1:17 Why you need a speed cube
2:02 Where do you get speed cubes from?
2:52 How much should you pay for them?
3:27 Which speed cube should I get?
So apparently the MF3RS2 is no longer being produced. Rip. Still, you should get a magnetic cube.
I hope this helps some of you choose your very first speed cube as you enter the crazy and wonderful world of cubing! Of course these are my opinions only, but with prices being so low these days, it really makes sense that you get a magnetic cube. From Daily Puzzles of course. Please. Do it for the kids.
Thanks Tingman! This helped me! Stay healthy and safe!
Thanks Tingman!! I LOVE

Tingman OMG THANKS FOR LIKING MAH COMMENT :)

I was just thinking that
For people watching now, the RS3M 2020 is also very good!
Its a little bit like the QiYi MS, but its a bit newer, better and nicer feeling in my opinion. You can also change the springs which is a nice bonus.
Just ordered a second one because it's so good. I would recommend a magnet upgrade though
I bought one from sCs (speedcubershop) like betwen 14 and 19 days ago and im still waiting cuz they didnt have it in stock
I agree, very good in budget and itâs my main right now. $9 for a magnetic cube is so great
Your not wrong it's still out of stock for me so I'm waiting for the my 2nd MoYu RS3 2020 to come so I'll ha e to main with the GAN 356 AIR
rs3m 2021 maglev is a little bit better
Thanks Tingman. I'm just learning to solve so after only two days of practice with my store-bought Rubik's, I'm looking for something that is fun to use rather than frustrating. I really appreciate the recommendations.
The kids that start cubing are spoiled, having this type of quality content đź
Also my advice would be that; to just get started it doesn't really matter what cube you use (it's just to figure out the basics so a better cube won't help here) but if you don't own a cube yet, or really want to get into speed cubing, then yes the cubes Tingman recommend are awesome (although I haven't tried the thunderclap v3 yet đ€)

YOOOOOO
Nice new profile picture and love your vids keep up the great work. :D
Do you have the yulong v2m
A speed cube will allow you to turn more easily, making it easier to learn new algorithms. I know some people are just trying to solve the cube once or twice, and not aim for world records, but turning more easily means you can learn at a faster pace and will less muscle fatigue. So I disagree with you, a speed cube is better than just any old cube for learning purposes.

