You have to find out what valve you have. Or take it out and try to match it to something
Do you have to replace the cartridge if the water isn't getting hot?
Probably. As long as there is hot water getting to the valve
What are those 2 flat screw on the sides ?Those close the water just for the shower?
Yeah, if you screw those in you can shut off the water to the valve.

@brokeminimalistmama2341 usually there is a shutoff somewhere specifically for the shower valve. Otherwise you can try the screw shutoffs on the sides of the valve
