Had Toriyama's editor allowed him to continue on with Dr Gero being the main character of the Android saga, not having to create Perfect Cell and the Androids 16 through 18, it could go very different.

I think it's good to continue this tradition despite the recent tragedy, Toriyama always loved a good joke
Yes, unlike Berserk which the IP owners had to scramble to find a new writer to continue the story (of which I will not be reading until there's a few chapters out so I can see if the new guy can polish up to a good quality of work after a few chapters) Dragonball had its successor in Toyotarou established well in advance. We already know he can handle it and we know what he needs to improve on. That being his goofiness needs to go up a bit as he has the serious aspects of the show down, but needed Toriyama's guidance when adding silly dialogue and silly slice of life moments. We are lucky enough to have been ready to move forward without Toriyama though of course we all hoped it would be from his retirement not his passing..
My favorite quote is from DBCember. "Toriyama always writes by the seat of his pants. Sometimes, they just accidentally slip off. Which, if you think about it, is incredibly Toriyama."

Dr. Gero was able to build Androids capable of fighting planet busting aliens and gods in a cave with a box of scraps and teenagers with attitude.

The Android saga was intense as a kid, but as an adult, it was too short. It bugged me years later how we didn’t get more time with Dr. Gero. He should have played a bigger part, even if behind the scenes. This what if was so good as a build up.
Would've been cool if in this version Trunks actually specified Androids 19 and 20 were coming like he did in the manga.
Yes, he says "19 and 20" even in the Japanese original, and despite the various re-releases that line was never changed.
The sad part is 19 & 20 would've been devastating after absorbing all that energy from the Z fighters. Gohan genuinely would've been stuck with a war of attrition against them and actually had *some* hope... until they just absorbed a whole town again or Gero built a reactor.
It would've further sold just how much of a threat 17 & 18 would've been because one of them effortlessly crushed 20, someone we already know is powerful

Honestly, while the idea of understanding Toriyama's original vision for the Android Saga is fascinating, I think this is one of those cases where what we ended up getting was perhaps more satisfying.
I think we often overlook the fact that for a brief period in the Namek and immediate post-Namek sagas, Goku was suddenly psychic.
Also psychic end of sayian.
He never stopped being Psychic he just stopped putting his hands on people’s head.

Never thought I would be listening to a DBZ What-If going on about the thoughts of a man about to undergo a brain transplant procedure but here we are.
I think this is a great idea in memory of Toriyama. He always seemed to love a bit of silliness, and following one of his original ideas is a fitting way to honor him imo.
The Moro saga is basically if the original android saga happened while Resurrection F is basically what would happen is trunks didn’t show up.
No matter what timeline goku finger vs future trunks sword will always be badass

It's nice to see a guess of how the Android Saga would have turned out had Toriyama not been pressured by his editors. I guess that Lapis and Lazuli are still on the run and fully human.

I’ve always wondered about this exact scenario. Toriyama’s editor influenced a lot of the Android saga and if not for him we wouldn’t have 17, 18, or possibly even Cell. It make you ask questions like: how would Gero and 19 be as characters if they were the main threat

Unrelated but I recall that Masako said something along the lines of that he would do a "What if Vegeta was female?' story when he reached around 660k subs, that was like 4-5 yrs ago and I remember thinking...'well guess we won't be seeing that one for a while.' Come on Masako we're almost there!!

May we see a What If Tien, Chiaotsu, Piccolo and Yamcha learned KaioKen? Imagine Tien using the Tri Beam on Cell with the Kaio Ken
Piccolo was there less than a week and didn't cooperate with the training. The other three should have, though.

You know, part of me thinks that Toriyama would of brought out something like Cell or a 3rd android near the end just because he could, a classic Toriyama move like the multiple forms of Buu and Frieza as well as the occasional ass pull he puts in. Like if you agree 👍

I love seeing Toriyama's original plan coming to life. This is exciting!
I've always enjoyed Android 19 and 20's design. I thought they were super weird and such a stark contrast from Freeza, and that made them interesting to me. We learned the hard-way from Freeze about judging a book by its cover, so why should it be any different for these new foes? I also thought it could've been interesting if 16, 17, and 18 did stick around, BUT 20 was still alive and in charge thanks to his energy-draining hands. Kinda like when they introduced Freeza very early on, but while he stayed intimidating, Android 20 became more and more intimidating the longer he was around. Kinda like Spot from Marvel.
I love how this What-If story explains how Gero became an android, was it explained somewhere in guide books on how he turned himself into one or is this just a theory. Either way I look forward to seeing what your other videos will be before people start voting as whoever wins, we'll know we will get a fantastic full series
MasakoX's Trunks voice is absolutely adorable.
I still will always find it funny that, Trunks didn't need to tell goku who his parents were. He could have just said "i'm a sayain from the future, androids are coming in 2 years, here's a heart medicine for a virus you're going to get. I'll see you in 2 years" and leave it at that.
It worked out in the end because Piccolo and Goku didn't say anything about it to anyone in the group but man you're risking a bit too much for something you could have explained without that info

I sure hope the sweet anesthetic was grape flavored, the last thing Dr. Gero tasted as a human. That would give a him a chance to redeem himself when he bonds with his arch-enemy over the shared appreciation of grapes.

Although I prefer what we got in the regular story I'm curious on how this idea will be tackled since the original concept for this story was 19 & 20 were the villains for this story, and Gohan taking Goku's place. 🤔 It's pretty cool getting an insight of Dr. Gero when making the Androids and reason why his brain were put inside of 20. 👍 The only thing I'm hoping for is 16 still been made maybe with a reassigned number of 21, and he is from the other Future Timeline like Cell was. 🙂 Anyways another really good start to this possible new series, and looking forward to the next part soon.

The OG androids were WAYYY creepier than 17 and 18 were. Def better villains.
This is a wonderful start. One thing that's always puzzled me was why Future Trunks never told the Dragon Team what the androids/cyborgs looked like on his first visit.
We know why outside of the story, but a good time traveler would've given a better head's up such as descriptions of the villains (clothing, hair, age, etc).

Random thought: If Goku didn't get the virus from space, then *where* did he get it from and how did he end up getting it anyway even after the timeline greatly shifted?

It's interesting to see where this goes given Gero's ambition to "perfect" humanity. It's hard to guess if it grows as omnicidal as Cell or something more akin to MCU's High Evolutionary.
I do wonder how Lawrence will try to make these two into a genuine threat.

Even though he's no longer with us, I still fully respect and would support Toriyama's Original Vision for the Android Saga for what it could've been if it wasn't for his Editors that Intervene,
But honestly though, I'm actually glad that the Editors had Intervene into the Development Cycle of the Android Saga, if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have gotten fan favorite Characters like Androids 17, 18 and even the Saga's most Iconic Main Villain named Cell.
