I know the Dragon Ball games overall aren't the highest regarded aspect of the franchise. But I appreciate Toriyama for adding his influence to them during last decade or so of games. The brain behind Dragon Ball Online, giving fans a good idea of what the Dragon Ball world's future would be after Goku. Leading into Heroes and Xenoverse. Creating the story of Android 21 in FighterZ, and keeping true to his word that he would make her canon in a way with Super Hero. The various tidbits added to Kakarot that makes that RPG feel more complete rather than if it was just what the anime showed. It gives the last decade of games more staying power than they might've had otherwse.

I was 10 when DBZ first aired on toonami. I was 7 when I fist played Chrono Trigger. I watched my cousins play Dragon Quest for as long as I can remember. When I first got into drawing seriously, I tried to imitate his style. His art and storytelling has always been a part of my life… it’s sad to have to let go of that. At least we have a treasure trove of content from him

Started watching DBZ Ocean dub sunday mornings as a kid. Couldn't wait to see the rest on Toonami. Ended up liking the other anime on Toonami too. Years later was a huge anime fan and had a chance to teach in Japan for a few years. Went and met my wife, another anime nerd from the west. Toriyama has indirectly changed my life more than I can ever fully understand. Thank you sir.

Part of Dragon Quest's charm to me was the fun and engaging art style Toriyama brought to it. When I found out that he had done an anime series as well, I begged my older brother to help me find it. This was a time before things were dubbed near as often, or the internet was near as robust. I remember being enchanted at the way he drew things - the attention to detail for what always felt like a fun, simplistic style. And then just falling in love with the absurdity of the settings. When I read articles about the man himself, I felt... invigorated to chase my dreams no matter how bad I thought I'd be at them, because of how much passion he clearly put into following his. When I had my accident and lost my voice, his works became a fun thing for my then-boyfriend and I to bond deeper over during my recovery (which helped me realize I should just marry the lad, a decision I haven't regretted in almost 20 years).
I'm happy that not only was he such a big part of my life, but so many others. That he inspired and warmed the life of people he worked with, and that his works will always have such an important part in animation and manga history. That he will CONTINUE to inspire people into the future, or inspire the people that will inspire other people. And here at the end, I am inspired once again to pick myself up and try one more time, remembering all of the good memories I have of a hero I never got to meet, and hearing of other people's memories.
Thank you, Mr. Toriyama. And thank you, Masako and crew, for putting this video together.

Toriyama showed me a brand new world of entertainment. Coming home to watch Dragon Ball Z while in high school and recording it on my VCR when I couldn’t watch it live made me the man I am today. From Goku, I learned to never give up and that you can accomplish anything if you put in the work. Thank you Toriyama for the gift that you gave to us all. Say high to King Kai for me.

For me, I kept going back to the late game save I have on Blue Dragon, and have had that save for over a decade...
I would load it up, beat the final boss, and reach the post-game scene where you could meet Toripo, the Tori-bot of the Blue Dragon, one last time, but this last time he breaks the fourth wall, and is actually Toriyama writing a message to the fans. He's so humble and praising of others, and hearing him say Toripo makes it all that much better. For anyone who has never played, I recommend the entire trilogy of games, it's almost a spiritual successor of Chrono Trigger, as it has Akira Toriyama, Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu working together again.
But if you just wanna know what Toriyama's message to the player was without playing the game, here's the transcript. RIP Toriyama Sensei, you brought so many people together.
    ~
    Toripo!
This is my real voice. When I visited the developers, they asked me to say "Toripo" so they could record my voice. Noo! Embarrassing! But everyone worked so hard to finish this game. I was really moved!
It reminded me how hard it is to make a game. All those on the staff, and so many hours spent, I loved it when they let me test it out. It was wonderful! They were real pros!
Great things come when you have great people. Didn't you love this game?
I was a bit nervous, worrying, "What if they say my character design isn't good enough?" (Even if you did think so, please don't say it; I really am a sensitive guy.)
Again, thank you all very very much. I will keep on studying more and more.
    One more time! Toripo!
    Akira Toriyama
    ~

Dragon Ball has changed my life. Toriyama’s sense of style and humor has become my own. Funnily enough, ever since he passed, I’ve stopped having existential crisis’ in the middle of the night. It’s still wild to me to think of Toriyama as gone tbh. That the upcoming Sandland and DB games are the last ones we’ll have with his direct influence.
At the same time, he’s had such an impact to the degree that, even if someone’s never seen an episode of Dragonball, they’ve definitely watched something influenced by him at some point. And such an impact means he’s probably always going to have reverberations in media for the rest of time.
So, cheers Toriyama-sensei. Thanks for one of my earliest anime crushes in Trunks. May we finally meet someday on the other side.

To give you an idea of how important this man's work was for us Portuguese people: Dragon Ball made the Sega Saturn, a video game console not very popular around the world, a HUGE hit in Portugal! It was all thanks to one game, Dragon Ball Z: The Legend (Dragon Ball Z: Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu in Japan), that made Portuguese gamers in the 1990's get their hands on a Saturn. And fortunately, me and my cousins were some of those people and we loved that game, and we still do! I really cannot stress how big Dragon Ball is in Portugal, and even if Akira Toriyama never came to Portugal, he is a name that is never going to be forgotten by us Portuguese people!

I first watched original Dragonball back in 1997 when I was 4 years old. I thought this was the best show and story that I watched, and to this day it still holds up

Thank you for this video Masako. It’s good to hear the closest people thoughts about Toriyama and what they thought of him. It seems Toriyama was a very humble and kind man. He brought so much joy to everyone’s lives and he will be remembered forever!

A beautiful and well-spoken collection of tributes were gathered for this video and make it a classic. Toriyama can rest easy knowing how much his legacy has impacted a lot of people and will continue on now that he is no longer with us.

I used to dream of meeting Toriyama-sensei. I'm disheartened that I'll never get the chance.

He gave us a lot of joy and brought a lot of people together.
I'm sure the manga will take a long break. I wonder if the manga will on a Berserk release schedule

There are no words strong enough to describe the legacy of this man. No words great enough to describe his work.
And most of all, no words at all can describe the collective pain of such a loss.

I loved what Kubo sensai wrote, part of me feels that the creator of Bleach is in shock. Though what broke me the most was Masako chan leading a group kamehameha.

I can remember watching Dragonball Z along-side Pokémon as a kid, I was 8, I’m in my 30s now and still a fan of both, Pokémon gave me my “adorable/lethal animals” fix, while Dragonball Z gave me “upbeat protagonist has awesome fights against bad guys to save the universe” (Piccolo was and still is my favourite character)
R.I.P Toriyama-Sensei, you’ve gone to your rightful place alongside Shenron 😢😢😢
Thanks for a teary video Masako, and *please* hug your furbabies all 💙🐱💙

Honestly, it still doesn't feel real. I regret not becoming a fan of his work sooner, but is influence is so widespread that it definitely rubbed off on me in small ways, even just searching up images of his female characters or mechanical art online and thinking "yeah, that's so cool". I will always cherish and respect his work and how many lives he touched because of it.
