      I used to suffer quite badly, when I was young got the stage where I would have ever more disruptive rules to the point it was really eating into my life.
      Somehow I just faced it down and made rules that would be impossible to fulfil and something snapped (in a good way) - once nothing bad happened I was able to reel it all back.
      I'm not a psychologist and I'm sure it is different for everyone but I looked at is as my enemy keeping me prisoner. I understand your situation may well be different (more manageable or worse) but if you can break just one compulsion you can start to turn the tide. Then again if you are happy stay as you are ;)

    I would point out that despite what this woman says, hardly anybody eats this kind of breakfast every day. That would not be healthy. It's an 'occasional' breakfast and is often eaten later into the day as an 'all day breakfast'. In the uk the 'everyday' breakfast is cereal, porridge or toast and marmalade.

      That isn't what she means but I sympathize. Search up an IHOP stuffed French toast commercial. When she says dessert for breakfast, she's addressing our typical over-the-top indulgence in food. Yes, she is talking about variety but a variety that even we, who love it, think is outlandish. She's an outlandish over-the-top person herself. It isn't a knock on the variety of the English breakfast. Our original traditional (sometimes called Farmer's) breakfast is based on the traditional English breakfast.
      I'm a fan of tomatoes and mushrooms and sausage and eggs and fried bread and everything seen in the video except beans, which I hate, and black pudding, which I have no yet had, but I never got to have a traditional English breakfast while I was in England. The foods I honestly loved best were from chip shops. And you cannot get that here, not really. So we could have a million different types of battered and fried fish + chips/fries and we'd never be able to compete. I do think English bread is too sweet for my liking but nothing in the world I've ever had rivals English dairy. Just nothing is as good. And, btw, I'd sell organs to get just a single serving of batter from a chip shop.

    A full cooked UK breakfast, like this shown, is a rare treat. We wouldn't live long if we ate this greasy calorific meal every day! Normal breakfast is a mix, depending on personal taste of cereals, toast, eggs, museli, yoghurt, with tea coffee and/or juice. The cooked breakfast tends to be a weekend thing (when you have time to make it), or bought when out at a cafe or restaurant.

    Our local supermarket is Morrisons and they have a good Cafe where you can get a cooked breakfast.
    I often went for the full English compared to the Full Scottish because you got the link sausages instead of the Lorne (square) and you also got the Hash Browns but I didn't really fancy the fried bread and would usually ask if we could swap the fried bread for a tattie scone (Potato scone is a Scottish product and much better for you than fried bread, less messy as well).
    And I would usually wash it down with a mug of tea.

    This is a normal breakfast for me, I'm also from the west midlands and if we couldn't have a big breakfast it could be bacon/sausage sandwich or beans on toast. Black pudding sausage is always a must, cut and fried. Tomatoes are usually simmered down first, sometimes spread on bread or in a ramekin. I'm quite healthy btw.

    I think I should give a bit on input on this. In the colonies richer people have something similar to this most mornings. For the bread we simply toast it and apply so butter on top. We then usually have one or two fried eggs and jelly, we usually cut the eggs up on the toast and then apply the jelly giving it a sweet and salty taste. Some people also put in beans. The other stuff is mostly as a treat and rarely is eaten in the colonies and even in Britain is mostly a Brunch food.

  • @isotropisch82
    @isotropisch82 Před 3 lety

    We certainly don't have it most mornings. When I was living in London where there are a lot of cafes, I might have one every other saturday, and absolutely any time I stayed in a hotel, I think I've only made a full full English about 5 times at home, and only with guests, on a hangover, so many things to cook. I do think that many Brits, once a weekend will have some reduced form of a full english though, eggs and bacon, sausage and beans etc etc.

    I dunno. I feel like a lot of American breakfast staples were kind of borrowed from Europe (like sausage, ham, hash browns, oatmeal, toast, bagels, muffins, and such). The sweet stuff like pancakes, maple syrup, and cereal were probably us or Canada, as well as other more regional American breakfast foods like grits, biscuits and gravy, scrapple, chicken and waffles, and American bacon (aka the best bacon).

    • @SPExJR

    • @MaiCohWolf
      @MaiCohWolf Před 8 lety +2

      SPExJR I've had UK style bacon and it's good too, but I still like our bacon better. The bacon here is only crappy if you buy the cheap stuff from the store. I always buy thick sliced bacon and I often get it from a butcher shop up the street. I don't get it often since I don't have a lot of money, but it's a nice treat every few months or so. I like US bacon better because it's salty and has a nice crunch. Sure, you start off with a bunch and end up with a bookmark, but that just makes it more rare and valuable… like treasure.

      +MaiCohWolf Pancakes that you would get in like IHOP were invented in Scotland and the peoples of the Iroquois invented maple syrup. And "American bacon" was invented in Europe. It's just bacon cut from the belly rather than the back.

    • @MaiCohWolf
      @MaiCohWolf Před 8 lety

      UNITDW Well, cutting bacon from the belly rather than the back may have been a European thing (i would think lots of cultures do that though because lots of cultures eat bacon). American bacon is usually flavored with lots of seasonings - I always read that our version was developed in the Ozarks or something. The Iroquois are just as American/Canadian as any of the rest of us…
      Many thanks to the Scots though for sharing their pancakes! ;)
      Its kind of funny how so many cultures can come together to invent new foods!

  • @mshafer1021
    @mshafer1021 Před rokem

    For Brits viewing this: there is a loosely equivalent American full breakfast, but it can vary quite a bit depending on individual tastes. In general it consists of sage breakfast sausage patties or links, eggs cooked to preference, hash brown potatoes (similar to Swiss Rösti), streaky bacon, pancakes with maple syrup, buttered toast with jam or, alternatively buttered biscuits with jam. What Americans call biscuits is somewhat similar to a soft, spongy scone. This is generally chased by orange juice or coffee.
    Other popular items include sausage gravy (ground sage sausage in a milk and pork fat roux) poured over biscuits, diner style omelettes, corned beef hash, country ham with red eye gravy (made from pork fat and coffee), grits (corn mush), home fries (diced potatoes). As you get into the southwest it’s typical for many of these foods to take on a bit of a Mexican flair, often wrapped in burritos and doused with spicy pepper sauce.

    Often scrambled egg is an alternative to fried egg and sometimes fried bread. I've never liked these separate little bowls on a plate and would prefer beans loose on the plate. You might also get an additional course of buttered toast with jam or marmalade to eat first. Mushrooms are often the weak point depending how they have been cooked - fried or boiled and sliced or whole. I love cutting the toast and other items and dipping into egg yolk or tomato juice. Very few have this every day, Its quite likely that some regular customers of Greasy Joe type cafes, like lorry drivers and construction workers, will have it every day to provide a days calories and protein.