*RS3M, Qiyi MS, Meilong M and Yuxin little magic m*
This is the year of the budget
And low prices flagship like mgc
Now the little magic is out
BÞÞsted's WRLD ik i said that in my comment
Namuun does stuff i was happy for it
I recommend the Thunderclap v3 M bc If you get the right tension it is a very good cube it also takes time to work it out before you have good Corner cutting
Thank you! I chose the thunder clap it's a really nice felling and it's so silent.
The colors are really beautiful!
My tip: Don't buy an expensive cube right off the bat. I'm a fairly new cuber, but I've learned a lot in my time. My first cube was a Rubik's 2x2, and then went straight in for a Gan 356 RS. The Gan RS is about 18 or 20 USD, and, like stated in the video, it was a mistake because it's non-magnetic. Take his examples on some good budget magnetic cubes and buy one, but if you really want to go for a non-magnetic cube, buy the Little Magic. It's one of the cheapest cubes and can hold up at competitions, and because it's cheap, it won't be too overly taxing on your wallet. But seriously, just buy a cheap magnetic cube like stated in the video.
Benjamin Miller when I first started I got a really cheap qiyi cube or something which wasnât that worst then when I went to my first competition and was averaging like 35 secs then I got like a 35 dollar cube which I probably shouldnât have :( then for I think Christmas I got a Gans sm when I averaged like 25-30 then the Christmas two years later I got a gans xs when averaging 20-25 to start averaging like 18-23
lol i basically posted the same comment
And buy new stickers for the little magic cause the sticker quality is bad
In was just gonna comment that as i started with a qiyi warrior and then moved to gan 356 air
I bought the same gan 356 rs and itâs good but you can get a very good magnetic cube for 20$ for example the gan m for 30$
Iâve been solving the Cube since I was in high school back in 1982, (yes, Iâm old đŹ) however, I thought cubing had died out over the years, until I recently stumbled upon this video by Tingman telling me âItâs time I got a better cube.â This helped me discover that cubing had made an amazing resurgence that I was completely unaware of. I just wish I had found out much sooner that there was such a great cubing community out there! I have since got back into cubing (after many many years) and I owe it all to Tingmanâs video. So a big THANK YOU to Tingman!
Thank you for this video. My grandson is Cuber NYC, and watching his videos reminded me of the great fun I had when I bought a cube in 1980. I worked at Boeing Airplanes, and an engineer told me about the Rubik's Cube. Another engineer published a small paper on solving the cube, otherwise I might still be trying to figure it out. Rapidly it became apparent the (original) cubes were slow, so I would take mine apart, use 600-grit paper to smooth the pieces and lube it with petroleum jelly. :p I bought a QiYi clock and have enjoyed it, and decided to get a decent cube--for fun. This video is Great! Thank you for laying it out there. BTW, I can now do the clock sub-7. I set a timer for seven minutes and can finish before the timer goes off. I hope to do the cube (I ordered a Thunderclap on your advice) in sub-10 minutes. You kids are amazing in your quickness. It's fun for this old guy to watch your videos. Thank you. Stay fast, stay healthy.
Hey! Im also a cuber in NYC
Haha you too. I hope you have reached your goals!
Definitely wish I had this a few years back. I would just recommend that people do some research before buying pretty much anything. Specifically for cubing, donât stress too much over what your first speedcube will be, thereâs always gonna be a chance to upgrade as hardware improves over time. Plus, cubes at lower prices now are so good anyways! Great video, thanks for making this!
Hey Tingman,
I loved this video, just like all your other videos. Iâm really exited for what you have planned next week!
As always, keep it up đ !
Just bought a cube from dailypuzzles. I live in Australia and this is way cheaper than other websites like speedcubeshop which is only in the US, the discount code also helped a lot. I also tipped and stuff Iâm so grateful for this, thanks man you saved me 30$ on shipping etc.
Me, who already owns 4 speedcubes: "Interesting..."
Same lol
Tingman, you are simply the greatest cubing youtuber as you devote so much time and effort into entertaining us. You and Olor are so great for simply being yourselves. Thank you
Wow the tingman in this video was so excited and enthusiastic! I can feel the atmosphere changing and can't wait for what you've got planned next week!
Haha thanks. This was definitely not 2x2 Tingman!
Thanks for the advice. I was so impressed I immediately followed the link and used your code for a cube and a pyramid.
Thank you so much!
thank you tingman, i need this advice. i'm getting a GAN 14 by December, and i wanted to know how to speedcube since around 2 years ago.
How bout make olors channel Tinggirl and your son's (when he is old enough) tingboy? Like to vote and get tingman to heart this
Hi super duper, yeah I think this is a good idea
Yeah
@@SagarCubes I think so
thats nice, but have you seen his very old videos
Haha cute. I have actually considered that! But it takes enough time as it is sustaining one channel đ maybe if I ever do this full time...
I've been using a yuxin kylin v2 m that I've been reasonably happy with - honestly any cube that fits the criteria Tingman described is probably fine. I fully realize that my times (down to ~25 right now from >1 min) are dependent on my look-ahead and algorithms, and getting a more expensive cube isn't really going to help that. That said, if you think you will enjoy solving on a fancier cube and you have the money, go for it because I think the most important thing is that you're motivated to do lots of solves and practice
i'd like to add tht the more important factor is the feeling of the cube
if the feeling of the cube is shitty, u won't practice much
and vice verca
so like when u are buying, try to keep in mind the feeling of the cube too
Thank you I got the Ms magnetic and itâs so fun a little on the slippery side, doesnât have much corner cutting but itâs still great
Thank you! I just bought the WuWei M and am so excited for it to arrive

