    Great video. I liked the concept of this shotgun (fire-arm) the first time I saw it at my local gun shop. Being a retired cop, I could recognize the problems of firing this gun at shoulder level and the constant practice and ammo it would take to be and stay proficient with it firing from the hip. When Crimson came out with their saddle laser sight, I ordered one and purchased the gun from the shop. I was 72 at the time and did not want to deal with the recoil of a 12ga, so I purchased a 20ga. Sighted it in at 25 feet, and keep it loaded with a combo of No 2 buck and slugs. I like it so much that I consider it my go-to home defense weapon. I can see why you chose the system you have and think you are right on.

      THANKS!! Glad you enjoyed the video. Even at my not so young age the 12ga version is a lot to hold on to with this design, that's a lot of the reasoning for using the mini shells. I have sense picked up the 20ga Cruiser model based off the Maverick 88, I also have a .410 model by Charles Daly.
      I like the .410 best for control, I like the 12ga slug in a mini shell for stopping power, and the 20ga seems to be the compromise in the middle. I'll have a video out in the coming weeks on the 20ga Cruiser.
      Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!!

      There are stock adapters so you could shoot it at shoulder level. I'm not sure the stock adapter would be legal on a 14 inch model because it becomes a short shotgun.

    Thank you👍. I just purchased FDE Shockwave. Found a company (Defender Tactical in Texas) that makes adaptor similar to Opsol BUT … their adapter allows you to shoot all 3 lengths of shells without removing it PLUS …. It installs securely / won’t fall out like the Opsol can & the 590S rubber pad from factory can as well.

    • @citizenpew
      @citizenpew  Před rokem +1

      I actually did a review on that adapter last week with the same Shockwave. Worked well.

    @guillermomaguire5394 Před 2 lety +30

    Thanks for the great video. We at OPSol specifically came up with our adapter for our wives and daughters. We designed it with Aguilas and the Mav 88. All your observations were spot on. The aguila birdshot at 8 yards hits hard, due to cup wad. The Federal Slug is the most accurate, and all the mini bucks pattern well and have solid power.
    For those who want more punch, look to the offerings from Exotic Products. The three buck, like the blue shells you bought, are too long, but the rest have worked well for us.
    We have reloads in 6 00 buck that are quite effective.
    The key thing about this combination is that home defense is a family effort. As such, what would your family members be most effective with....a pistol, an ar, or a shotgun? For us, it was clearly the shotgun, but not with full power shells.
    Finally, if you put a pistol brace on the shockwave, the effect on comfort, accuracy, and "empowerment" is significant, and the laser (which is very cool), is not necessary.

      Thank you for making the adapter. I set up my Ol’ Lady & mother in law with a shockwave , the adaptor ,& mini shells. Birdshot then buckshot then slugs , it seemed like a guaranteed hit from the beginning. They are happy to be able to handle the 12 gauge & im thrilled they’re able to handle it.
      I really like the laser saddle, & how it was zeroed in. I’m about convinced of getting one , thank you.

    Thanks for the video. I have some suggestions for lowering recoiling and increasing control over muzzle rise. Demonstrated Concepts LLC. makes a recoil strap that is very effective and they also made a number of youtube videos that are useful and well worth watching. Additionally, Vang Comp will port and customize your barrel. This also will significantly limit recoil and barrel rise. They started doing this when approached years ago by parts of the US military in regard to the aforesaid two issues. Finally, applying a Pachmayr grip glove prior to the recoil strap mentioned above will optimize the overall result. I hope everyone finds this useful.

    Going with the 20 gauge Shockwave instead of 12 to reduce recoil. Prices may change, but as of today, 12g minishells are 6x more expensive than standard 12g shells..if you can even find the minis. Standard 20g shells in all shot sizes are readily available at normal prices.

Here is my current setup: CDM Gear MTRS light mount with 3 rails (VERY sturdy!), Streamlight TLR-1 1000-lumens light (this thing is so bright and has a strobe feature), UTG Bulldot compact green laser (extremely pleased with this guy), Monstrum side saddle with top picatinny rail (great quality and very sturdy), GG&G QD rear (actually side) sling mount (replaces the trigger housing pin). I changed the safety switch to a NDZ safety (easier to operate) and I am running a Blue Force Gear Vickers 2-point Sling. WOW! I love this set up! This has become my #1 go to gun for home defense, over several 9mm pistols and an AR-15 rifle.

