What If Turles Turned Good? In this Dragon Ball world, Turles was good and many other young Saiyans find their way outside of the influence of King Vegeta and the early days of Frieza and Dragon Ball Z or even Dragon Ball Super - if Turles was canon and found his place within the world of the Heeters and Frieza whilst other Saiyans were lost after the erasure of Planet Vegeta and get him reunited with his Tree of Might! Seeing Raditz, Nappa and now Turles turn good made me realize that there is a LOT of wasted characters with outstanding potential in Dragonball.

Turles is such a fascinating character because he's the closest thing we got to what if goku was a savage saiyan. Love the idea and the twist at the end. Looking forward to his journey
IKR. For me, it's the twist at the end that keeps me coming back for the same episode. And this one was/is a GREAT one!

I honestly find Turles a fascinating character because he foils some of my favorite traits of Goku, like how Goku's laidback and simple outlook on life is almost inverted with Turles' calm and methodical approach to situations, like he is playing a chess match, but is very flexible when things don't go his way because he is smart enough not to let pride or internal conflicts get in the way to his goals, so he actively avoids or works around certain conflicts. Both contrast their race's known stereotypes.
Goku is reckless enough to charge headfirst into a fight with a strong opponent while Turles is naturally far more cautious.
In a lot of ways, this cunningness and pride is reminiscent more with Raditz than with Vegeta, who has a very elitist view. This opened the door to him meeting strong opponents with an open mind, as they are all potential partners or underlings to him. Similar to Goku, their position as a small group naturally has them fall under both an underdog story, but unlike Goku a rags to riches trope on top of that because Turles is trying to do something about that caste system. Both are known for having great storytelling potential. So like Goku, his unique personality led to his group's formation.
Also like Goku, he has a lot of traveling miles under his belt due to him being a wanderer and this giving him some worldly wisdom and knowledge from his experiences. Which allows him to use taboo stuff like the Tree of Might which rightfully belongs to the Gods. Honestly, a potential Demonic route to contrast Goku and Vegeta God forms fits Turles style of pure evil like a glove.
His complicated relationship with the Saiyans is also an interesting aspect to explore because many Dragon Ball characters are simple by design, but Turles is an outlier. He respects his fellow Saiyans, but he hates the elitist views that refuse to acknowledge his gifts and talents to the point of deserting them and is quick to betrayal in general.
So, he's also a classic usurper type of villainous character due to his foresight and grudges but has never been used in one of these stories to its fullest extent. Someone who gains power sneakily and takes everything for himself with power plays that throw everything out of order really pushes a plot forward. (In some ways he's like fan-favorite One PIece character Law)
In other words, his character naturally challenges a lot of the cast members in one way or another, regardless of their alignment. Good, Bad, Divine, Demonic. They all got something interesting to say about Turles and one can cherry-pick these potential avenues to give him an interesting journey for a long serialization story like Dragon Ball.
If I were to try to fit Turles into cannon, I'd establish that Bardock had a twin brother, who had a son, making Turles Goku's cousin. Then tweak his design a bit so he doesn't look exactly like Goku, but similar. Just to explain why they look alike at all.
That would be perfect
I thought this would be saved for an April Fools What If, considering it has to do with another movie-exclusive villain like Broly once was. Then I thought “If a good Broly became canon shortly after Masako started a story about it, maybe there’s a chance Turles will be canon as well”, which is why I’m hyped for this!

Funnily enough, all of Turles's Crusher Corps. have backstories, and the Tree of Might is a tree of the gods. So there's plenty of material to expand on, even if the context changes. I'd like to see how the Heeters might supply Turles with soldiers and supplies, or witness expeditions to the realm of the gods in one way or another.

