  • Well Its finally here the first big restoration project for the Really Random Channel :).
    The item in question is a 1979 Honda C90 motorcycle , scooter, moped or whatever else you want to class it as lol. It was a barn find that has been sitting off the road for years and when i got the chance to buy it i snapped it up.
    From the initial inspection it didn't look to bad but tearing it down uncovered a series of areas that will need rectification work if i want to get this back to factory fresh.
    The plan is to go thorough the bike methodically restoring, replacing and fabrication as need be to make this one of the best restored c90's out there and as you can probably tell from my other videos the finish will be second to none ;)
    so sit back relax and enjoy a series of videos documenting the full restoration of the bike from start to finish.
    If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)
    And as usual if you liked the video please like share and subscribe and help the channel grow.

    I rode a C90 for around half a year when my bike was totalled in an accident and I needed to get to work waiting for the insurance to pay out on my main bike. I hated it at first but quickly learned to at least respect it for its rugged reliability. It never let me down, it got me to work right through the winter.

    The C90 is a 90cc, four stroke single cylinder OHC engine with a single range transmission motorcycle built for the street. It is a version from the family of bikes that the CT90 trail machine is from. The CT90 has two transmission ranges. These bikes were built from the 50's to the mid 80's for the US market and I believe they are still made for and used by the postal service in Australia. Top speed in this version is about 50 MPH and in good running will get about 50 MPG. You see the step through frame version here, but Honda also made a T frame that look like a "normal" motorcycle. They are virtually bulletproof bikes.
    I'm jealous that I didn't find one in this condition. I learned to ride on this frame style and actually owned a T framed C90, which I bought for $50 and rode for 5 years before selling it.
    Be sure to clean the metal fuel screen in the fuel selector valve before you ride it.

    • @srteach70
      @srteach70 Před 5 lety

      BTW there was no clutch in this series of bikes. Shifting was only by foot lever in a semi-auto transmission. Off hand lever (non-throttle side) was actually rear brake.

    • @leslieaustin151
      @leslieaustin151 Před 5 lety

      Darrell Jensen - on the models in UK, at least, there was no left hand handlebar lever, the rear foot brake pedal is on right side (handlebar rear brake only on CT90?). There are actually two clutches in the transmission I think, operated through linkage from the gear-change pedal and through an engine-speed device - so “automatically operating clutch”, but it’s incorrect to say ‘no clutch’, it’s there. An almost unbreakable bike, as Ed March has proved (look for “C90 Adventures”). Heck, he even raced his at Dirtquake this year!! I wanted a C90 early this year and couldn’t find one at an affordable price, well done Really Random! I’m watching every day for the next instalment... Les in UK

    brings back many memories of freezing my ass in a shed replacing tyres/brakes and exhaust studs, such a brilliantly designed bike, shame they killed it off, and the 110 replacements were just never quite as good, just felt buzzy

    No way, I was just looking for a Honda restoration! I'm trying to do up a CT90 that's in far worse condition than this bike. Soaking in rust converter and wire brushing so many bits takes time and patience lol.
    Hope you do a good job!

      I presently doing a Honda Goldwing 1200. Not anywhere as comprehensive as this and it's slow going but lots of fun. Trouble with my project is that it's so big, it takes up most of a garage.

    Brilliant. I've always fancied doing one of these. I wonder, will you be doing a faithful restoration, or will you be adding some sympathetic modifications? I hope you do the latter. Things like better bulbs, better wiring, modern tyres and shocks. That sort of thing. Anyway I can't wait for the next film.

      Hey, Thanks for the comment. I'll be sticking to a faithful restoration on this one but i have another project in the works that i hope to restore to OEM + standard ;) The next instalment will be ready in a few days time ;)

    Excellent restoration project, a big piece of motorcycle history, the Honda Step-Tru. We had a C50 for several years, only fault was the kick starter lever return spring failed, so full engine strip down, soften, and reform a new tag out of the slightly shorter torsion spring.
    If memory serves, the ignition switch could be bypassed by merely isolating the body from the frame earth. Is this correct!.
    Thank you for sharing.

    It's only original once....That was a true survivor. With some detailing it could have been super nice.

    • @RRCRestoration
      @RRCRestoration  Před 5 lety

      Your correct it is only original once. However in this case it isnt original as the bike has been brush painted very badly so any originality is long gone.

    According to his age the condition is good enough to just "start" it and keep the original condition. However; no much lost as it was one of the most sell motorcycles in history.
