It's Getting Exciting Now! -Part 5 ( Honda C90 FULL RESTORATION )

- Welcome to part 5, Exciting times lay ahead with more building and engine work :)
The first job on today's list was to refit the swing arm to the frame but first it needed new bushes pressed into it so into the trusty old vice it went. After that it was just a case of bolt it to the frame and stick the rear wheel on. None of the rear end bolts will be torqued down at the moment as the chain still needs to be fitted and adjusted once the engine goes in.
After the wheel was on i decided to finish off most of the wiring by fitting the handlebars, switch gear and lights. This took longer than expected due to the polishing and inlaying that the switches needed but a job that was immensely satisfying to see the results of!
The it was onto the big job that a lot of you have been waiting for tearing the engine apart for restoration. At this point i would like to say all specs have been check for the engine and everything is within those specs so the gearbox wont be coming apart neither will the bore be getting honed or the piston replaced as compression tests show it has full compression. The casing were all lightly blasted then buffed back to a satin finish, a vapor blaster would make this process easier but i dont have one and no one local has one either so im stuck doing cases the hard way for now. The barrel was painted high temp gloss black and the side cases were repainted in there original silver gloss finish.
Next week i will be rebuilding the engine with all new gaskets and seals setting the tappets and ignition timing, then refitting the engine and finishing off the bike.... fingers crossed.
see you again soon RRC.
A little more info below if this is your first time watching the C90 restoration.
The item in question is a 1979 Honda C90 motorcycle , scooter, moped or whatever else you want to class it as lol. It was a barn find that has been sitting off the road for years and when i got the chance to buy it i snapped it up.
From the initial inspection it didn't look to bad but tearing it down uncovered a series of areas that will need rectification work if i want to get this back to factory fresh.
The plan is to go thorough the bike methodically restoring, replacing and fabricating as need be to make this one of the best restored c90's out there and as you can probably tell from my other videos the finish will be second to none ;)
so sit back relax and enjoy a series of videos documenting the full restoration of the bike from start to finish.
If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)

Hey Guys, As you have probably noticed already i have updated the channel name and logo. The channel is no longer Really Random Channel it is now RRC Restoration. Just incase you were wondering why the water marks in the video still say Really Random Channel. Enjoy.
Hello, I'm restoring a 1994 round headlight Honda Econo C90, and I've been watching a lot of your videos. Excellent help, thank you, genius.
This was the first bike I owned in the 70s, when I was a pennyless student. Brought back some memories, mostly good. Thank you very much.
I could watch you wrench on stuff all day. So relaxing.
Thank you very much :)
Better than Netflix... Keep up the good work and looking forward to the conclusion! This has been an excellent series and I'm excited to see what other projects you have in line!
Thank you for your kind comment. I have plenty more projects lined up that i hope will interest you :)
Netflix for classic men.
there's a new season of the walking dead so fuck no
This is turning into one of the best restorations of it's type I've seen in here...
I remember as a kid we used to turn these grandad bikes into field bikes...
There's an incredible beauty to be found when rebuilding a completely clean, fresh bike. When you assemble it, you want to take time to step back and stare at the what you've assembled and what's next, knowing you don't want to fuck it up. You want to do it the cleanest way to avoid scratches or smudges.
Such a true comment thank you for leaving it :)
Looks great, can't wait to hear it running. Don't think they ever looked as good as this when they came out of the factory.
I’m really loving this series. I also like the style of the filming and some of the fun shots like when you move the bike lift. The minimal commentary and methodical and careful way you go about the renovation is so calming and relaxing to watch. Looking forward to many more videos. Thanks!
Thank you very much for your kind comment :)
My dad's uncle have one of this 28 years ago.because of this, this project reminds me a good old memories.keep up the good work man.good luck.from iran, esfahan
I came across your channel by accident and glad I did having once been the owner of a red C90 in the early 80's and wish I still had it.
Thoroughly enjoyed the C90 restoration project so far. I had one back in the 70s for commuting, your videos have taken me back! Keep up the good work! :)
These days, watching you restoring an old Honda C90 motorbike, is a good friday night for me! LOL
As long as your enjoying yourself thats the main thing ;)
@@RRCRestoration Yes it is, and trust me, I am! ;-)
Well said
Great restoration! I enjoyed watching how you assemble the parts piece by piece. Thanks for your sharing.
could watch 10 episodes per day, extreme nice work and passion, must drive better than new when you are done with it, respect
Using the vise to press inthe sleeves brought back a lot of memories because that’s how my Dad did a lot of things around our own garage as we worked on Antique Sportscars, Motorcycles and boats many of the cars and Motorcycls were British and often the Imperial tools available in the United States wouldn’t work as intended we even pressed U Joints in and out of a drive shaft that was about 4 feet long so I stood on a ladder to get the alignment correct for the vise on super tight jobs it was common for my Dad to freeze parts in our kitchen refrigerator
kudos...❤👍being a vespa & 2t guy. ..but now finding a cub project ...found your videos..

Incredible!! Waiting for part 6. Amazing job!
Great Video, i prefer start with the engine and minimize the risk, but great restoration ¡¡¡
really really hardwork and a good job
I appreciate this quality work and enjoyed it
you are awesome.
I feel stupid, i've had the same kind of lift for several years. I only thought the hatch was for servicing the hydraulic pump, never though that it could be used for easier wheel removal. I've been lifting the bikes with sketchy wooden blocks under the centre stand until now, duh'!
Great project and videos, thanks!
Brilliant Stuff! Enjoyed every second of it!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Great work. Love the amount of detail you out into the littlest things. Like the video tons. Keep up the good work.

superb work its looking great and now the part ive been waiting for is next up its the heart surgery where it all comes together. the hrs of sanding painting the attention to detail and the skill used in it all but its that final beating heart and the smell of fresh oil and petrol as she bursts to life thats the reward.
Yup, cant wait to show you guys it running and hopefully the weather gets better and i can get a few shots out on the road ;)
First I liked and then I watched !

Fantastic job mate, especially all the blasting and polishing to the engine. I can only imagine how tedious that was.

This bike you can put in a shop and sell as new, because it's (looks) new. Best restoration i ever look at.

Best restauration videos ever. Every step with a new camera position. Perfect! Best regards from Germany
You, Sir, are a very talented engineer and a dab hand at cinematography. I just love these instalments and the speeded up sound effects. I can't wait for part 6.
What is your next project, maybe an F15 fighter jet? I wouldn't put it beyond you.
haha i would certainly give it a go if someone donated one to me haha, Thank you for your kind comment :)
I have one of these bikes but a newer version, year 1993 or the GBO-J with square headlights. Have some mods including electronic ignition with CDI. This bike is really easy to maintain and never easily break down except punctured tyres . So far this is really a good buy so far! Sadly it is no longer with me after I've sold it to someone who really needs it more than me.
I LOVE C90 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💘❤️💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💖💖💖💖💖💖 classic never die. Hello im from Indonesia 🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨

All video sequences are very descriptive, can not be done better. Restoration process is also a schoolbook example of how to do. Thumbs up for "Really Random Channel". Hope it never end :-)

U love what u do and this is so appealing keep working bro gj
Thank you for your comment :)
So the handle bar and upper head cover was one . . That why i didn't find any screw to open it . . Thanks for sharing
The level of detail is incredible. You would have to sell the bike for 5,000 $ to make any money at all. I do love watching and your speeding up the mundane parts makes the video very watchable. Thanks for all your work, It looks brand new so far!
Thank you so much for your kind comment :)
Good restoration 👍👍👍
I like your style ! Awesome !
Thank you :)
Waiting for part 6 😋
