- Today's game is the most brilliant chess game I'd never seen until just recently. As a massive Alexei Shirov fan, I couldn't believe I'd missed this rapid game against Boris Gelfand which features amazing ideas for both players and a stunning winning move.
Lessons:
* The exchange isn't worth much if your rooks lack targets.
* Black's dark-square bishop is kingly when supporting queenside passers.
* Know. Your. Checkmates.

Love your enthusiasm Sam! Great game, great analysis. Thanks! 👍🏻♟👏🏻
So Amazing Sam!I loved it! I can only dream of having such tactics like this and espicially executing them!Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shirov is indeed the modern magician from Riga... great calculations and equally great analysis !!
He still lives i think :)
@@TymexComputing Not the same magician anymore, error noted anyways, thanks :)
Excellent analysis of an old favorite. Although, to be fair, the Grunfeld is tailor-made for brilliancies (Fischer had 2 of them before he turned 21.) In many variations, Black is goaded into giving up material because he gains so much damn real estate for his black-squared bishop. Plus, a die-hard Grunfeld player becomes so familiar with all the patterns of the opening -- as Shirov demonstrates.
this has got to be the most complicated endgame I've ever seen. the endgame tactics are insane and it kinda staggers me. this has got to be one of my favourite games.
More, more, more!
What a crazy crazy game
