The Difference Between Taper & Fade Blades

  • Coming from a stylist background before I got into barbering, I honestly didnt know the difference between the two blades. As I bought more clippers, I did start to notice all the different types of blades were on each tool. Now currently working for Babyliss Pro, i've really been able to dissect the functionalities of everything. This is not a super descriptive video on every detail, but the main difference in how they cut with or without assistance to our hand position.

    Thank you!! I have been having trouble with my babyless making a skin fade, I couldn’t tell if it was a fade blade because its still quite round compared to my wahl trimmer/fader. I will switch to taper blade, and use it for fading upper areas.

    Pretty much it’s all in the technique is scooping and how you use it. I was thinking in using the taper blade to blend and keep the dark the fade more like the light blends and smudges I can’t take out with the taper blade from my experience but I’ll probably get one of each and try it out

    Would the blade type (taper vs fade) make a difference if you are using combs/guards? Wouldn’t the base shape of the comb/guard determine the action of the “c-scoop” action?

    • @Staygold31
      @Staygold31  Před 2 lety +3

      That is correct that when guards are on - they cut similar but not exactly the same. Angle of blades is different so the hair feeding into it won't be identical. You would mostly see the difference cutting on the scalp without guards during the tighter part of the fade so the c scoop very much matters there

    • @Staygold31
      @Staygold31  Před 3 lety +1

      They both can be the same level of close. Just gotta adjust them properly and have them zero gapped. Taper blades just help with the c scoop!
