    I don't do a neckline anymore, because my beard is very long. But when I did, a better way to trim that neckline (in my opinion and in my experience) is to give yourself a double-chin by pulling your chin into your neck. Where you see the line from the double-chin where the bottom skin of the double-chin ends, that's your line. It's more precise that way, as opposed to sort of guessing like in this video. If you have a natural double-chin, because you are fat, then you're all set.

    • @Jim_L
      @Jim_L Před 2 lety +11

      @@benjamindavis4974 Unfortunately, you're wrong on this. The "double-chin" technique works like a charm. There's no guess work involved. You easily see the line where the double-chin ends, and that's where you put the shaving cream and shave. Easy-peasy.

    • @Jim_L
      @Jim_L Před 2 lety +10

      @@benjamindavis4974 Hey, at the end of the day, if that's what you like, then that's really all that counts. I mean, truthfully, there's no real right way. There are no legal documents on any of this. 😀

      Can confirm after trimming I tried to tuck in my neck and my double chin lined up nearly perfectly with it. Just a little higher up.

      Just found these and wish I saw it sooner! I’m 3 weeks in and messed up my neck line. Middle is good height but took the line up and angle too high. Need to made a corner about 3/4” lower. Should I start over or just let it grow and work it from there?

      My neck hair grows upwards, under my chin and my cheeks grow normal (downwards) but when my beard starts getting length they meet and push out.
      It makes the neckline awkward, literally had to cut off nearly a 2 year beard because I messed up trying to fix this. My beards back to an ok length but I haven't shaped it one bit because I start to sweat when I attempt the neckline ha.
      I felt so naked when I had to completely shave off my beard an start all over

    I've been trimming my beard like that for over 50 years now. And you're absolutely right! If you get the lines "right" in the early stages of growing, it'll make your beard grow in very nicely! And it doesn't matter what kind of "look" you're wanting, scruffy, neat, full, go tee, handlebar mustache, or whatever, get those lines right in the early stages and it'll grow in and look great!

    Big thank you for this, i'm growing out my beard and everywhere i hear the same ; don't trim before the 4-week mark!" But my beard is growing very fast, cut myself clean April 8th, now, two weeks later, it's already growing thick everywhere and also below my adams apple, it's not the first time i'm growing it but i always outlined it around the 1.5-2 week mark because that's how fast my beard grows, always thought i was in the wrong for lining it so fast.

    Say just due to shaving you accidently brought your cheekline down to low, in that case should you just let your cheekline grow back naturally, or just shave it off and start over again?
    I have a 2 month + beard, and I really dont wanna start over, but I also wanna look good as well.

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  Před 11 měsíci

      Definitely just let it grow back! Shaving it all off will take much more time, letting the cheek line fill back in will only take about a week or 2, then you won't notice it at all!

The derma roller can also help activate dormant beard hairs underneath the skin and help full in patchier areas! Check out our page on beard growth products here -

    When trimming the neck, is it straight trim horizontally or curve it towards the ear?

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  Před rokem

      Personally, I'd recommend following your jawline with more of a curve so it looks a bit more natural. Once it's longer though, if you prefer more of a squared look then the horizontal trim can work too!

    What to do with the cheek line if your moustache is not connected to the beard?

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  Před 5 měsíci

      A lot of guys will still draw the line to the top of the stache, even if there is a little space there. You can also trim the cheek line a little lower to where it does connect. Also, growing the beard and stache longer will usually cover up that gap!

  • @nackjicholson1940

    I always seem to get my neckline wrong. It never quite looks right which usually results in me shaving it all off after several months of growth and then starting all over again. 🙄

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  Před rokem

      trimming your own beard can definitely be a bit daunting! Less is more when doing trims. My father always told me growing up, you want to shape the neckline along the same line that you would slit someones throat 😂 as graphic as that may sound, it helps. You want the line to be right above the adams apple and keep an even swoop going up both sides to the ear!
