    Pirlo's vision and composure in the first goal is out of this world. I remember I was watching this game with my dad and we were screaming at him to shoot, since he had the angle and was open, yet he dribbles one extra time luring another defender, looks for space and finds Grosso completely unmarked. It's an incredible goal and Pirlo puts all his talent on display.

    • @TheGuggo
      @TheGuggo Před 3 lety +56

      Another remarkable fact is that Pirlo saw Grosso at first and went onto dribbling the German defenders without looking at him anymore and still passing the ball to Grosso while not looking at him. Pirlo looks at Grosso only after passing the ball. The defender had no idea to stay close to Grosso. Pirlo Made sure he could be alone when kicking the ball.
      That’s mastery of football.

    • @PLayAshEFF72
      @PLayAshEFF72 Před rokem +5

      And the other impressive thing was how the ball came to him, he deaded it in one touch, and was instantly assessing what he could do with it and chose the best option.

    As an American 11 year old child my family just happened to be in Italy for this match. I had only seen a couple of matches of soccer before ever in my life. I’ll never forget after the final whistle blew, running out of our hotel with an Italian flag tied to a wooden spear yelling Italy Italy. I was the first person out there and people started cheering me and Italy from their buildings. Soon a whole crowd emerged and the city wide party started. My sister carried me on her shoulders through the weaving roads and over the canals. Eventually I went off on my own wearing my sisters high heels so I wouldn’t get glass in my feet. I’ll never forget that day for the rest of my life. It was a big part of what made me fall in love with the sport. Really wish we could have been there for the final though

Germany played insane match, total football, and Italy played like I never seen them before, defense was stone cold solid. And of course Buffon was a huge factor, he saved clear goals (Schweinsteiger at the end for instance, he did same in final when he saved Zidan's header)...and also, Del Piero is my football idol ;-)

Especially by Del Piero. If u notice he was defending in penalty box and as soon as Cannavaro came out he just blasted all the way from his own box through the entire field. 4 touches were Extraterrestrial: by Cannavaro blitz, Totti pass across the field, Gilardino holding the ball waiting for Del Piero and Del Piero finish. There was better spread of talent for sure. The gap between teams, especially in the 2006 World Cup was way less than now. In 2006 any quarter final and even some round of 16 teams could have won it. Look at Argentina’s team, the Netherlands etc. incredible teams in this tournament. And it reflects on how competitive club soccer was at the time too. The top 5 premier league teams at the time were true contenders for the championship. Juventus were actually scary, AC Milan was godly, Inter was scary too. A good spread of lots of talent across many teams made soccer great back then

      Italy 100% percent deserved the 2006 WC. Dominated defensively, conceding only two goals (fluke own goal against U.S.A and a b.s pen from a malouda dive). And we scored 13 goals that tournament (instead of 7 goals like spain in 2010) so stfu with "catenaccio", when instead everyone is just jealous that we have the best defenders in the history of football AND KNOW HOW TO DEFEND.
      Everyone keeps talking about the b.s italy pen against Australia... what about the completely unfair direct red card given to materazzi on tackle which should've been maximum a yellow at most, and italy until that unfair red card were dominating and were left with 10 men for nearly a full half, and no one would know if italy would've scored or not. We then went on to dominated ukraine (obviously inferior, but still a victory). We beat the hosts scoring two great goals and defending beautifully. And the final finished with a dive by malouda giving the french a 1-0 lead and then a goal of materazzi and toni (onside). And everyone keeps saying that zidane wasn't there for the penalty shoot-out, yet TREZEGUET WAS MEANT TO TAKE IT ANYWAY.
