  • Albion Swords Maestro Longswords long-term Review. I've owned these two swords since they were first released and they have been used extensively against different swords over their lives. Here I look at them both, review both in terms of their use as drill and sparring swords, and then look at how they stack up against the more recent designs.

    Thank you very much for the review! I would appreciate an update or second look on the Blackfencer Steel Generation Longsword. How they handled so far and how they held up since the last video. Again, thank you for your work!

      They are really good, and are very much a modern, bendier version of what I show here. A big thumbs up from me.

    I remember the first Liectenauer and especially the Meyer were too thin in the tips. We changed the grind profile pretty early. I took a shot from a Meyer into the same glove webbing between thumb and forefinger. We were sparring in the parking lot while on break. The tip of his Meyer rode right up into my glove and ended up between my palm and the grip.
    Love the review. Given that yours was one if the first there is a decent chance that I ground the blade. 😃

      Yeah, I bought it the moment they were announced to the public. It's a relic blade now!

    Awesome video. I got retired weapinry aswell ^^
    Also just saving up for steel longsword and sidesword and maybe a custom synth hussar sabre from blackfencer.
    Malleus makes the best blunts for looking realistic/bering safe. Really brilliant for when a blunt is needed in living history or reenactment. Made 3 friends buy from em already ^^

    If you don't grind out those nicks in the edge, micro-fractures in the steel will occur and then it will break at a stress point like the COP or parrying point near the hilt -- but you know that, and the swords are retired and carrying all the nicks of memories.

    OH and PLEASE do a review of the Sigi King, I was looking to buy it but alas there aren't any reviews of it.

    Let them retire with dignity
    Couldn’t have said it better myself. These old workhorses deserve rest. We should never forget how weapons like these advanced this art and took those first bold steps that led to the thriving sport we have today.

    I'm either buying the Albion Liechtenauer or the Sigi King in the near future. What are your thoughts on those 2 particular swords?

    • @MichaelGThomas
      @MichaelGThomas Před 9 měsíci

      These days, the SIGI is the one. Though I prefer the Maestro.

    So if im getting into hema and thought i wanted the albion feder, what should i be looking at in mid-2023? Im in the US btw.

    • @AcademyofHistoricalFencing
      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  Před rokem +1

      The choices you have for feders these days are mindboggling, a massive number of options, and a greta many of them are really good. Regenyei is still great, with any of his feders being good, I prefer the Trnava modles ovet the others. You can get his stuff from US resellers. If you want a cheap but sturdy feder get a VB model from Purpleheart, a good entry level option.
      Otherwise, Sigi Forge, any model, Black Fencer steel feder, Poker Armoury feder modeks. Kvetun, any of their options. Aureus (if you can get hold of one). The list goes on and on. Feders are super well catered for these days. The Albion Meyer is still good, but it's not what I would buy today despite them still being great, purely because of the issues mentioned, lack of adjustment on specs and lack of integrated safety tip.