@@tjwizzy the difference in what TheOneEyedOne suggested is that in salad’s one, saiyans are innately good like U6 saiyans in canon, but TheOneEyedOne suggests they are exactly as they are in the canon but(with the exception of super Broly and Vegeta, instead of just dying and never showing up again they end up turning and joining goku and them somehow becoming good

@@certifieddumbass2374 I know, it just feels shoehorned in somewhat still. As a way to overexplain why his hair looks like Gokus. I feel like saiyans can have similar hair without it having to be specifically altered.
Also, and this is just my personal interpretation, Saiyan hair does grow, just to a very specific point. Otherwise it would get very thin as they aged...but that's more a personal thing XD
The What If Evil Goku story were there is a happy ending.
Dang, Masako, never thought I'd see the day. You're giving Turles a go, one of the most underrated characters, the original Black Mirror Goku. Besides Radditz, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, even Android 13 is having his 15 minutes of fame, pun not intended. I hope Tenshinhan unlocks his potential, color theory and third eye goes hand in hand. He's not an alien, he is the OG ascended human, but his sins locked the eye... I hope you give him a good treatment some day too.

Every what if in each universe is different no matter what, even a slight difference, and that's the beauty of it
I love how as time goes by you’ve been willing to tackle more and more outlandish concepts but by sticking to the Toriyama style. It all goes to show that execution is everything. I’d be curious to see What Ifs in the future that implore multiple scenarios. Like a What if Raditz and Nappa Turned good? I’m just imagining the butterfly effect from ideas like that.

Forcing this to adhere to the typical DBZ model feels wrong. At this point, Turles is nearly an all new character. While the Heeters are never the greatest, this story has much more potential than usual.

This was a good turles what if that was made from scratch. I almost forgot about him due to Goku black arc. I see him as the most clever out of the saiyans characters and using his skills to get out jams. Can’t wait for another episode

I like to headcanon that Turles is Goku’s long lost half brother, where Bardock had some sort of falling out with a past partner years ago without knowing he had a son with them and later hit it on with Gine to have Raditz and Goku. That could explain why Turles looked so much like Goku but not entirely

Well now i'm craving to see a what if lord slug turned good or some abril fools type of what if like if appule and rasberry turned good? But i really want to see the slug what if more
I'm thinking a cool way to add Turles to canon would have him heading a Lost Saiyan colony.
Maybe even a mixed colony of Saiyans and other Races (To explain his minions.).
Also a way to slowly bring Saiyans back to Universe 7.
Am Glad There making Turles there own character instead of making the movie canon.
At some point, I kinda wanna see these animated, or at least in comic form. Especially this one, since I love Tulece ever since I saw him in the movie y’all made on him and some of the games. He’s awesome, no matter what anyone says!
I always saw Turles as a Saiyan that actually follows his Saiyan code.
Vegeta fleed when he was outmatched and Raditz begged for his life when in trouble.
Meanwhile, Turles actually gave Goku the chance to give up and let him live, but he never escaped or fleed a fight. Also, he wanted to reform the Saiyans, so that's why he offers both Goku and Gohan to join him, saying that since they are Saiyans they should be friends

Hey Masako! While binging DBZ abridged for the zillionth time, I realised we could do a "what if Gohan turned bad" because of his feelings for Goku (coz of Goku's negligence) just like in DBZ abridged.

Or Raditz after seeing that Goku is a weakling who refuses to join him takes Gohan into space to raise him as a true saiyan, in the process I can see that some of the three saiyans who work for Frizer become less evil a little at the same time that Gohan turns evil.

I like this version of Terles. I’m a fan of him being Goku’s brother, but I recognised you were never going to go down that route with your take, and I was able to enjoy this episode for what it was. Plus I appreciated the way you tied him to Bardock.
I also enjoyed seeing the Heaters in a what if. I did not expect to see them show up so soon.

Imagine it turns out the girl who mocked him was still alive, and instead of Turles begging HER for forgiveness, she begs HIM for forgiveness, only for him to treat her like scum.
Since this is What If Turles Turned Good, Turles won't treat Russel like scum and might give her another chance... He will just Never Live It Down on Russel which would haunt her for the rest of her life as she was responsible of bringing the young Saiyans under her leadership to their deaths on Planet Vegeta blown up by Frieza.
