      I would download a Windows installer, boot to it and see if it lets you get to a command prompt, where you could run chkdsk, SFC or even system restore. Here's how to do that: czcams.com/video/5naOPxd6vsI/video.html
      Keep me posted as to your results :)

      @@RakeshKumar-hb5tq well you have to get to the restore menu first. That's the critical part. I usually only go back to the point where I know everything was working properly. System restore points can get damaged or corrupted too, so if you go back to your latest restore point and it doesn't work, try again and go one point further back. And even if Windows says the restore failed, reboot anyway nice seen 1000 times where it tells me it failed and I reboot and everything works. It will even tell me it failed after it successfully boots lol

      I would still start with safe mode. If you can't get your screen to come on at all, you could have bigger issues, such as LCD or video output failure. Or it could just be that your system is stuck in hibernation. Hard to say, but trying safe mode is always a good start to see what actually works and what doesn't

      Hard to say. Could be software or hardware at this point. If brand new, I would go ahead and run a factory recovery to eliminate hardware. If it ends up hardware (most likely drive), submit warranty claim or refund/exchange. I always try to eliminate one or the other right off the bat...too many variables otherwise

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  Před 3 lety +1

      It is not uncommon after a Windows update for this to happen. Many times with the Windows updates you just have to restart multiple times or get into safe mode for Windows to sort of address its own issues. Sometimes it's malware, sometimes Windows. Sometimes it's just updates. You just have to start with the most likely thing and work your way to a solution

      This is true, but its because that's usually a last resort. I knew this was a Windows function issue, and a virus was not likely to have caused it because the client was not the type of person to have picked up a virus (because of how they used it). Probably wouldn't have been a bad idea, though, for any other user. Good point :)

    This black screen happens while trying to upgrade from windows 7 to 10. When you restart the laptop, it undo's the install and puts the computer back to Windows 7. Is there a way to fix that prior to upgrading? The computer boots fine as 7.

    • @AskYourComputerGuy

      With loginui.exe, it could be. I'd definitely run a system file checker (from command prompt, type "SFC /scannow")....but when your login GUI is damaged, you're likely looking at a Windows reload. But you might get lucky, definitely try it first!

      This fix won't apply to every black screen issue. At some point, you may have to do either a Windows refresh or (worst case) complete reinstall. This fix works for the majority of root causes, but not all of them. Try booting to Windows DVD or flash drive and see if you can do a refresh. That will at least save your files without having to back them up manually

      These are all the steps you can take prior to a full factory restore. If you've tried them all, that's probably your next step. If you have data you need to save, best to have someone extract that for you before you do, because you will lose them all during the restore

      Unknown Hard Error generally occurs due to corrupt system files, registry entries, malware attacks, and certain Windows updates (for some users). This error may lead the system to malfunction or even crashing; your system and data are at great risk. You definitely need a factory restore at minimum. Windows is corrupted or damaged.

      Depending on your model, you will have certain keys at bootup (usually have to hit escape or F1 to get to them). These allow you to get to BIOS or specify a different boot drive. Once at this menu, you might see an option for factory restore. If not, you'll need to follow my video on how to download a Windows ISO disc to have a Windows install disc to reload from. You'll need someone else to let you use their computer to do this obviously. Friend or family member
