    Germany was good already in 2010, but Spain was unreal. Arguably one of the top 3 national sides of all time, together with Hungary 1954 and Brazil 1970. The full magic of the Barcelona midfield with Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta on display, plus Xabi Alonso's intelligence and Ramos' dynamism. The Barca fullbacks and behind them Casillas kept things tight at the back.
    The only thing Spain was missing was a top notch center forward - somebody who could have taken Messi's or Ronaldo's role. Villa and Torres did not quite match up. So Spain won matches 1-0 they should have won 3-0 or 4-0, and the midfielders and defenders had to score the goals.

    • @herodot2
      @herodot2 Před 8 lety +96

      +Bryan Sanchez Not my view. I agree that Italy in 2006 had a fine team that is generally underrated. But they were close to losing to the US and Australia early on - not necessarily football powerhouses - and won the semi (against a mediocre Germany, compared to 2010) and final only after nail biters that could have gone the other way just as well.
      True is that Spain won many matches only 1-0 in 2010. But if you saw these, you know that their opponents still had no whisker of a chance - as they did not get the ball. This semifinal is a point in case. And it's not only 2010 for Spain, it's also 2008 and 2012. For half a decade, the furia roja dominated world football as few national teams have. One can of course debate whether it's top 3 or 5 or 10, but I for my part am sure that when our era will become history, this team will be counted as one of the greatest national sides of all time.

    • @bs2055
      @bs2055 Před 8 lety +10

      +herodot2 Italy only allowed two goals at that WC 1 was an own against the U.S which ended in a tied and the other goal was the penalty of Zidane! That mediocre team of Germany was great just had bad luck! Spain lost their first game, won against Honduras and barely won against chile.. And only scoring 8 goals while Italy 12.. Italy was a better team back then there was a lot of more international competition that's why Spain ended up dominated from 08 to 12 which only is 4 years compare to Brazil that dominated from 94 to 2007

    • @herodot2
      @herodot2 Před 8 lety +39

      Bryan Sanchez Germany in 2006 was "great"? Ouch. There were players like Borowski, Odonkor, Neuville and Metzelder in the line-up who today wouldn't make Germany's C team. Now 2010 had Mesut Ozil, Thomas Mueller, Manuel Neuer, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira - the nucleus of the 2014 team. Ozil and Mueller alone injected a pace and variability into Germany's game that was badly missing in 2006. The only significant players in 2006 who were good enough for 2010 were Phillip Lahm and Miro Klose (Schweinsteiger was very young and a subsititute in 2006 who, when he played, played on the wings)
      And it's not how many goal a team makes or conceded in a WC. It's how they play. Italy was a no-show in 2006 until the quarterfinal, were in grave danger against teams they should control. Then they found their groove, and played with a beautiful, understated class that rightly won them the WC. But Spain in 2010 controlled their opposition. If you saw that match against Switzerland you will know it was a freak result, the Swiss grouping around their box for 90 minutes and having ONE chance to score from a long ball. What Spain did with a classy Germany in this semifinal must go down as one of the most stunning performances in World Cup history.
      Btw, Brazil dominated from 1994 to 2007? As I recall, Brazil was twice shredded to pieces by Zinedine Zidane alone in this period."Domination" is different. 2006 Brazil was one of the weaker Brazilian teams in history. In any case, I don't know a team that would have dominated world football for longer than 4 years. Actually, only 2: Brazil 1958-62, Spain 2008-12. Perhaps Hungary 1951-54.