    I almost bought one of those a few days ago but went with a cruiser model Mossberg. At least I know the cruiser model is 50 state legal pistol grip and I don't have to worry about a sudden law change instantly making me a felon for owning the damn thing like they did with the pistol braces. You can bet money they're coming for that kind of shit next. Which really sucks because it's absolutely ideal for a truck gun. But the cruiser model is only 2 in longer than the shockwave. So with my 18 and 1/4-in barrel and pistol grip I'm at 28 in where the shock wave is at 26 in. It isn't worth the future legal trouble to save 2 inches

  • @mack7882
    @mack7882 Před 10 měsíci

    I have a shockwave, mostly for fun but also for in home self defense (not my first choice - would use my Beretta 1301 first). But it's a lot cheaper than a 1301 and I added cut bicycle tube around the birdshead which gives it better grip, then took off front strap and smoothed off the rough edges with a lighter, then refixed it so it's on there solid, then added a picatiny rail to the top of the reciever that also has a 45 degree rail off it. Added a Crimson trace green pistol laser mounted upside down on top and to the side a small tac light. Then added a Universal Minishell adapter that allows use of either minishells or regular shells. It's not a bad bump in the night gun now.

I have a heat shield with a ghost ring sight for it and going to mount a light on her. Good to go.

The cross pin on the Crimson Trace has the 2 screws, and a single washer that, in the instructions, appears to go on the left side, or metal side. I looked up the instructions online, and that PDF doesn't show any washer. The strange thing is, the recess on the laser side looks like it would be the natural place to put it, since it's plastic, and has a recessed area that looks like it would fit. If you raise the thing to your eye to aim it, then why not just use a stock? Surely the whole point of not having one is to shorten the platform, but if you use it like a long-gun it defeats the whole object! Personally I'd rather shoot from the hip and aim with a laser, but that's just my preference. Whichever way you look at it, the Shockwave is a pretty neat piece of kit. Love it, love it, absolutely love it!

    • @citizenpew
      @citizenpew  Před 2 lety

      You are absolutely correct in my opinion, the point is to have a shortened platform for more versatility. Shooting from the hip does well in low lighting at close range when the laser is on but takes a lot of practice to do without a laser and be a decent shot. The red laser is horrible in the day light though, I hear the green lasers do much better. As far as shooting from a long gun position, the firearm does far better with accuracy and without a stock can be tucked back quickly for easier movement between spaces. Shooting it single handed is also an option if necessary, but with heavy loads it kicks the shooters arm all over the place, with the mini's recovery is much quicker single handed.

    I'm not a fan of pistol grip shotguns, but I will say the 2 biggest reasons I think pistol grip shotguns are not a great idea were the ones you attempted to mitigate with your modifications. Recoil/speed on follow up shots and sighting capability. One thing I might suggest if you are going to use this set up for home defense is to use mini buckshot when you can find some as opposed to slugs. Nice video. :-)

    • @citizenpew
      @citizenpew  Před 2 lety +1

      A pistol grip shotgun for home defense definitely has it's challenges, as you mentioned the recoil and recovery. Now that the model S version of the Shockwave is out, the need for an adapter is no more, but the wound chosen can greatly change it's effectiveness like you said. Mini Buckshot will not work in this model with the adapter, at least none I found, mainly due to being just slightly longer than the slugs, but it does work in the S model, which is good.
      Either way, it is a challenging firearm to set up for an ideal home defense, I definitely agree on that.
      Thanks for watching!!

      @@citizenpew Ya know, I have a pile of great shotguns. Benellis, Berettas, IWI, KSG. The one closest to where I sleep is a Mossberg 500 Cruiser model modified with the new Magpul SGA stock and a Magpul MOE forend. It's old as shit and has 30 million rounds through it and the only thing I ever had to do was replace the safety ( after about 20,000 rounds). Take care of your shotgun and your shotgun will take care of you.

      Nice! I can relate to that, my end all be all go to shotgun is still my Remington 870 tactical with Magpul furniture.

      @@citizenpew Agulia mini buckshot #4#1 cycle perfect with the adapter. I've put 100s through my shockwave...so have others..

      Unfortunately I haven't been able to get my hands on the Agulia mini buckshot yet, that's good to know. The NSI and Federal mini buckshot I've found haven't been able to cycle through it. Odd thing in my area is I can find the Agulia slugs and birdshot, but not buckshot.

    I would put a small strip of Gorilla tape to keep that OpSol insert from slipping out.

      I haven't had any issue with it moving out of place yet, but that is definitely something I'm watching for as I continue to practice with it. Being that there is no retaining device other than the molded rubber pushing against the receiver frame I see a very potential issue if the rubber degrades or the device is removed and inserted to many times.

      I got some fakes on Ebay, they work and stay put. I suggest the OpSol ones, buy those direct. Good guys to deal with.

    That’s why I bought the shockwave in 20 gauge. I have #3 buck shot loaded for home defense and hiking, unless I’m in bear country. Then it’s loaded with slugs

    I’m not really a fan of the laser. I spend more time looking for the dot. They seem slow to me.

      During the day I definitely agree, the red laser is pretty much useless outside in daylight. I hear the green laser does better but haven't had a chance to try one out yet.

    I bought mine with the laser installed. So I didn’t need to line it up myself.
