Emma speaks with Krystal Ball, host of Breaking Points, to round up the week in news.
    kr...
    / breakingpoints
Krystal Ball dives right into the recent State Supreme Court decision out of Alabama officially establishing embryos as children and effectively outlawing IVF treatment, exploring the Chief Justice’s insane Biblical defense, how it gives away the game on the right’s end goals with reproductive constrictions, and what it means for reproductive care in Alabama moving forward. Next, Ball and Emma parse through the recent mainstream media coverage of Biden’s age issues and their attempt to convince us of his totally real behind-the-scenes spryness, tackling the role it plays heading into the presidential election, and what to make of the question of voting between someone facilitating a genocide, and someone who definitely would also facilitate a genocide, before briefly assessing the (however slim) possibility of a Kamala Harris candidacy. They then touch on recent news about US intelligence downplaying Israeli evidence of UNRWA participation on October 7th, and what to make of the US’ active facilitation of this genocide in the face of their own intelligence and mass public objection, then wrapping up the interview by touching con Krystal’s recent coverage of Julian Assange’s extradition trial.

We already know about Trump. This channel leans far more progressive than establishment Dems who still thinks they can win with finger wagging instead of taking action.
People only turned out for Biden because we wanted Trump out.
Biden has proven his administration is far too weak to affectively fight against far right and Christian Nationalist because that would require rolling up their sleeves and going against the status quo.
Too many people are hnder the delusion that America can go back to where it was in the 90s while ignoring all the problems that lead up to it.
Milquetoast presidents dont move the needle. They're content in normalizing the current state we're in because radical change is far tol scary in either direction.
Thats why Dems struggle and get steamrolled overtime because they lose a chunk of their voter base while Republicans will crawl over broken glass to get to the polls.

What was utterly appalling to me was her doomerism and her equating literal fascists and corporate Dems as equally harmful to America.
She was part of the crowd, for a while, that was saying "we need to strongarm the Democratic party with the fact the fascists are going to destroy Democracy if we want more progressive candidates". For a long time she was advocating for using Democracy as a bargaining chip.
She did wise up though, especially in that debate that her and Kyle had with that duplicitous snake, BJG. But even then, she had to keep reiterating how much she hates Biden and how bad he is just so that she doesn't come across as a Dem.
She was literally making arguments similar to "Dems don't want you to have higher wages and they don't want to uplift workers by making the corporations pay, therefore they're as bad as the fascists who want to install a conservative theocracy".

Progressives need to unite and realize we have to strategize for the long term, because just expressing our anger with our vote does absolutely nothing to move us toward better policy or peace in the world. The reason the white Christian nationalists are getting their way with the overturn of Roe and with insane laws in red states is because they have worked together for decade after decade focused on that goal. Any Republican win just solidifies this and sets them up to go further.
It should not be ignored that Republicans are talking about using the military against citizens here at home, prison or worse for political opponents and media that criticizes them, controlling people’s personal lives in ways we haven’t seen before. The IVF situation is just the tip of the iceberg.
We can be frustrated or angry with the Democrats, but right now they are the only tool we have to prevent worse, here and abroad. Third parties and independents have to get power by running for seats they can win, not waste time with fantasies about starting out at the top. It’s not a difficult decision for me to vote to protect my family, friends and neighbors, as well as prevent worse in the rest of the world.

Have you forgotten all the weapons Trump sold to the Saudis to use in Yemen? The Muslim bans? How much he admires Netanyahu? Are you unaware that it’s House Republicans holding up aid to Ukraine?
And a second term of Trump would bear no resemblance to the first where there were normal Republicans in his administration. He and his cohorts have been open about plans to fire many thousands of government workers and install folks who say yes to anything. They talk about using the military against protestors, setting up prison camps for political opponents, and getting rid of any critical media.

Housing? Economy? 11m new homeless, household debt at 2009 levels, corporations and the 1% richer than any president has ever made them before
Environment? Bidens approved more oil drilling and sold more land to oil companies than Bush and Trump combined.

They will change only when it hurts them.
If they see large block of voters voting Green for example causing them to lose the election, after crying and whining in public they will change their policies.
Regarding their approach to Palestine, the demand should be simple, just like with S.A apartheid - allow the displaced Palestinians back to their lands and one person one vote - both are very basic concepts of democracy.

"This line of thinking" is the inevitable result of the way our electoral rules are set up; to change the game, we'd have to change the rules. Which we should. But until that happens, we are stuck in a 2-party system, with vary rare realignments that result in still being in a 2-party system.

