They're emulating his style, meaning they're learning how to argue disingenuously, and may not even notice they're doing it. It's a terrible foundation to start from, and it honestly makes me so tired. All this ground was trod and trod again in what seems was just a few years ago (2016-17, i think, when SH was getting so much traction and covered a lot on MR, so more like 8). I wonder, would MB be as tired as me? We sure could use the guy right now. Miss him. RIP Michael, indeed.

I'm a Christian myself, so I have some biases, but I do not believe religion is the source of evil. I believe Right-Wing politics is, and that it co-opts the religions (or in this case, Atheism even) to achieve its goal of dividing and preventing solidarity.
You CHOOSE if your view of religion is going to include oppressing others. It does NOT have to include that.

And yes, for some, religion gives them the blind courage to fight back ( belief in God gives warriors the strength to kill and die). A materialistic atheist must see the evil in the action , not the belief. The belief is just an imagination; the killing is what is evil. Yet somehow, for these so-called atheists, killing 1000 people is terribly evil because of the belief behind it, yet killing tens of thousands is OK because that belief is better. The new atheists have all gone pro religious wars. To say that's a disappointment is an understatement.

1:37 “jihadist” is such a vague term… basically the concept of Jihad means “struggle” - either the struggle to overcome an external enemy, or overcome your own inclination to sin, or to proselytise the word of god. It’s putting your personal desires aside for God.
Like somebody who is dealing with alcohol dependency and trying to quit because they want to be closer to God could be said to be engaging in Jihad. It’s a praiseworthy thing to do.
Describing Hamas as “jihadist” is missing the point- because the primary thing motivating them is not religion, it’s Palestinian nationalism and separatism from Israel. This isn’t a holy war, it’s a war about territory and rights.

I lost all respect with Sam a few weeks after he made he did a podcast where he went into what he called "moral ambiguity" which is where he claimed there are acts that in their very nature CANNOT be excused. This is what he calls "moral ambiguity" and that certain things have ZERO "moral ambiguity" and there is NOTHING to excuse it.
My problem with Sam was that he DOES NOT apply this equally to the Israelis and Palestinians. He DOES NOT really (or clearly) distinguish that within each of these groups there is an incredible variety of ideology. He simply lumps everyone in each group into a single category which is just ignoring reality.
He claimed in that podcast that what Hamas did was a crime and that there was NOTHING "morally ambiguous" to cloud that judgement - IT WAS WRONG and required a response. On that I do not fault Sam Harris. What Hamas did was WRONG and there is nothing "morally ambiguous" about that it was wrong and needed a response.

The difference, yes there r Islamic freedom fighters who grew out of oppression, but there is still a call for idolators to b killed, the same is implied for infidels, within the Quran itself.
None of this excuses any violence from any group including the Nazis. But explaining why Islamic extremists r actually just orthodox in their adherence to scripture is not racist (as these hosts work hard to claim) nor is it Islamaphobia.
Harris is making the point that having a group committed to an ideology exploited by a man or group of men is bad, but having that violence inspired by religious scripture is worse.

5:40: US people think that the Nazis (= Nationalists like Trump declared himself one) was a lower-class movement??! I think my eyes fall out...
But OK, hardcore US right-wing Nationalists keep on claiming that Nazi is the abbreviation of Socialist (which is Sozi)
The german industry of course loved the fascist regime, it was a depression, and the Nazis started dozens and dozens of giant projects, where you could earn a fortune. Say
    - the complete rearmament of Germany, that were only allowed a tiny more or less police force until the Nazis simply cancelled the contract with France and UK
    - the autobahns
    - have a look at Prora on the island of Rügen, a 4 km (2.5 miles) long continuous holiday complex at the coastline
    - in any case the holiday industry boomed, was massively subventioned. The workers should be kept happy, and they really got stuff that was unprecedented.
    - the Volkswagen Beetle
    - Hitler's Gigantomania, his giant buildings that he planned and that were partly built. E.g. in Nürberg there is still some giant place around.
Hitler wanted to completely redo Berlin, tear half of it down for giant halls.
    - and and and...
In all these projects the control wa s by the Partei, but the project was executed by private companies - you could make millions with that.

Hitler was an avid Richard Wagner fan. The bomb(lol)astic, heroic style of his music was exactly what he wanted.
So he was a regular visitor of the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. THE meeting place for the cream of the crop.
E.g. Bertha Krupp invited him. She was totally fascinated by him, kept on admiring him long after the war until her death. She was part of the Krupp dynasty, and Krupp (along with Thyssen) is synonymous for german steel (and military equipment). "Hart wie Kruppstahl" (tough like Krupp steel) was a common saying when you wanted to express the power and unwaivering determination of a man (got a little out of fashion after the Third Reich ;-)).

But it is clear that in the US the Corporations do not want to admit that it needs corporations to establish a totalitarian regime, and that they are eager to cooperate with one when profits are looming.

Living in Texas, I know a few evangelical people.
Recently, I was in an argument with an evangelical, who avidly supports the actions of the Israel Gov.
He attempted to justify his support by saying that Jewish people are the chosen people of God, but when i asked him what he thinks happens to non-christians after they die, he did not want to answer me.
I asked him the same question multiple times and, each time, he refused to answer.....because the truth is that we both know he thinks all non christians are going to burn in hell forever.
He honestly thinks that burning in hell forever is a just punishment for simply not sharing his religious beliefs......and that is extremely disturbing and very telling.
The truth is that he thinks jews, as well as every other non-christian, deserves the ultimate eternal punishment of literally experiencing the constant pain of burning forever.
It really makes me wonder what actually motivates him in this context...because his claims regarding his motivations are not sincere, especially when he refuses to answer a question that he knows will reveal his contradiction.
He is not being contradictive accidentally, otherwise he would have answered my question, without being aware of the contradiction. Instead, he wanted to change the subject. He was smart enough to know that his answer to my question would be a doorway to discussing ulterior motives that he prefers not to acknowledge.
It is my opinion that any belief that promotes THE AGONY OF BURNING FOREVER, as a correct punishment for those, who do not conform, IS rooted in terrorism....and many modern evangelicals see the terrorism of Netanyahu, as a means of perpetuating their own religious terrorism.

Calling the violent loss of a loved one "being martyred" is a coping mechanism to ease the pain of loss, I doubt it works any better than when a westerner says "I'm sorry for your loss".

    And
    "Be Hard On Your Opinions
A famous bon mot asserts that opinions are like arse-holes, in that everyone has one. There is great wisdom in this… but I would add that opinions differ significantly from arse-holes, in that yours should be constantly and thoroughly examined.
We must think critically, and not just about the ideas of others. Be hard on your beliefs. Take them out onto the verandah and beat them with a cricket bat.
Be intellectually rigorous. Identify your biases, your prejudices, your privilege.
Most of society’s arguments are kept alive by a failure to acknowledge nuance. We tend to generate false dichotomies, then try to argue one point using two entirely different sets of assumptions, like two tennis players trying to win a match by hitting beautifully executed shots from either end of separate tennis courts." ~ Tim Minchin's commencement speech.
