@Michael Knight It must be really hard to change your opinion. Because I think know where you are coming from, you probably get all your sources from the media, and probably aren't close to many police officers. Even the kindness from the police officers in the video did not budge you at all.
So I just want to know this information. A good story has conflict; the media reports on this conflict. There was no conflict in this encounter: You won't see "man follows orders and is arrested" as a headline, ya get me? If you strongly believe the police are bad, the media will only make that opinion of yours more valid in your head. All I want you to see is how different sources of information can have different stories. More personal stories from the police departments will probably won't change as many details from other sources.
So, if you're going to criticize anything, I would prefer for people to look at both sides, no matter how bad it seems. Because seeing the other side of a story, and STILL disagreeing with it, shows how more right you are, instead of seeing one side of a story and disregarding anything else the police have to say.

@@airgearmaster123 Exactly. Being honest and respectfully cooperating will do you some real good when dealing with police as the honesty makes the job of the officers easier, and the show of respect and cooperation likewise makes the officers jobs easier and also helps them relax and not feel the need to potentially fear for their lives. As long as you do your part to help make the officer's jobs easier, then they will most likely return the favor by offering you as much leniency as they can, and in some cases that sort of attitude might even let you get off with nothing more than a warning. Officers appreciate it when they don't have to worry about their own safety or the safety of others.

Accepting reality and being respectful led to this man being treated with respect. I'm not arguing you should just admit to crimes, let the police do whatever they want, or otherwise incriminate yourself. I'm arguing that accepting reality and being an adult is always the best option. If the reality is you're caught, then accept it, be respectful and mature and things go far better than fighting or running. Too often, people refuse to accept the reality of their encounters and they end up in a far worse situation than they needed to be in.

When i was 17 i got caught with a bag of weed and because i was honest with the officer he let me go and keep the weed. He told me because i was honest and respectful he was not going to arrest me and that he never saw the weed and to go home.

This year ive been pulled over 8 times, some for going over double the posted, drifting (reckless driving) and street racing. I have ZERO TICKETS this just because i talk with respect and intelligence. I admit and agree to everything. When you finish sentencing your fees for jail / prison are added in ahead of time. The money is brought in so there is a signed record by the perp of how much cash. Keeps people from claiming cops stole money. Also every jail and prison gets a dollar amount per day you are in. That is why you are released typically after 2am. So they get that extra booking fee from State. Why else release a criminal at 2am lol

    B) Answer all questions honestly.
    C) Remain calm and for God sakes be polite even if the officer(s) are being dicks.
Of course these are all subjective. So many variables to take and consider. The biggest would be the officer him/herself. There are alot of good men/woman in law enforcement and alot of rotten POS as well. It sucks that this guy went to jail but he did everything correctly once the traffic stop was initiated. Police forces won't change their image simply by showcasing a simple act of kindness that even just a civilian SHOULD carry out without recognition. Let alone a police officer that is SUPPOSED to serve and protect civilians. Serving that man by making sure he has what he needs after he gets released is just that, serving him. Protecting him and his future by making sure he doesn't lose his job. The fact that this simple action was showcased tells me that their standard of a job well done is exponentially lower than it should be.
The video of the officer delivering groceries to a person who tried to steal them because they couldn't pay is the type of behavior that deserves to be showcased in the way this video is, as an act of selflessness. I'm telling you, coming from a felon that also lives in Orlando that just got out of prison in 2016, it's hard to make a living without driving. I have a ton of respect for this guy trying to work and make a real living instead of selling drugs or robbing people. Hope he gets out, gets his license and proceeds to go in the right direction.

This is exactly how we heal the fractured relationship between citizens and law enforcement. He broke the law. He knows it. He was very cooperative and honest and just accepted the punishment for his wrong choice(s). The officers in turn didnt have to do all they did to help him. They didnt have to not charge him for the drugs. They didnt have to give him plenty of opportunity to call who he needs to to get his stuff and have a plan for bond. They didnt have to care about him enough to offer to switch his slides to his work boots so he could work the next day. They also didn't have to offer his girl to come speak to him when she arrived on scene. This was a very refreshing interaction which serves as an example how all police interactuons should be! Good job!

Bodycams on officers that are designed to protect both the officer and the civilian also take the options out of the officers hands. There are protocols that have to be followed, because if that guy happened to get into an accident (which happens all the time) and unfortunately killed someone, those cops would be part liable for letting him go without a license.