10. Think about the mf3rs
I wish I watched a video like when buying my first speed cube. I ended up with a Yuxin Fire which felt very odd then and pretty terrible now. My first ârealâ speed cube was a Gan Air, which get infinitely better then and pretty mediocre now. My first magnetic cube was a Thunderclap v3 as Tingman mentioned in the video and it felt amazing when I got it and still pretty good! My current main is a Dayan Tengyun v2, which took a while to set up but feels great now. I wish it was as quiet as the V1 though.
In summary, I can recommend the Thunderclap v3. It is a solid cube that doesnât need any adjustment out of the box. Also, itâs not too loud, which is a huge deal to me. Iâm not the fastest, but Iâve been sub 15 on the Thunderclap plenty of times, and people are able to be sub 10 with it, so it has potential. Youâll eventually outgrow it, but what you would evolve to would be something that would not be a good choice to start out with.
One tip I have for New Cubers ( I'm not very advanced, I average 18 or 19) is to please learn the most efficient ways to do algorithms. If you start doing an algorithm that is comfortable for you at the start , but is not efficient, you will be stuck with that and it's hard to change into a new habit. I still do my Uperms in the worst way possible after even 1 year. So please learn the right fingertricks
Edit: I am practicing the mu uperms with good fingertricks and i am improving a lot. Btw I average 15 to 17 seconds now, which is not much, mainly because i hadntt been cubing for some time
*i canât even since a rubikâs brand yet this is amazing*
Itâs annoying when you see beginners with 356xs and youâre stuck with a little magic
Ikrđ
it truly is annoying my friend
Also feels stupid when you know what some people who average 10-15 would give for a GAN 356 XS and you as a 27sec cuber own a 356X, 356Xv2, 356XS and Cosmic 356XS with PVC coating alongside all the other current flagships. :D.
bruh i have a local store brought as my main
IKR! my friend averages 5 minuets and has a gan xs while i have a gts3m and average sub 10
I think it's kinda funny that someone disliked the video before it came out
2 more people in 21 minutes?! They're probably non-cubers thinking that Rubik's brands are the best.
Square Root Cubing 4 now lol NON CUBERS ARISE
5 people...those meddling non-Cubers
It's kinda outrageous too that someone disliked the video even before it came out
Yeah
I am a new guy in cubes world.
And I can fully solve the 3x3 but I am a new learner. And your video helped me .
Thank you
Thank you so much this helped my grandaughter so much
I would personally recommend something like a Qiyi or maybe a yuxin magic at a low price being fairly fast but also a lot more beginner
I feel the Yuxin Kylin 3x3 V2 M would make a GREAT starting speedcube!
If youâre starting of speed cubing I recommend the QiQi cube for beginners if youâre starting off solving the cube and you only have a Rubiks brand
I am a cuber that started a few months ago, I average sub 20 and my main is a Gan 11 M pro. It is a very good flagship cube with a lot of customization options, but it is a bit pricey. If you are on a budget and want a good flagship speed cube, I recommend the Rs3m 2020 at only 14 dollars or the Gan 356 R S speed cube.
Or maybe gan 11 m duo
When you're starting out, I'd reccomend getting a fast cube because it gives you the ability to turn as fast as you want.
Too lazy to use my fingers. Can I use a drill instead?
@@ThatChester Now as fast as that might sound, you'd just take out the screw and the cube would fall apart. What you can do is purchase a Gan robot to turn it for you. Lol.
In hindsight, I think the best method would be putting one layer in the tire of a car and the other 2 layers hanging out. That would give insane speeds.
Im a cuber, and i main the GAN 356 Air M 3X3 ($35), but for new cubers, i recommend the MS Magnetic 3X3 or the Moyu 4S3M 2020 3X3 ($9) .
Isnât it the moyu rs3m 2020? ( sry I had to )
â@@SprintEventKidit is
If your a beginner cuber I would recommend starting with a non magnetic mofang cube as it should be a smoother step up from a rubik's brand but not much of a different feel but enough to feel the difference also there cheap
My first speedcube was the Yuxin Little Magic stickerless, it worked pretty well for a starter
My first main I bought was a Shengshou Wind 2x2-5x5 range off of Amazon. It was a good range of starter cubes, they're not very fast but they're much better than the Rubiks brands, and quite cheap (iirc it costed me about ÂŁ8), and I now passed them on to my dad's friend, who is getting into cubing.
If you want to buy them, good idea, however there's also slightly more expensive cubes that may be better.
I recommend the Nexcube. It has super smooth turning, decent corner cutting, and costs only about $13 (7 USD).
@@zephyrmoody3806 might give it a go since I kinda need a new cube, rn I'm using a WRM 2020 I modified
@@effie1349 ok, cool.
My biggest tip for newer cubers, is make sure to buy some lube, and clean out your cube.
Lube is meant to keep the dust out, and dust can make cube performance really bad.
Martian or gan Magic?
is there a way to clean your cube without lube?
My first speedcube was a Valk 3 and I still love it.
so helpful!
my 1st speedcube (i still use it) is the roxenda cube. ist really fast, can corner cut from like 45* (if lubed. luve is not included) and its really quiet!
I am a speed cuber with a average of around 6 to 7 seconds and I would recommend a sail w for your first speed cube because it's a budget cube with a very comfortable structure esspacially for people with small hands
I'm a good cuber for quite some time so I recommend getting a cube that is highly customable and one you are gone to use for longer
A great cube to start out with as a beginner is the yuxin little magic. It comes in both stickered and stickerless. A smooth cube for only $5. This is only my opinion but you do what makes you feel comfortable.
Hey!
I just bought a YuLong v2m and it is on the way......Iâll edit this comment as soon as I use and solve it a few times and add the time and corner cutting angles and turn speed here......
Really good videos
Olor: I am better
Ting man: no
Me : seriously
Congo on 100k subs bro ooooooommmmmgggggggggggggggggg
Keep up the great work
Wait, why was there no rs3?
Oh wait, it didnât come out yet
Been playing with a $6 dollar rubiks brand for around a year. Every time I wind up on duty for 24hrs, I grind through some new algorithms and techniques.... I'm getting to a point where I really do need something better. I just ordered a gan 356m lite, and I'm really excited to see the difference
Update: I've been playing with the gan for the last few weeks and holy crap is it a pleasure to play with. I took my old cube with me into wet and sand places so I wouldn't damage the gan.... I appreciate having a nice cube more than ever!
This is a good video for beginners let alone beginners trying to buy cubes
My personal favorites:
Budget 3x3: MoYu RS3M 2020
Itâs fully magnetized, has 2 types of customizable settings, and best of all, itâs only 8 - 9 bucks (USD)
You forgot to say that when you enter cubing theres *NO SCAPE* : )
my top tip for new cubers is to not buy too expensive of a cube, right now the mf3rs, yuxin little magic and meilong are all really good 3x3s, and by the time you get faster and you need a better cube, cubing hardware might have improved.
edit: you could magnetize these cubes however there are cubes that are factory magnetic that are really good. like the thunderclap v3m, or if you can find it, a magnetic mf3rs2
I still think that the Ms is ahead of the cubes you mentioned. Ms has get great review from all the cubing channel who review it and most importantly J perm. Mf3rs is very tight out of the box. Little magic is a bit slow and mielong is below average cube out of the box. Out of the box performance matter for beginners and magnitize version of them are over $15 which is the price of Wuewie M.
The qiyi ms is SOOOOO awesome so I would recommend that one
when i bought my first speedcube the Little Magic wasnt popular
mf3rs2 is discontinued tho
Thanks for this video. It took me 42 years to solve the cube for the first time đ€Ł. I got the basic Rubikâs Cube and have a best time of 1:47. Corner cutting has been the most annoying thing as I work on getting faster. I ordered my first speed cube today from GAN. Looking forward to improving even more.
Just got myself a GAN I carry as my first official cube at 42, after my 4 year old showed interest. Had a cube in my late teens and could solve under a minute before I have up the hobby. Wish me luck