I fear what would really happen is he would get close to nothing done, or worse, start trying to compromise with the oligarchs and falling for their optics trap. His supporters would grow frustrated, feel betrayed, and eventually all that support would transform into scorn because nobody would understand that the president's powers are actually very narrow and well defined and unless you can wheel and deal with the movers and shakers, or are willing to play very very dirty in a day and age where microphones and cameras are literally everywhere, you're going to end up a lame-duck.@@kellybrown9086

Wait I’m confused. Democrats had at least 26 other Democratic opponents to choose from other than Joe Biden during the Democratic presidential nominee race. They chose none of the other 26. The list includes Michael Bennet, Bill de Blasio, Cory Booker, Steve Bullock, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro, John Delaney, Mike Gravel, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, John Hickenlooper, Tulsi Gabbard, Kamala Harris, Jay Inslee, Wayne Messam, Beto O’Rourke, Tim Ryan, Bernie Sanders, Joe Sestak, Eric Swalwell, Elizabeth Warren, Marianne Williamson, Andrew Yang, Deval Patrick, Tom Steyer, and Michael Bloomberg. If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t Joe Biden 78 years old when he was inaugurated? Did democrats just wake up and figure this out? I believe Joe Biden was the second oldest candidate running in 2020. But now the talking heads are concerned about his age? If they were so concerned, there were at least 24 younger choices but democrats didn’t elect any of them. Why not? What’s the real problem here? No one brings up that fact Reagan experienced mental decline during his presidency that was hidden from the public. Reagan’s own son said he saw the signs of his father’s mental decline 3 years into his dad’s first term. Go back and watch the 1984 debate with Walter Mondale. So TMJR what is your real concern? I don’t think it’s Biden’s age. Let’s be truthful here. I watched the channel for some time because I thought you guys were part of a solution, but it seems like you guys are just an extension of the problem. What right did you lose?

Also, id agree with you, but trump will A) help completely level Palestinians. If you think he's better then Joe on that issue you are dead wrong, and B) trump will go fascist. And you're right, we're not a Democracy, we are a federation. I believe in full democracy, and trump is the biggest threat. He def won't go more democratic, and a federation is a hell of a lot closer to a democracy. And we already have a federation, not like the "libs" did that

Also the right DENIED the border deal. Dems reached across the isle, using a trump idea, and the Right denied it out of spite. They actively want our country to get worse to justify fascism. It's so much worse.

@@Yummypoison0 you mean instead of green lighting and arming the genocide, trump will nuke Palestine?

@@Yummypoison0 bodily autonomy. I am a mother of three and my last pregnancy had complications galore. It happened a few months before roe was overturned, but I mourned it anyway. The decision to continue or terminate the pregnancy was mine at that time, but wouldn’t be a few months later. It was the most difficult time in my life and it was torturous; every week it was you’re gonna die or the baby is going to die and additional problems. I wanted that pregnancy, but I also had a husband, a six month old (who I couldn’t pick up, and was on bed rest for her whole first year of life) I had a five year old who needed her mom. Through an intense amount of prayer and meditation, we somehow got through the pregnancy, and I have a fabulous one year old; but that was my decision to make with my doctor, my family, and my God. The government-filled with corrupt asshats who are all bought and paid for. We have a corporate oligarchy. You don’t even get on the ballot without being placed on it by the powers of the party and the $$. Citizens United needs to be overturned. The court needs to be expanded immediately. We need a constitutional convention. Childhood poverty eradicated. Medical debt and student loan debt eliminated immediately. Medicare for all. A trade school for training EPA, FDA, AG etc inspectors. A whole new industry like we did with the army corps of engineers. There are a lot of things we can do, the status quo just won’t. We have to get rid of the military industrial complex. Universal daycare. This is the richest country on the planet, it doesn’t have to be a death spiral dump. We’ve been locked out of imagining a better world. I got babies, Im not handing this pile of smoldering garbage down to them; continue destroying the planet like tomorrow is irrelevant. Nope, sorry, the Democrats have allowed the issues we are facing to get to where they are today. Two wings of the same poisoned bird.

Try not to encourage too many people to vote third party and help Trump win. There's already enough Jimmy Dores, ok?

Listen, I'm furious at Biden, I wish anyone else would run against him for the primary. but when the choice is between a Fascist and not a Fascist. I know where to vote 100% of time. it's asinine and irresponsible to suggest otherwise.

Capitalism has moved everything and everyone towards fascism. Fact. We need an overhaul of how business is done like making corporations put their primary fiduciary responsibility to workers before lazy mooching shareholders.

"The United States was never a Democracy but a Republic," and now we see for ourselves the full, naked meaning behind that piece of the Republican Party's antidemocratic rhetoric.

"No better option" Get TF out of here with that crap. Netanyahu is a piece of garbage but using right wing governments' behavior abroad to equate our internal options is absolute insanity. Checking out.
