RFK Jr's Brain Worm Story Makes No Sense

  • An analysis of RFK Jr's explanation of his diagnoses of neurocysticercosis and mercury poisoning.
The video includes clips from an interview with RFK Jr on the radio show, Pushing the Limits. The full video of the interview appears to currently be "unlisted" on their CZcams channel, which implies to me that they want to limit how much of the public sees it for some reason, so I won't link to it here. However, the audio for the whole episode is available on Spotify: podcasters.spotify.com/pod/sh...
Also, I want to be clear that my critique of RFK Jr's response during this interview is in no way meant to be a negative reflection of the radio show itself or its host. The point of this video is that the problems with RFK Jr's story/stories won't be evident to people whose expertise are in other areas.

To preemptively address some potential criticism:
This is not a political video. I do not discuss anyone's political positions here.
If viewers are bothered that I am singling out RFK Jr for criticism regarding his statements about his health, I'm not necessarily opposed to doing the same for other candidates. However, I suspect there is not much appetite among my subscribers for this...but I also could be wrong. Let me know.
There is a commonly-held belief that medical professionals should not speculate on the health of public figures, and that doing so is "unethical". Here's why I don't think this applies here:
    - I'm not speculating about RFK Jr's health out of the blue, but rather I am analyzing personal health information that he himself has voluntarily shared. He has made no indication that he wishes for this information to remain private.
    - Although he is currently a private citizen, he is running for the US President - arguably the most powerful person in the world. So his health is everyone's business.
    - The video focuses solely on his cognitive health, which is directly related to his ability to be our President.
Why are the comments restricted? The last time I posted a video concerning RFK Jr (which wasn't even very critical), the comments that followed from his supporters were over-the-top offensive and vitriolic. I'm not able to moderate comments in real time, so instead of just turning them off entirely, I've decided to try setting them to "must be approved". We'll see how this works out...

I like RFK more so than the other two candidates, both of whom’s mental health is also questionable in my opinion, and I enjoyed this video. I’m sure the story is embellished, it’s far too romanticised to be true-to-life.

As a nurse, I can tell you the physicians are never just hanging out in a waiting room. If they did, then we could find them easily when we wanted to bug them 😈

5:26 - 6:36 was my take and why I dismissed his claim straight up.
I am a doctor and not a specialist yet, which means to me he didn’t speak to any doctor.
7:28 - this friend probably made up the story.

Probably Swordfish or other high mercury fish. Also high in mercury but expensive enough that non-anglers don't eat so much.

    • @StrongMed
      @StrongMed  Před 24 dny +2

It's true that swordfish has much more mercury than tuna, but FWIW, he himself has attributed it to tuna.

Very peculiar stories. It'd be hard to imagine that people would be compelled to vote for a candidate who is poisoned with mercury and had brain parasites. I wonder what the real reasons for these stories are. On another topic: I've been watching the series on mechanical ventilation. As always, great lectures! Though I couldn't find the twelfth lecture, which is supposed to cover troubleshooting vents, and how to approach the ventilated patient in acute respiratory distress. Is this lecture missing?

As a fellow physician I totally agree. Unconvincing.

Most likely he made up the story. Sadly it's no surprise politicians lie. Finding an honest politician is like finding a unicorn or at least zebra. 😅

  • @notadvertiserfriendly6084

I don’t understand why a politician would make this up when voters (rightfully) care about how well politicians’ brains function.
(Or, if we give RFK Jr. the benefit of the doubt, that he wasn’t being misleading on purpose, I don’t understand why he wasn’t more careful about saying the correct thing.)
Looks like trying to reduce how much he had to pay his ex-wife came back to bite him in the ass (Even if he’s fine, we all know political opponents will use it against him)

It was 12 years ago. I don't think he was thinking of running for office at the time, these revelations are from divorce proceedings