@@Chickeneater_69420 or lost... depending
You need to find one that's suits YOU. I've been cubing for about 3-4 months now. I was, like most, nieve to anything else besides the original Rubik. I learned to solve the cube on it, but it was a hindrance and while I was enjoying the learning process, the hardware was depressing. I sourced two cheap speedcubes' and yes turning was better but was the cubes were unstable. Then I quickly learned about Magnets. I'll never buy another non magnetic cube, as a main contender. Anyways, a cheapish magnetic cube got me thru learning an advanced method, just like the Rubik did for the beginner method. But then I started to time myself, and noticed my turning results should be better. Time to get a main I thought. I ended up getting the Valk elite 3, and also order the little magic. The little magic was stickerless, which REALLY was new and my new preference, but the cube was so unstable. But the Valk was stickered. Sad face. Instead of dropping another 79$ on a Valk stickerless, I bought the 356M. I've had that cube for about 3-4 weeks now. It cost me 59$. It a great cube for my style I feel. Doesn't need lube either, unlike the Valk. I'm currently teaching my 7 year old daughter to solve, and as a reward for solving her first cube I'm buying her her own cube; she uses the little magic over the Valk, I've decided to buy her the Moyu WR M. I'll likely upgrade mine to an XS soon I feel. I suggest getting the best cube you can afford ASAP. Speedcubing is a giant learning experience, I've learned, and watched my daughter learn, and there's a long learning road ahead, so get the best cube you can, the earlier you can. It promotes better habits, a better learning experience and gives superior results earlier. Avoid cheap cubes; unless it's to work out if you prefer stickers or stickerless. Dont buy a 80$ stickered cube to then discover you should of opted for the stickerless version đ€Šââïž
Iâm a decent cuber and I recommend the moyu rs3m 2020. Btw I love ur videos Tingman!

