    🛹🧡 I'm 53 years old, and I've been teaching myself Spanish and how to play piano and read music. And I got back into skateboarding after 37 years. And I love your videos. Super inspirational. I've learned a lot of tips and tricks from you and tried a lot of tricks watching your videos 💙🛹 and your flat ground freestyle is very awesome. Maybe better than you know...

    Thank you for sharing! I tried to skate as a kid and failed😅, got back to it in my 30's, broke a leg, had to start again, but I reaaaally enjoy it! And now I can ollie, no-comply and shove it, and a lot of that is thanks to your videos! the content you make is super helpful and motivating😊

      @@thegreatlegend98 That is pretty close to what happened to me! It takes time, patience to let your body heal. For me it was almost a year to full recovery. And then of course I was a little afraid, but I started cruising around trying to get more comfortable on the board, and that helped with rebuilding my confidence and some strength. I hope you are able to skate again soon! Take care😊

    Loved hearing your story, Sarah! A love of skating is something I've always had in me but never had the opportunity to learn as a kid or the guts to learn as an adult. I finally decided to start learning this year and have been cruising multiple times a week and using it as transportation to and from work. I just feel so stoked every time I finish a sesh and have gotten to explore so many cool places that I wouldn't have if I was just driving everywhere. Keep up the great content!!

    Thank you Sarah for your channel. I also run a channel and started it soon after I started skateboarding in, (Oh God!) 42 years old and freestyle has captivated me, mostly thanks to your channel. Now I video my progress, sometimes also simple training videos (in Russian, from Russia, we have almost no freestyle) or just to motivate myself and others to ride the board whenever they want, at any age, and in any style. ❤🎉

    It's great that you're sharing these parts of your journey with the world! It's daunting but from a viewer's perspective it feels very natural and honest. What you mentioned not finding in other tutorial videos is precisely why I've started following you. There's oftentimes a reductive approach in tutorial videos. "Put your feet here and then SLAM IT" -- but I find a lot more to relate to in your approach: it's calm and thought out and precise. I think the community you're building gravitates towards those kinds of values. So thank you, and thanks to your partner too for getting you into this!!!
    PS: I landed my first, honest-to-bolts shuvits yesterday (I screamed so loud I thought I was gonna get kicked out the parking lot). And a couple ollies! And it's definitely thanks to the precise information you present here :)

      first of all, congrats on that first honest to bolts shove it! That's amazing 💪 stoked for you!! And also, thank you 🙏 honestly, sometimes it's still a little daunting. The idea of posting videos. But, hearing that they help definitely gives me courage. I'm always trying to make the videos I wished I saw when I started. That's typically my goal--though, now I am having some fun exploring! So, I'm really glad to hear that. Will do my best to make even better tutorials in the future 🫡

    1:00 interesting. In my country, back in 2013, the Hallyu was already in full gear. K-Pop groups like SNSD dominated the airwaves and Korean TV shows like Running Man were all the rage, so many people suddenly wanted to visit/study in Korea, wanted to learn the language etc. I guess it only caught on in the US a few years later.
    What made you wanted to study Korean in the first place?

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yeah, for the US, kpop had a much slower growth. Now, even if you aren't a fan, you most likely have heard of BTS. But like, only hallyu fans or people very familiar with Korea knew who SNSD was in 2013 or any kpop group/drama.
      I studied French and a little Latin in middle/high school and loved it. So, I at the end of high school I wanted to study a language that had no overlap with English grammatically or a shared alphabet lol I was going to study Japanese because it seemed to be a pretty popular choice, but by chance I found a penpal in Korea, and that was the start 🙌

    Thoroughly enjoyed this Sarah:) and it reminds me of a homie that use to skate freestyle doing similar tricks to u as well that i would so enjoy watching now.. Whats enjoyable about this, is that its a full skate video part. You can sense the introvertedness in your style and wisdom to express via literacy (hence your connection and love of languages). its quite possible that many freestyle skateboarders are introverted or have introverted moments in their lives, even rodney mullen is like that and he is mildly autistic as well, But thats an assumption on possible many, not the freestyle lot. Really enjoy your content, style and gear, its enjoyable and relaxing to watch, cuz u landing and expressing masterfully but also have such carefullness with your skating landing with finesse instead of fear. Its Art. Keep it up! these skate vids and skate diaries in one!

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Před 6 měsíci +1

      thank you so much Luke! I really appreciate that. Sometimes I wonder about the more skate diary videos I make--perhaps because I love language & writing, I've always thought of them as skate essays. So, it's nice to see someone connect or enjoy this style too! And totally. I think because you can skate completely alone, skateboarding does attract quite a few introverts in general. And freestyle particularly because you don't even have to visit a skate park.

After about two weeks back on a board I can ollie and kickflip knee high, do 50-50s and pop into Casper but not do anything with it. Some other basic stuff. Not bad I think. Walking the dog is hard. I am learning monster walks and getting pretty good at endovers. I like doing those right into a nollie shove it. Rail flips hurt. I fall a lot. Rail walks are super tough. So how's the skating community in Korea? Are there many places to skate? A friend who lives there told me rollerblading on the sidewalks is forbidden in many cities/neighbourhoods, so I assume skating is frowned upon as well.

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  Před 5 měsíci

      The skate communities seem to be rather small compared to how large some of the cities are. But they also seem pretty tight knit. It looks like more parks and indoor options are popping up. There are a few parks, but street skating is quite frowned upon 😂 which is understandable from non-skater points of view. I know Korea built a ton of infrastructure designed for walking and “moving” of people particularly in residential areas. So, even bikes are often not allowed. And people mostly respect it. Never heard of that for regular sidewalks. But I didn’t have a bike or anything when I actually lived there. So, probably just unaware of it 🤔
