiece actually looks.

  • @RedwoodAggie
    @RedwoodAggie Před 3 lety

    It's funny when you compare the SPB187 that your friend Bruce just reviewed. The quality really seems to blow the Seiko away, for less money. I realize they're completely different designs (and the Seiko has that nice 70hr power reserve), but I wanted to point that out. I've recently become a real fan of this one recently, and your video cemented that opinion. It just exudes quality, and blue with the orange highlights is definitely my personality. I'm putting this near the top of my list for the next year. It might replace my orange Dan Henry 1970 - which has weak lume, especially on the hands, and the numerals on the bezel are cheap looking, plus that mineral crystal just looks grainy in certain angles of sunlight.

    The fact this is a genuine super compressor, no matter how pointless (like a tourbillon), and the fact one has never had a display caseback make me very happy I just bought this in the sale!
    In fact I have looked at the Farer Aqua Compressor in the past, to learn that compressor is not just a different type of bezel but a feature it doesn't have even though it costs £100 more than the CW is pretty astonishing.

    The brand seems to have many great offerings. However, I’ve heard some instances of people in the US getting hit with high tariff/import fees when they order the watch. But looking at a $1k Ward watch vs Seiko, the Seiko doesn’t look nearly as strong of a value.

      Surely you would only pay your local version of tax though? If you’re buying from abroad you can remove or claim back the tax in the country you’re buying from (U.K. VAT at 20%) but would be liable for your home country tax if it’s stopped at customs.

    • @ZachBie
      @ZachBie Před 2 lety

      @@manuel_winde my understanding is that the United States had a tax on watches imported from different countries over X amount (I think it’s about $800), so UPS or FedEx will collect that tax from you before I get will release the package to you. And I have heard they charge you a fee to process the paperwork too.