edit: haha i get those doe
To be honest u can get a sub-30 on a Rubikâs brand cube but the feeling it is not good at all.
You can get a sub 10
Oh and tip for new cubers, an 8 dollar cube called the rs3m is currently my main and itâs fantastic
My tip is that if u wanna find ur first cube watch reviews of all the cubes u want and after that decide which one best suits u and which one u would like a good cube for beginners would be the jperm rs3m 2020
I'm here in 2021, I would recommend the RS3 M 2020 for new and good speed cubers
Creds to jperm
Please make "how to be sub -x" series tingman
Love your videos a lot BTW.đđđ
Probably the best tip i have is probably go for a magnetic budget cube such as a Moyu Meilong 3M, Or Yuxin Little Magic
if there is no cap to the money limit, get a really good cube like an 11M pro or a weilong WR M, also buy lube, i would recommend lunar, Martian and dmn-37
Easy. Get a budget Meilong, then a better GAN

Get a magnetized cube sticker less with a good lube watch a diff vid for that also another good store to go to is the cubicle there you can get different sized Rubik's cubes to fit your hand size in order to have a more comfortable feel when holding your Rubik's cube

I have been cubing for about 6 months and I would 100% recommended the RS3M 2020. It is only 9 dollars and have the same proformace as 70$ cubes. Sure there might be better ones for higher prices but this is a amazing starting cube.

the best budget cubes are the rs3m 2020, qiyims 2x2, meilong 4x4, and qiyims pyraminx
My top budget cube is the MoYu RS3 2021 itâs cheap and really good pretty good magnets and I got my pb on it (16.8) and it corner cut amazingly
Watch a bunch of reviews of cubes
Also think on what your turning style would be so you can pick the correct cube
I would say it isn't too good to get a magnetic cube for your first speed cube because the feeling is very different and takes time to get used to so I would say get a cube that has decent corner cutting and nice turning.
